This is a place for people to come to talk about the Miss Hydro 1.5. A place were my customers can come to share their experiences and tips with each other and with other RC'ers here on WattFlyer.com.

A little about me to kick it off http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Nice to meet you. I would like to introduce myself.

My name is Jason. I make the Miss Hydro 1.5. I love RC and how technology is advancing electrics so far, so fast. I like to build from scratch, from kits and enjoy finding the newest stuff to get involved in.

I spend 18 solid hours a day on average answering emails for customers, running my new retail store GITaHobby, building my site, building Miss Hydro 1.5's, QC’ing, and preparing orders. I really care about my work and consider each one a work of art.

My goal is to fill the need for personal attention to new RC'ers, as well as have a broad range of products for the experienced RC’er all at the lowest prices. I enjoy sharing my knowledge to help others.

http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif Something funny: I had two people from china tell me I should get some sleep as I instant massaged with them through TWO of their entire work days and did not move form my PC while they went home, went out to dinner and went to sleep! LOL I got 2 hours of sleep between those two days.

Please feel free to ask me anything, check out my other vids on YouTube and look over my site http://GITaHobby.com (http://gitahobby.com/). I encourage comments and suggestions and value everyone’s opinions. Take care and I hope to chat with you soon!

P.S. Here are some of the specifics of the New Miss Hydro 1.5!

I like your attitude and style. I wish you tons of success.
I have the china rip off.
The one with the "RCV" stickers as used as comparison in your "mod. thread" on your site.Unfortunately I bought on impulse and although the weather hasn't aloud me a chance out , I already wish I had bought yours. ( I was pointed to your site by CHELLIE)
The kit you sell.....is it the "1.5"? (Not the "RTF" the ±30buck one)

When wanting to talk to talk about getting my current one going would you prefer I not do that in this thread???

Hi, thank you! :) CHELLIE is very nice and very knowledgeable.

I personally make, named and now sell the Miss Hydro 1.5. I did all the product research and parts sourcing to bring her together to be the best RTF production model in the world. Which it turns out is what I expected from my FIRST purchase of a flying hydro. So I saw a need and I thought - I am going to take a few months to learn all I can about all the dynamics of the concept. The result is the Miss Hydro 1.5

I would like to take the time to clarify and introduce my company name as I use its variations all the time for different applications:
Long form - Genuine Innovation Technologies
Acronyms - GIT or GITech
Site name - GITaHobby.com
Store name - GIT a Hobby

Sure, you can talk about all flying hydros here. I will help anyone with any hydro they may have. Just be sure to always be clear in each post which one you are referring to.

I bought an "RCV" and 3 others from ebay at first plus the SL as well in my search for the best flying hydro base to start from.

Nice to meet you!
Jay

With a couple of mod's I'd like to learn with this "RCV" model and then I will certainly be buying your kit version (thanx to chellie for talking you into selling it).
CG....I was alarmed to read that the CG is INFRONT of the front support.
Mine is quite alot back from there. should I correct this before trying to fly it ? Consider your advice "pre-sales talk" L.O.L

Yep, move your CG. Have you heard of pourposing? (can somone help me with that spelling?) It is an effect of the COG being too far back and nothing flies good under this condition. Especially a flying hydro as it only has one "wing" that has to do it all.

My CG is still a little back from the CF Tube support as well. About 1/4 inch. i am working on how to move the CG up even more organically by changing the design even more. In fact I have figgured it out and all new orders will have this new design (only one left of current stock that has not been sold and will GIT the new design until I replenish my stock). I am placing a new order of parts to fill my stock and integrate the new design. These ones will be ready in a week or two.

I would start out with your "RCV" (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/images.asp?globalTrigger=view&categoryID={DB383D1A-09EA-4789-91E7-5FBE9A5CAD07}&imageID={17D76374-14E5-493D-8A57-640F1FD4F601}) by repacing the metal control links with Carbon Fiber rods. Then work on moving the motor out toward the front as far as posible. You will likely need to GIT/make a new mount pole for your motor to GIT it out that far. You could use my motor mount (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/replacement-motor-mount.asp) and a custom cut 8mm CF tube to do this. If this doesn't move the COG enough then relocate the battery further toward the front. You could try to invent a way to mount the battery under the tip of the nose like in my mod pics for my/the old Miss Hydroplane (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/images.asp?globalTrigger=view&categoryID={DB383D1A-09EA-4789-91E7-5FBE9A5CAD07}&imageID={20C2AA97-5FFE-4895-88F8-E41CDF797AE8})in my image gallery on my site. You know what?! She is still in one piece and flies like a charm after 5-6 months!!!

Tape is your friend. Try to stay away from glue as it fixes a break but adds weight with no additional strength. TTYL Jay

I will start on the CG first. (that "RCV" of yours has more carbon than an F1 car l.o.l.) I have heard conflicting reports regarding motor placement. Some say it should be as close to the CG as you can get it...something about improved handling????? Don't ask me I wouldn't have a clue.
I might try making a small tray under the "fuse./nose" so that the batt. lies half under and half above board and also forward to find CG.
Something I omitted to mention is that I live in the Netherlands. That's probably just as well or I'd have toooooo many toy's and probably loose my wife in the process.
Buy the way , anyone have FMS and the hydroflyer??
I'm using an analog controller configured like a 4channel.
I find the hydro REAL easy to fly. loops, rolls,hover....I don't know if there is anymore for me to learn on the sim.
I've practised with 4m/s wind with 6m/s gusts and I can keep it alive and kind of land (until a gust......).
My question is....is it even CLOSE to the real thing???
Cause then I'm excited for the wind to stop blowing.:)

Hi wannafly! I know. soooo much CF rienforcement on my "RCV". It still broke every time I crashed it. Which was every time I flew it. LOL. I think the Depron used on the "RCV" was very brittle/thin skinned.

