reinforced inside with strips of ply and 1/8" spuce ribbing from bottom plate to battery tray. Handmade aluminium gear. Just replaced the wheels yeasterday with Dubros 1 1/2" mini lite wheels. Those stock wheels were so soft, they'd flatten out just by setting on the floor for a short time.

my setup
eflite 400 brushless
Himax gearbox 64t/12t 5.33:1
11x7 or 11x4.7 APC prop
CC Phoenix 25 ESC
hitec 555 RX
Futaba 3707 servos
2100 3 cell thunderpower or 1250 15c 3 cell kokam

Looks like you did a good job. I had bought aluminum replacement gear from TnT. I need to get those dubro tires mine are wearing down. Have you you had any problems with the motor and gearbox. I had the windings come loose running 6.6:1 12x6 prop (3 min of flight time), sent it in, Maxx products replaced it, ran a 11x7 prop this time and got the same result, gears all stripped too. Maybe I just keep getting bad motors. When I bought it that was the motor and prop recomended (it was stated that it will handle a 12x8 at 11.1v) but I told that to some people at the LHS in town and they say the motor won't handle it.
I tend to agree. What do you think

Yeah, I had problem with my gearbox. First strarted running with the 6.6:1 and 12x6. Stripped that within a day. switched to the 5.33:1 and 11x7 prop. Stripped that in a day. Then what I did was I replaced the shaft with one from a GWS gearbox and used my GWS 64 tooth gear. That seems to be holding up rather well. So I just picked up some spare 64 tooth GWS gears. The motor itself seems to be fine. It's the EFlite 400, 4200K brushless. If it goes, I'll probably replace with an outrunner.

I'll see if I can make that work when my engine comes back, cool idea though. I haven't seen that idea used.
Thanks,
Mark

Don't really want to knock your U.C. Did a good job, but there is no give or spring to it. Would be better to run the wire up to the fuse, across the fuse where the bolts are, and down the other side. Where the wire goes past the bolts, make a couple of tin brackets go around the wire and attach to the bolts. Mine still has the carbon fibre on it but don;t expect it to last long. Will make one like yours with the wire change. Have fun.

Actually, there is slack in the cross wires, just less than 1/4". The bends on the end allow them to sit loosely for some give, yet are secure. Eventually I may even use thinner wire, but this is what I had in the shop at the time.

I had run a wire across on the carbon LG with a thin piece of wire and 2 rubber servo grommets to give it some flex. It worked well till the carbon split at the axle.

I have been fixing my gear all weekend. I just ordered an aluminum set! I beefed up mine like Andy Steere's see: http://astro.umsystem.edu/andy/rc/mf/build/
The plate held up but the stock gear is trash!!!
It doesn't take much of a hit to push the motor mount beam right back into the fusalage. On my #3 gear-box. The E-Flite Edge seems to have fixed this problem too.
