I tired raising the wind on FMS and even at 2 m/s, it blew my plane across the field. Any ideas?Which plane? 2 m/s is around 4.5 mph, and that will blow a Slow Stick or other parkflyer. Try 1 m/s, or even less (like 0.5, it will take real numbers).

p.s. I just tried FMS for the first time over the weekend, not bad. I guess the wind is a new feature. I like that they have gusts, too; the wind where I am tends to be gusty, even when it is low...

here are a few data points for reference...

0.45 m/s = 1.00 mph
0.50 m/s = 1.12 mph
0.90 m/s = 2.00 mph
1.00 m/s = 2.23 mph
1.34 m/s = 3.00 mph
1.50 m/s = 3.35 mph
1.79 m/s = 4.00 mph
2.00 m/s = 4.47 mph
2.24 m/s = 5.00 mph

One tool to help with this is here: http://www.calculateme.com/Speed/index.htm

Watch out on the gusts. They are added to the regular wind number. So a gust of .5 m/s added to a 2.0 m/s wind speed makes the combined wind with a full gust 2.5 m/s. Some combinations will flip the airplane right over even when it is on the ground.

Is this only in Alpha 8.5? I couldn't find any wind settings in beta version 7...

Edit... Never mind. I found that Alpha 8.5 has these setting right under thermals. I now have tuned my (cough) son's J-3 Cub's .par file and wind settings to get it reasonably close to what we have.

Now if I can only find a good F4U model to spruce up...

I've seen quite a few over the years.

Try doing a search at http://www.rc-sim.de in the file download area.

Also, Yoshio Nakakita has a nice red F4U on his download page which is loaded with warbirds.