Sounds good for moving the batt and COG. Are you going to raplace the metal control links on the "RCV" with 1.5mm CF rod. (I have 100 meters of 1.5mm CF rod on order!) You would save the weight of 5 pieces of metal in the tail! Also, you could remove the 4 long metal screws that hold the control horns to the Depron for the connection between the upper and lower elevons. Then just glue those control horns in place. Also you could considder replacing them with the Micro Pin type I have on my site (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/micro-pin-control-horn.asp). They are virtually weightless.

I have FMS. It is what I include with my Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp). That is alot of wind in FMS!!! I think the WaterFlyer beta 7 .zip (http://gunnerson.homestead.com/files/waterflyer7.zip) is more like real life. The WaterFlyer alpha 8 .zip (http://gunnerson.homestead.com/files/waterflyer.zip) flies like it is on rails and is not really realistic. (click on them to download and save and unzip it to your "Models" folder in you "FMS" file folder.) Hey, try the AlleyCat alpha 8 .zip (http://gunnerson.homestead.com/files/alleycat.zip). Fun for going very fast!

For those of you who would like to try it before you GIT it - Here is FMS for your downloading pleasure: FMS 2.0 a8.5 (http://www.n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/alpha/fms2alpha85.exe)

woah, that's big!!! LOL

Yes , I agree about the diff. models.
I'm using waterflyer7. Infact I have been sifting through ALL the planes to find the VERY HARDEST to fly in preperation for the real thing.
Yeah that's serious wind l.o.l , it seems to gain a life of it's own and God has a buddy box and is having a good laugh. l.o.l.
P.S. On the "FMS site they recommend the version before/prior to the XP version....BUT ..only the latest version has the adjustable wind and gusts for realizm.
Hey chellie , you're "spot on"!
The toy's are cheaper than the wife and one can play with them WHENEVER you WANT without them getting headaches.L.O.L.
Thanx for the support guy's.

Hi Wannafly, I was having Fun with my HydroFoam at the Rose Bowl Wensday, doing touch & goes, flying it around, buzzing it around on the ground, Then I got it a little to far away from me, it was hard to see, they are small, and i was going to fly it back to myself, lost orentation and crashed taking it off, broke another prop, darn :) my last one :) well I ordered some more props from GITech, and learned a valuable lession, dont fly to far away from yourself, these things are small and hard to see the farther they are away from you, after you learn to fly these hydros,
you might want to upgrade to the 1.5 hydro that GITech has, since you already have the electronics, the kit is only $35.00 US and the 2409-12 High Performance motor is only $14.99 US, last time i checked, this motor and a 7x6 prop has a pitch speed of 67 MPH, my hydro does about 60 MPH + or - , I cant fly it at full throttle, it to fast for me yet, and it will go vertical, I have a new 1.5 hydro kit that I just ordered from GITech with some more props :) my old hydro is ready for retirement, It served me well, it taught me how to fly hydros , my next one will have a lot of yellow and red color on it so I can see it better, :) take care, and Have Fun, Chellie

Good day gents , Hi CHELLIE , I'm really jealous . Hell , I'll be glad to get it to fly that far l.o.l.! Now you have an excuse to start on the new one.
The wind has been blowing at 20-30mph for the last 3weeks here in holland so I haven't even dared try it. I have stood at the window a hundred times and told the weather what I think of it....!
Do all flyers/pilots do that? I bet.
Yes , color , I have also been thinking about making the top and bottom 2 distinctly diff. colors so you know which way it's rolling or pitching at distance........aaaaaaaah , darn , all I do is talk about it...common man , may the weather gods be with me for just ONE DAY! l.o.l. today might have been OK but...I WASN'T FREEEEE!!!!!
The "1.5" is definately the best looking hydro by far .I'm very keen to get one NOW but I have to at¨least reck this one a couple of times otherwise I might aswell order 2 , no... 3. l.o.l.
Anyone have any thoughts on the floats?
Are the depron better than polys. ones?
The poly have a definate weak point in the curve....easy to repair though.

P.S Talking of small.
I found a video on the net somwhere (I so wish I knew where) of a hydro in Check. or poland or....
It was HUGE. The guy holding it with it's tail on the ground had the tip of the floats at his CHEST.
I'd say it was roughly 1.5meters long.
And it flew like a charm.

Hi everyone! :)

WOW!!! Interest is growing! This is great! I had 26 emails to answer tonight! I just got my phone at the store today and will have dial up for now that I will install tomorow! Up till now I have been transporting my PC to and from work and doing my internet work when I GIT home at 11:00 or later and doing 13+ hours a day at my store plus a 30 min drive each way! For the first time I did not transport my PC home last night as I had my fience open the store this morning so I could do some much needed running around. It is very rapidly becoming time to hire empoyees!!! LOL! (%

Here is my update I just posted to my home page at GITaHobby.com (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/default.asp) :

(12/15/06) Woah! 7 orders were placed today and yesterday. The one left in stock sold at my store today, so the 6 orders that were placed online yesterday and today will be the first 6 in the shipment of parts for 10 that is on it's way! Wow! Cool, if you Order yours soon (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp)to get one of the 4 left coming in the next shipment of supplies I will have the funds to place another order sooner. Each one is built to order so please allow 2-4 additional days after I receive the parts to build and ship based on current volume. I just got my phone line today and will GIT internet access at my store tomorrow so I will be able to update my site immedeatly from now on! Thank you everyone and I appoligize for any inconvenience! Email or call if you have any questions!

I am adding my store phone # to my site now in the Contact Us (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/contactUs.asp) link.

I have to GIT up early to setup for a day of fun for kids at a "brunch with santa" tomorrow were over 80 kids will eat a meal with santa right outside my store in the biggest open floor space in the mall. I am setting up a race track for cars, a battle tank area, and a small pool for little boats out in the mall area next to santa to be a part of the event! It is an event that parents had to buy tickest for their kids to attend. The mall invited me to participate! Very cool! I can't wait! :D

Thank you! I love it! 13 hours a day is not nearly enough time to spend "playing" at my store. Even building Miss Hydro 1.5's (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp)is "playing" to me! LOL! I used to do construction so it is nice to do my hobby/passion for a living.

