Well ELE sent me one of their EDF units for testing. I didn't pay for the setup, but I did pay for shipping. Know that I sell ele products however I do not sell the EDF setups.
Upon opening the package I noticed a great similarity to the GWS EDF55 fan. I anticipated good results but judging by the specs provided by ELE I was skeptical to yield decent thrust due to the High temps reported by ELE.

For my testing I used the following equipment:
Dynam40A ESC
Electricpower 20C 2200 11.1V lipo
Here is what I got on a fresh pack:
38A
400w but quickly leveled to 350-360W
thrust was around 16-18oz but may have been more as it is hard to measure
I am impressed with the thrust, but the amp draw is a little much :p

Here are some pics of the motor disassembled. Notice the shaft: it is 3mm and is turned down to ~2.3mm near the end for the impeller.
Also the stator is permanently attached to the edf housing

did you measure rpm?
because for the power those numbers are about the same as the gws 55.
however, the gws 55 does it at fairly low rpm.
if you are using a 5300 kv motor then on 4s that thing must be screaming.
please post more specs.

I'll get the rpm....the fan is almost identical to the gws EDF55

Welll I measured the RPM on a fresh pack and got ~35000...it was bouncing a little, but that is at the low end.

Thanks for testing! You can shine a flashlight from the otherside and your tach readings should be more consistant and accurate.
Do the rotor blades rub on the shroud at these rpms?
The gws55 rubs at 1/2 of that!

They don't rub at all..there is about 1/16" gap or so between the fan blades and the housing....I was a little disappointed with that, because I know the closer the better.
The good thing about the impeller is it seems to be a pretty sturdy composite, and it is more rigid than the gws EDF55 impeller.

BTW thanks for the tip about the flashlight... I'll get a reading using your tip a little later today.

guys, just cut a small strip of reflective tape and tape it to the hub and point the tacho at that.
gets very accurate results.

I don't have any reflective tape but I got a flashlight!;)
No rub is good news! The GWS rotors need better reinforcement under the hub. This fan should be able to tolerate higher power levels.

I didn't retest the rpm yet, but I did get the fan totally apart.
The fan housing has a ~20mm accepter which might be usefull for a different motor ;)

btw...there isn't anything holding the motor in the housing
