After much delay, I finally started building my MiniWave, designed by Rich Uravitch. I got the plans from Model Airplane News, http://www.rcstore.com/rs/general/d...0505a&catego=PL (http://www.rcstore.com/rs/general/detail.asp?catnum=fsp0505a&catego=PL) the laser cut parts pak from Hobby Hangar, http://www.hobbyhangar.com/test/new.htm and ordered the plastic parts from Rich, http://www.richuravitch.com/newprod.htm (OK, I forgot to order the plastic, but I will do it tomorrow!!!)
I started on the fuselage tonight, didn't remember to start taking pictures until I had the two sides glued together. It is a simple box construction, not much to detail.
I am planning on using an Astro 40 3-Turn motor in the Midi fan, but can't decide on a 5S2P 4000 or a 6S3P 6000 TP Prolite pack. I would love to run the 6S3P pack (should be close to 1kw!), but the 5S2P is 14oz lighter!!! I am open to suggestions, this is my first large EDF.
I going to use HiTec HS-81 servos. Will they be strong enough?
Here are a couple of pics...

I would say medium, but sure a lot better than cutting it out by hand!

Hi
I thought I might let you know the HiTec MG-81 is the same but with metal gears.
Check with http://kress-jets.com/Outrunnerfans.htm he has developed out runner fans that don't use the power that astro 40 draws (email him).
I'm just finishing a Street Machine 48" wing span ( all over the kitchen table ) I'm using MG-81's in it.
I fly on a dirt field and am checking on retracts for my L-39 cause the bottom of my other jets look like they have flak damage. By reducing the fan and battery weight I hope to be able to use retracts.
Rich
P.S. Keep us informed how things are going I got 2 more jets in the box and if I can make em fly better that means they will land easy-er

Rich,
The Kress fan look cool, I don't know about an outrunner in a fan, I am wanting around 35,000 rpm. I know the midifan is good for 1200-1400 watts, that is my goal.
Got a little more done last night, forward bottom fuselage sheet and top hatch...
Next cut servos opens for ruddervators and finish sheeting, then...onto the wing!

Well, due to many factors (building too late a night, ill fitting parts and my temper), I now have a nice pile of kindling instead of a right wing!
I hope to have some time in a couple of weeks to cut some new parts and try again!

That's the art of the young (the old bull in the china shop syndrom ), need to have a discussion about fans, our field has several Helli pilots and they sometimes talk about overspeeding the blades, fans have the same problems I have an early 90's fan that cannot go over 18K without stalling.
Go to Ezone and read all the articles you can find written by Chris True, I've talked to Chris several times and he knows his stuff. Rember there is a ballance in fans, how many cubic feet of air can you move and how fast can you do it.

Here's a pointer to fan units that can get to the RPM's you want (35000 to 44000 RPM's).
Let me know what you think.

Update!
Finally flew my Rich Uravitch Miniwave tonight! It flies great! AUW is 5 1/2lbs.
Here is my setup
Kontronik Fun 600-17
Castle Creations Phoenix-80
Thunder Power 6S2P 4200 Prolite
Hitec HS-81 on aileron and steering
Hitec HS-85 on ruddervators
This setup pulls 1150watts @ 52amps!!!
A picture...
Fun Jet!

Nice job Brian! Glad to hear that all went well. I saw the prototype in Toledo year before last and thought that a smaller version for a mini-fan would be cool. I'd call it the microwave!