The Brunch with Santa was a sucess! I set up a little track outside my store for the kids to race on. I had up to 5 cars going at the same time = 3 toy cars I was selling, one of my Xmod Evolution 4x4 trucks (w/the drop kit and set on low speed), and my ProPulse Mini-T! It was a riot when I had the Mini-T in the mix! Everyone got a kick over it driving over the "toy" cars! I sold 80-85% of my entire inventory yesterday. The parents walked in and bought everything! WOW , santa's being good to you this year , congrats on the sales.
Put your catalogue in each gap on your shelves and let them order with your sincere apologetic explanation.........???
I bought a silverlit xplane today at a fleamarket (broke in 2 fuselage)
Came home charged the batt. while glueing it . Plugged it all together and it all seemed to work so I drove out to a field and through it into the air.
They say the ribbon should be max 45°.......it was hovering around 80-85°..hehehe...I've never flown and I was so pi..... at this weather that I couldn't care .(My wife says this is one bug that has bitten me at the wrong time of year).
Anyway , it was like FMS 4m/s and 6 or 7m/s gusts. I wish I had a cam there......THROW 1missisipi 2misses..3.....oh aaah BANG.
BIG SMILE haha.
no damage , plug prop back on and....THROW......I managed to keep it up there till it's 300mah's where drained (±2minutes)
and landed only half the field away from myself l.o.l.
YEEEHA I've had a great sunday.
I hope you all had a great weekend too.

I will keep you updated. :)

That's great wannafly! How much did you GIT it for?

I flew my Tribute 3D for a demo for a customer today in the parking lot in about 15mph winds. It flew great! I coud even hang it on the prop while the wind moved it along! This is good for me! I have just about 2 hours of flight time on it. So much fun!

Time to put up the Christmas tree!

Thank you for the compliment! Merry Christmas everyone!

Hi all , I went flying with the hydro...yeeehaaa. YES , it's VERY broken now.
Not bad though , trims all out couldn't get it to stay up for long.
Broke the motor mount at the "ESC box" , rudder ripped out of the deck. My wife thinks I went to visit a girlfriend and broke it by hand on the way home. She says "Why are you smiling like youve just had sex if the thing is in pieces?" L.O.L.

GITech , hi , I paid 20Eu for it. All the bombs odds and ends where still sealed in there original packets. I think it was broken on it's maiden flight and then stuck back in the box.I took it out yesterday with the hydro and had about 5-6min of perfect flight. Granted it's badly underpowered and I just cruised around at about 20-30ft. So as not to kill the battery trying to gain altitude. Quite relaxing.Stayed within a soccer field and landed when the batt. was done. perfect.
Some ??regarding MISS HYDRO 1.5 .
The RX/TX set you sell with the RTF , is it dual rate?
Is it possible to buy loose bits and peices like a fuse./cockpit or deck , maybe rudder etc?
Once I purchase the ARTF kit from you I reckon these are parts that will need replacing.
I could cut my own but it would be handy to just buy a pile of reserve bits.

Yes indeed. I have already stuck it back together.
People say "no way, blah blah blah...start with something simple" . Well , as you say you learned with it. I am positive I can do the same.
I am beginning to think that I should just start with the MISS HYDRO 1.5 kit , stuff my 3rd rate elec's. in it and at least (as per your testamonial) I'll have something that flies PROPERLY and I can be sure it's ME and not the equipment.

Yes I've seen it. It's really amazing. I certainly respect your abalities. How does it compare on the difficulty scale to the hydro? (flight)
I wish I could recover all the cash I've spent on nitro and elec. cars and trucks and use it on this awsome hobby. My LHS has 100cm x 80cm x 5cm (LxBxH) sheets off EPP for 25euro. Unfortunately he doesn't have any smaller but I was thinking of making the cockpit out of it. Any thoughts??
Also maybe glueing it together to make a "fatter" block then shapeing floats.Once the outer shape is done they could be hollowed out for the weight.
P.S. GITech you where spot on about the quality of the depron on the "RCV".
I bought some quality grade stuff and all I can say is that the RCV depron really is "meat tray" stuff. Weak, soft, plyable. I'm gonna be cutting me some spares:)
Maybe some ARTF's that I can take to the feild and just crunch them up till I get it...hehe
can't wait for my wife to read this.

Hi Wannafly, sell your rc cars, etc on E Bay, that stuff sells fast, and you can recover a lot of what you spent, The pusher jet is really easy to fly, if you fly rc airplanes already, you will not have any problem flying this jet,

Also how come there is no picture of yourself in the members gallery, its always nice to see a face to a name:o

If you need any foam for a canopy or float, let me know, I have a bunch of it here, private message me with your address and i will send you some, no problem.

Regards:)

The ESC is disconected because - pluging it in is how you turn it on.

It must be disconected right away after every flight so you do not over-discharge the battery!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over-discharge is ONE shure way to destroy a Lipo Battery!!!!!!!!

Make shure you disconect it right away when you are done flying and charge it right away even if you are not going to use it again right away.

Also, in your email you mentioned somthing about the "engine rod". You must mean the new motor saver?! I like to call it the "marshmallow". Yes, it is suposed to be flexable.

Let me know if you have any more questions!!! ;)

Thank you Jay, Its a Lot of fun, The cats are a little hard to hand launch, because you have to leave the motor off, throw the cat and then GIT on the throttle and controls, got to be Quick, I hand lanched it the other day, and was not quick enough on the controls, and it hit the ground, broke the nose off, its got a new noise now :) I FIXED THAT :) it now has a steerable tricycle landing gear, only weighs 1 1/2 oz more, and I dont even feel it when flying it, the reason you have to leave the motor off when hand launching it , is because the prop is close to your hands and you could get cut with the prop, problem solved :)
Hi Wannafly, where have you been hidding at :) been flying your hydro i bet :) the weather here has been great, Saturday & Sunday were in the high 70 and low 80s bright and clear, sunny, great flying weather, and i took advantage of it, Take care Everyone, and have fun, Chellie

Thank you, word of mouth is the best advertisement!!!

Hi Jay, Hi Pam, Hi Terrence :D Well my hydro arrived today, Yippie :D
it looks very good, I like the shock proof motor mount, interesting, Jay I hope you allow Pam and Terrence to get on Wattflyers so we can chat with them from time to time  I sent a care package of rc goodies to Lafayette High School, in New York for their new r/c club, and a letter of encouragement for the students there, are you familiar with that high school ? just wondering if you were close to the school, send me a picture and info,on the biplane that you had, that should give me some ideas on how to set up my plane, I bought a outrunner motor on e bay, but i think it might be a little to big for the bi plane, its a 3648 here is some info on it, tell me what you think, I was thinking of using it or a 2409-12 either one with a 1800 mah 11.1 v lipo and a 30 amp ESC. I dont have a watt metter at this time, I do have a amp prob, that helps, Take care and have fun, Chellie.

Did you GIT your kit and extras yet?

Ask here how to make your motor saver with the "marshmallow":)

Thanks for the backup!!!!!!

Happy New Year!!!!!!!:D

Hi Jay. Ok how do you make up this motor mount, I almost took the white cushion motor mount and put a stick in it, to toast it, I wanted some grand crackers and Hersheys Chocolate to make somemores with :D

LOL:D :D :D It is a cool little thing isn't it?! I will add it to my inventory soon so everyone can GIT one! :D

Take a look at Dishjuarez pics up the page here for how it should look. I use a razor blade to rough up the aluminum motor mount and the plastic motor mount. I cut the marshmallow down to about 3/16th and make a hole in it to make room for the little bit of motor shaft that sticks out of the back of the motor. Then I use super glue to secure the three pieces together (plastic-marshmallow-aluminum) and then heat shrink it all together!

This is all there is to my new invention! A motor saver motor mount! Cool huh? The material it is made out of is cool huh? You can GIT 2-3 uses out of one marshmallow!

You can use it to add a custom thrust angle as well by cutting it at an angle if there is a need for that.

And you can fix it in the field if you hit it hard and deform the heat shrink. Just heat it up and hold it streight till it cools down and solidifies again.

Also, the heat from the motor can heat up the heat shrink making it hold more during use, and it can be like a fuse to let you know you are running a motor too hot by actually melting the heat shrink and marshmallow. I have not had this happen yet but I imagine that it could!

It has MANY uses! Dont'cha think?!

Tell me how it works out for you!

I am going to answer a few emails for the next half hour or so...I will be back....:D ;)

Hi, pam is not into RC but I can ask her to post so you can chat!!! (%

Terrence does not have a PC yet!!! I will have him post when my internet works at the store worth a crap. It is wireless and disconnects every 5 minutes!!! And is slowwwwwww!!!

I read your letter of encouragement and I will be contacting them myself too! I live only about 5 miles from Lafayette High School! My store is like 25 miles from my house though and I can see it would be next to imposible for these kids to make it to my store. I am going to send them a care package as well though!!!! I will send them the parts for a Hydro to build one from kit including all the electronics! I think they will like that!

The motor you posted a pic of seems a little out of whack! 1000 watts??? It can only handle 28 amps!!! That's only 310.8 watts!!! And only that from a motor that wieghs a wooping 168 grams!!?? But it has a pull of 1350grams (~57oz)??? I don't see how this all adds up!? And on a 15x10 prop? That's a awfully large prop for a 300 watt motor!? I don't know what to think about these numbers!!!?

What do you think? What is your opinion on this now that I pointed these things out?

:)

Hi man,

The Transmitter does have an alarm that lets you know the transmitter is low on batteries.

It beeps in 1 second intervals at first. Then once the voltage is very low it beeps in 1/2 second intervals!!! Two stages...I think it is very nice and a little anoying.;) :D

If you meant that you wish that the Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) would let you know when it is low on batteries...it does!!! It will drop the power output to about 70% so you can tell when it is low and still land it safely or GIT it back to shore if it is way out in the water!

Cool Huh?

Have you flown it or used the FMS simulator yet? Fly in the SIM first! It is very different than your Storm Launcher!!!

The need for unpluging it is just the way it is done with ALL Lipo and brushless motor setups. A switch that could handle the power would be heavy and you need to unplug it to charge the Lipo anyway.

One nice thing about the NEW setup is that the plug is conveinently located outside of the Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) so it is very easy to unplug and charge!!!

How do you like the heat vents for the Lipo battery? The new Lipo location is Terrences brain child!!! He is very talented!!!!

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Jay

Hi Again Jay, I hope I am not taking up all of your time  I Know the numbers seemed a little odd to me too, the size of the motor would put it up with a 30 to 40 size glow motor, and the 1000 watts would verify it, but as you said the 28 amps just does not sound right, I know that a lot of sellers, do not know a lot about the products that they sell, I bought a 2410 outrunner on e bay, it was advertised as 2400kv but in reality its only about a 1530 kv at most, it works fine, but the numbers just did not add up, anyway I like the 2409-12 motor alot, the FREE tower pro motor chart I got from you, has been a big help, thank You, I know that the Students at the High School will Love your donation, And dont forget you have to write a ESSAY too :D :D :D Take care, Say hi to pam & Terrence for me, Oh buy the way, How are you mounting the lipos on the new hydros, as per terrence modification, Inquiring minds would like to know:p Nice picture of you and yours on your gallery.

Hi all , merry xmas and happy new year.
Jay , congrats on the new bussiness venture. Good luck.
Chellie , that plane is very nice.
My hat off to both of you supporting the school project.
Brushless motors , ha-ha , it's all gibbirish to me. I work on real cars and can do just about anything that needs doing but this technology is just to new...if the shops don't even know what they are selling.....
A quick question..what about water damage?
If a Bl motor gets wet , what then? wrecked? dry it out & keep going?
I have added a pic as promised a week ago.
I've also cut out 4 kits and I can get the floats for 6USD a set. I've made an EPP batterybox that fits under the deck and moves the battery forward. It looks a little like the "FMS waterflyer" underneath. Sealed to the deck and a hole in the "cabbin" through the deck for battery placement. All sealed and water tight.
I've taken pic's of work in progress but don't know where to put them. :(

Hi Wannafly, Thats a very nice picture of you and your daughter :) oops wife :D got to watch out for me, I have a over abundance of a sence of hummor, and I use it :p Happy Holidays to you and yours, and Happy New Year, on the brushless motor getting wet, just shake it out, blow it out and go again, they are almost indestructable, same with the servos, let them dry out over night, and then try the electronics, sometimes you might get a little water in the servo, and it might affect it, just replace the servo with a new one and go again, there cheap like me
on the pictures, go to advance on the reply to thread, click on manage attachments, click on browse and down load from your computer, Its easy, if i can do it anyone can ;) this tech on brushless was a little confusing to me to at first, but just keep asking questions, you will learn it fast, I did, Thanks for the complement on the Bi Plane, it should be fun, and it was cheap like me :D here is the link if you ever want to GIT one for yourself, http://nitroplanes.com/ it was like $69.95 US
just click on rc airplanes or brushless airplanes, if you need any help with motors, lipos, Esc, receivers, just ask Jay, myself or anyone here on wattflyers, ask all you want, thats what we are all here for, your success in RC aircraft, Good to hear from again, hope to see your pictures of your work in progress soon, take care and have fun, Chellie

Hi Chellie , Jay
Sorry about your aunt CHELLIE , good people go to a good place though hey!
Jay , yes EPP is pourus but you can cover it with "OROCOVERLITE".
A bit of 3M or BISON glue spray , allow to dry . then iron on film.
I got fed up waiting for my EPP so I've made a "batt. box out of polyst.
I've covered it in the the orocover. It's the first time I've ever done anything like it so it's not hell of a neat ,but , it will do seeing as I'll probably break it anyway. :) ... :(
I think it's time I start a thread of my own and then I'll post my pic's there.

Hi LeeHamer :) I belive that most if not all of your electronics will transfer over to the Miss Hydro 1.5
You might be able to get your RCV to fly a little better, by moving the CG forward to the carbon fiber brace at the front of the hydro, reduce your control throws to about 9mm up 9mm down as not to over control, the CG is very important, you can move your battery up or add weight to the top front of your floats, after i moved my CG up on my Miss HYdro, and reduced the control throws, it tamed the hydro very nice, and I was able to control it very well, Take Care & Have fun, Chellie

Your Servo should work again if you let it dry out. Once it does completely, try water proofing it with some silicone around the seams and around the part that the control horn fits onto.

This usually worked for me! Some servos are never effected and some seam to hate water. Just the luck of the draw! (=

Hi Pokboss, your going to love the Miss Hydro Flyer, Jay at GITech does a real nice job in building them and setting them up, I bought the Miss hydro, and jay gave me a lot of customer support, I have them flying pertty good now, they are a blast to fly, the trick to flying these is to set the control surfaces way down to start with, except for the rudder, as not to over control, about 3/8 up 3/8 down and the CG at the carbon fiber at the front of the hydro, or a little infront of, take it up slow, get it up high, and land fast,
thats about all their is to them, I did not know that at first, and had some trouble in the begining, now i got it :D Take Care & have Fun with your new Hydro. Chellie

Hi Bobgr, The radio has dual rates, so you can turn down the amount of movement on the aileron/elevator to move only 3/8 of an inch up and down, after you get acuainted with the hydro a little more, you can add more movement to the controls for aerobatics, the rudder its best to leave at full movement if possible , you need that for ground handling,
hope that helps, Chellie

Hi guys and gals!!! How are you?

Yep, I think you will be happy with the Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp)! I install the Carbon Fiber control links in the control horns in such a way that the rudder has MAX movement and the elevons move at the ~3/8 inch amount that Chellie is refering to durring the build process. So you will not have to do this yourself.

To increase movement of the elevons once you GIT the hang of it just move the control links up to the "top" position on the servo control horn. You will see when you GIT your Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) in about 3 weeks. :) ;)

Use the FMS links I provided in the begining of this thread to practice in the meantime!:) Though your Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) will ship with my version that has over 50 models on it, use this for now to a head start!

You should GIT in about 10-20 hours in on the FMS sim if you have never flown any 4ch acrobatic plane before.

Use a dual annalog control pad like a "logitech dual action" and set your annalog pad controls from top to botom in this order 1,4,3,2,1,4,3,2 so you can GIT your automatic muscle reflexes ready for the REAL THING (http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/Miss Hydro 1.5)!

:D Thanks for the orders and thanks Chellie for your support!!!!!!

:D I owe it all to my customers and fans for making this all possible!!!!

TTYL everyone,
Jay

Chellie
Hey thanks CHELLIE, thanks for the advice! I can't wait to start playing around with it! Its great he is making these nice, I hear a lot of BS about the Storm launchers and the Hydroflyer. Lots of people complaining about cheap parts and bad service. I'm looking foward to trying the new miss hydro 1.5! Hopefully it works out good!

The BS comes from people not knowing better...just remember these baby's are FRAGILE.....much more so than the ST! (ooops..I mean SL..storm launcher)

SL is made stronger for inexperienced users,....something like a road car when the miss hydro is more like a F1 car.

Cool, Thats good to hear BobGr, they are a lot of fun, Just incase you have a mishap, Sumo Glue sold at LOWES works good for repairs, and 5 min epoxy works good for small parts, I am on my second Miss Hydro, my first one taught me a great deal, and you will have one under your belt, so to say, before you get really good at flying these hydros, in my opinion, they are the best on the market, with lots of power, and if you need parts, they are every where, I dont think you can get replacement parts for the SL , from what I have heard, Take care & have fun with your new Miss Hydro, Chellie

Hi Bob,

How are you? and Miss Hydro 1.5? Yes, the battery is removable and it is in their tight. Just pull on all 6 wires(2 main power, 4 cell balencing tap) evenly and you will be able to pull it out. The fit will losen over time...you could even try to loosen the fit if it is to tight for your preference.

Let me know how it goes!

It was Sunday, the 14th as(like) at 8 p.m., the CHARGER was plugged loading LiPo's battery(sink) it(he,she) was not marking load full still(yet), we put in agreement to be going to buy a LUNCH to do of having dinner in Overcome You I remembered(reminded) the battery(sink) and it is commented to my lady, we are not late mas I believe(create) of 15 minutes, We come and my family I wait for myself in the car to open first I and they were entering rapidly to cover of the cold, when I opened one fixes for the mirror of the room that the smoke was going out below the door of the bedroom that the CHARGER was plugged, there was light, I was rapidly and opened the door, the locked up smoke I stick in the face and I could not see anything, I had to go out to seize air, immediately seize the telephone and report to 060 while it(he,she) was looking for something with which to throw(add) water, it(he,she) shouts my wife who was asking for aid, lower the lever of current and between(among) (it(he,she) was bringing a deaf lamp with me, not because, I never use her …) I ran to the bedroom and opened again the door (this door is closed alone) again the smoke was not leaving me to see anything, Fan the water and listen to the hiss of the fire when it(he,she) wants to go out, I went out to seize again air and listen to my wife me to shout driven to despair that already it(he,she) was not entering, she(it) saw the big smoke from the house of face and he(she) was thinking that not tape-worm I marry to risk, I notice that the heat was not so intense and I thought that the fire scarcely was seizing force but being not able to see, I come a person that I did not know wherefrom come in with a hose and his(her, your) covered face and it(he,she) started spraying water for all sides while I continued fanning water where wise that the loader was, the smoke started vanishing and we manage to see the flame, we her(it) extinguish and extract the furniture that was catching fire, I was feeling badly, was bringing disgusts and the head was hurting(grieving) myself, But with desire of continuing up to assuring me that the danger had happened(passed), I opened the window of the bedroom and now if they came scarcely a policeman's(police) patrol and later the firemen, they assured us that the danger had happened(passed), recommended to me to take great water and to walk, this night I did not sleep, the whole clothes were impregnated with smell of smoke as well as the armchairs and the beds, but thanks to God we were with Health.
The battery was in the Miss Hydro 1.5

Sorry to hear that your lipo battery caught on fire, and made a mess, You Must never, never, never, charge a lipo battery unattended, and you must always charge it in a fire proof container, like a metal box, can, There are lots of precautions on lipo charging, fires happen, and you must take safety measures to prevent things like that from happening, its in your hands to take all safety precaution. and know and understand your equipment, to prevent things like that from EVER Happening.
Take care, Chellie

Hi dishjuarez,

Wow, sheesh...that sucks. http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif I feel bad for you. http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif Scary stuff!!! I am very glad that every one was OK though!!!! except for Miss Hydro...a moment of silence. . . . . . . . . . . .

I am glad that the damage was not more extensive!!! It could have been a lot worse and I am glad you cought it before you lost everything!!!

Is the pile of burnt stuff the Miss Hydro on the metal cabinets? http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif

People...Take note!!!
Do not let this happen to YOU!!!
Thank you dishjuarez for sharing in hopes that this serves to educate others and prevent this from happening again to anyone that uses Lipo's!!!

I should post an exerpt from my "Miss Hydro 1.5 Modification and Care Manual" here to hopefully point it out to those who(like most people http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif ) just throw out the instructions! http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif :

-----------------------------------------
4) Li-po Batteries
CRITICAL information you need to know about the care of Li-po batteries.
NEVER leave the Li-po plugged into the Hydro!!!!!! IT WILL EXPLODE!!!!! AND BURN!!!!!! AND DESTROY IT!!!!!!! AND ANYTHING NEARBY!!!!!!!
-Never charge with anything but an approved Li-po Charger!!!!!!
-Never overcharge!!!!!!!
-Never over discharge!!!!!!!
-Invest in a Li-po Balancer!!!!!! Ask me.
-If your Li-po becomes puffy, has a bubble, heats up during charging, or shows damage in any way. Be very carful. Dispose of it properly right away. Do not let it out of your site.
-Keep an eye on it at all times during charging. Be carful and do not leave it unattended. Charge time should be about 1.8 hours.
-Invest in a better charger to prolong the life of your Li-po. Most are 12volt so you can charge it at the park. Very convenient.
-Lipos are a new technology and require careful attention and precise maintenance to assure you get the most out of them and prevent failure and fire.
NEVER leave the Li-po plugged into the Hydro!!!!!! IT WILL EXPLODE!!!!! AND BURN!!!!!! AND DESTROY IT!!!!!!! AND ANYTHING NEARBY!!!!!!!
Because of the nature of this hobby and the still experimental nature of Li-po’s we can take no responsibility for any damage to anything for any reason whether or not express or implied. Be carful and use caution and common sense.
------------------------------------

Again, I am glad everyone is OK, and I wish you the very best in the future!!!

If you would like I will send you another Miss Hydro 1.5 at the same price you paid for your first one with ALL the new upgrades such as the 6ch Transmitter. You will be in line with all the other orders so that would make you #14 in build order(just to let you know). http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

Let me know how it is going and keep us updated!

Hello all…..

This is my first post on this forum and I am very excited to say that I am the proud new owner of a Miss Hydro. I have been out of the R/C game for a very long time and decided to get back into it as there is NOTHING to do out where I live.

I will give a brief story as to my experience so far with the wonderful company GIThobby and there amazing product the Miss Hydro.
Well it starts with me coming home from work over lunch to see if I have any late x-mass presents waiting for me on the front step and to my delight there was a large brown box. I jumped from my truck almost forgetting to put it in park to get this grand gift I could only hope was my new Hydro. As I got into the house I pulled out the knife and began to open it up. When I ordered my Miss Hydro I had Jay do the fishing line enforcement and got the 6 channel remote. I felt as if I were 10 years old again as I pulled everything out of the box and began to read. Everything was just as it is described on the website. I REALLY wanted to take it out for a fast run up and down the block but resisted the urge. I then realized that it was time for me to get back to work so I slumped over and shuffled back to work. Needless to say the rest of the day was less than productive as I could think of nothing but getting home to play with my new toy. I have forgotten to mention that I live in Missouri along the Mississippi river and we have about 2 inches of ice on EVERYTHING. I figured this would be the perfect weather to play with the Miss Hydro, and I was right!! Talk about fast….I am not sure how fast it is on water since all the water around here is frozen solid but on ice this thing can MOVE! I quickly took the hydro up to the baseball field that looked more like an ice ring than anything else. BTW…don’t do this…do the flight sim. When I got to the field it was a winter wonderland of ice and tons of play/flying room. I quickly fell on my butt trying to get out of my truck on the ice and then shuffled down to the ball field. It was finally time to see how wonderful this machine really is. I managed to keep it under half throttle and on the ground…took every drop of will power. Even at half power the Miss Hydro smoked across the field. After about 10 min of running, per jay’s advice to break in the Li-Po. I packed it up and headed home. A few days later the wind finally calmed down and I was able to get some time under my belt on the flight sim.

Oh a side note. I am not sure if the 4 channel has it but the 6 channel has a plug on the bottom of it to put a trainer remote or something. This wonderful socket can also allow you to use the radio with your computer. If you want to know more about this message me and I would be happy to hook you up with links to the free software to do this.

Ok back to the story..i promise its almost over. Well as I said it’s a nice day now and I got a chance to see what this thing can do in the air. It’s amazing how well it flies. And this is coming from a person that has NEVER flown before. It glides like a leaf on the wind. At some points it would glide with less than 1/3 power. Well at my last run I got hit with this freak spur of wind and it rolled me over when I was about 2 foot off the ground. This is where I was most impressed. I was running about 50% throttle when it hit the ground. Oh and its about 20 degrees outside. I did not break a prop or anything. Just hit the ground and had some minor tape work to reinforce the parts of the Miss Hydro I bent a little.

Well the end of this story is this is a GREAT product sold by an excellent company. I will by far recommend this to anyone that asks.
Thanks again Jay for all your help and time with me on the phone. We are going to get another 3-6 inches of snow so if I can find a video guy I will take some vid of it in action…editing out crashes.

And Chellie…I used to live in 29 palms for about 8 months….god it gets hot up there.

Hi Madzeek :) and Welcome to Wattflyer, these hydros sure are a lot of fun huh, and they are fast too, I built mine with a 2409-12 motor, its a 2408-21 with a turbo :D and its way too fast, I am going back to the stock motor, You sure made a big change from 29 palms to missouri :)

ps. if you have a mishap, sumo glue sold at LOWES works great and for small parts 5 min epoxy work great too.

Yeah I used to be in the Marines...had training out there.

As for the Hydro...i have a very good glue gun..tape...and lots of time. I could not imagine running it with a faster motor like your talking about. I still dont have the nerve to get it more than a few feet off the ground. Tomorrow we are supposed to get a decent snow. I hope its nice and fluffy....makes for a great crash pad if you happen to mess up.

Hi Bobgr, does your hydro have the shock motor mount on it, if it does check and see if its not loose, grap the motor and try to twist it from side to side, check to see that the hinges are tight, check for any play in the linkages, hope that helps, Chellie

Hi Bobgr!!! :D I am glad you are sooo happy with your Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp)!!!

I have the solution for the left pull thing. Make sure your motor is pointed straight or pointing to the right up to 5 degrees. You can make it do this by heating up the heat shrink around the motor saver and holding the motor at the desired angle till the heatshrink cools again. Also, try to pre-stress the foam to point 5 degress to the right so it will have more of a tendancy to stay in that orientation. This is called right prop and needs to be set on most aircraft. I try to set it in durring the build but being a soft mount, there is a chance that it could become distorted.

Try this and let me know how it "turns" out! :D

Just received my beautiful Miss Hydro & I have the same issue with it pulling to the left and will try the above trick to fix it.

Im also skimming the ground and water with the props if I dont pull back on the right stick. But then it wants to fly and Im not ready for that. I lost all three props in 15 minutes from ground strikes and one flew off in the water. Thank god it drifted in cause it was about 30 degrees out on Sunday. Should I try to raise the CF tube that the motor is mounted to? Maybe shorter props? Maybe just some flying tips as I am new to hydros? Thanks

Thank you for saying she is beautiful!!! :D

One thing I noticed recently is that with the COG where it is now she likes to lean forward as the COG is sooo close to the point at which she makes contact with the ground on the front sponson Lexon skid plates.

Try this...Cut the back/trailing edge of the Lexon skid plate on the front sponson a little at a time until the pivot point of contact with the ground is far enough forward of the COG that it does not 'rock' so much. You may also cut the sponsons foam step here along with your cutting of the lexon so the step still maintains it's purpose.

As for the prop...the GWS 7x6 prop is all of these things... making it the best choice for the Miss Hydro 1.5....it is the smallest, fastest, and the most demanding prop setup possible for the 2408-21 brushless motor pulling a whopping 160 watts out of this motor that really should not produce more than ~140 watts. A static WOT (stationary - wide open throttle) test of more than 10 sec could fry this motor with this setup! But, in actual use it holds up perfectly during normal use as the prop is able to unload as it spins through the air as it moves forward. Max power and speed with the lightest weight and smallest prop is what the Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) is equipped with!!! :D

Let me know if moving it's pivot/contact point forward GITs it to stop leaning forward so badly. In any case...she will have a little tendency to lift the tail and lean forward when she is first starting from a stand-still as the 'skidding' friction tries to keep her in place and the force pulling it forward is above this 'skidding' contact point. You will always have to pull down on your elevons until she GITs moving along where the wind will stabilize it's attitude/deck/wing and keep it level on the ground so you can relax your down pull on the elevons. It's just about finding a happy medium you can live with. I woud have to say making this contact point 1/4 inch forward from where it is now should GIT you to where you will be comforable without advirsely affecting her performance. Don't get to over zelous though trying to GIT it not to lean forward as this is a fact of life for her. :)

You will GIT used to it. It is all just a part of learning the techniques of mastering the intricacies of a craft that can do soooo much all in one.

I have begun making this improvement to the design of the Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) during my most recent builds. R&D is always going on as it should!!! :D ;)

Let me know how it works out and if you have any more???

Sure, I can try help you out.

Great info thanks!
I've only had her out once and since this is my first REAL hydro (other than two Storm Launchers) I think I may be giving her too much throttle starting out. It may just be my learning curve and not the setup so before I start hacking away at her I'm going to ease up a bit on the throttle.
This motor is so fast it shoots the prop off if you gun it from a stand still....that's so wild. :D Hopefully this weekend I can git her back out for a while and I'll let you know.

On another note: Are there any pics of paint schemes out there?
I think Im going to go with some Hot Pink for my precious girl....it only seems fitting:p

Thanks for a great product and awesome support!

Hi ratrod :) here are some links for hobby foam.
Also hardware stores like LOWES and others carry insulation foam Board that can be used.

Well I must say I have been having a blast with my Hydro. The only down side I have found is that flying close to any kind of tree that is taller than you can climb is not a good idea. I managed to land my Hydro in the very top of a tree and wedge it between a few branches.

My main question is on the GITaHobby website I could have sworn there were a large number of pics detailingthe fishing line enhancement and the best places to add tape. The main reasons I ask is out here in Missouri its cold....probably to cold for the Hydro to be out flying but the warm weather is just so far away. I have hit the ground pretty hard a few times and want to make sure I don't do the same thing I did to my SL and split it in half from a hard landing/crash...ok it was more of a crash then anything. Also though flying it over ice, snow, and anything else that happens to be on the ground mainly little blades of grass covered in ice...seem to eat away at my pontoons. What can I cover those in to prevent this?

Oh and a side note....for those of you that get the sticky snow on the ground dont try and fly the hydro in it unless you have covered the pontoons in something that snow will not stick to. I got a nice clump of snow on one pontoon and it forced the plain to role over and land upside down...thank god for the fishing wire enhancement or I would have lost the hole tail section. In stead it just bent it up a shade and required a litte tape reinforcement.

Anyway thanks in advance for any help....and as always this Miss Hydro is the best ever!!!!

Hi madzeek!

Great to here you love your Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) and are having a blast with it!!!

How did you GIT it out of the top of that tree? I had to call the fire department before and they had to use all 100 feet of their extention ladder to GIT it down! I told them it had a lipo battery in it and asked them if they had seen the news about the laptop lipo batteries that have been exploding. They simply asked how much time do they have and I said they have about an hour. Of coarse they had much longer than an hour and I don't even think a Lipo explodes just because of over-discharge, but they showd op right away. It was soooo funny, pedestrians and cars were stoping and asking what was going on and the firemen and me would only say "there is a boat stuck in the top of a tree"!!! People were sooooo puzzled!!!!! It was just soooooooo FUNNY!!!!! I wish I had my camera that day!!!!!!! LOL!!!!

As for the sponson covering. I started doing that with the clear packing tape for the last 4 Miss Hydro 1.5's (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp)I have made and it is now a part of every build. You could do the same thing. I immagine snow would have a hard time sticking to the non-stick backing in the tape! Just apply it to the bottom and cut it along the sides with a sharp razor blade for a perfect fit! Use your finger nail or one of your props to secure/bond it to the foam and it will stay on and hold up pretty well!!! If it GITs beat up, just peal it off and do it agian! It also adds strength!

GIT it!!! GOT it GOOD!!!! :D

Any one here have their Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) with this new mod? Let us know!

The Fishing line mod picks can be seen HERE (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/images.asp?globalTrigger=view&categoryID={DB383D1A-09EA-4789-91E7-5FBE9A5CAD07}&imageID={D8AC1D98-970E-4076-B235-AEF2CD56DF02}) on my web sites image gallery.

People, email me (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/contactUs.asp)/post your pics here for everyone to see your custom paint/sticker jobs and I can add them to my image gallery!

He even took me to his new store front so I could check it out. This man has alot on his plate.
Jason is donating one of the Miss Hydros to our the Lafayette High School Flyers Club. I am the moderator of the club there.
Chellie, first, thank you for donating to the club. Second Jason may have said it before but I'll say it to. Thank You for the help. Jason spoke very highly of you.

Just purchased a miss hydro, can’t wait to get it, should be about 4 weeks before I see it. I Never flown anything before:o . I Don’t know if will help me, but I used to race 10th scale RC buggies and trucks for about 3 years. That is the extent of my RC ing. I'm sure glad there’s a sim included. I heard there’s a way to hookup your controller to it, is that true?

I will use it as a boat while I am learning how to fly it on the sim.:D

I am open to all criticism and information to help me enjoy my newly acquired craft. So don’t hesitate.

Hey hey everyone! I ordered my miss hydro 1.5 a little over two weeks ago. I think the ETA was 2-3 weeks, so i figured it should be here any day to two weeks. GITech001 I was wondering if you had any updated info on my order? Its going to Oregon, my name is Shane Carter. I also wanted to thank you for being so costumer friendly! When I ordered a Hydroflyer, they didn't say anything about back orders or anything, just said it would be there in a week. It took about 3-4, if it is going to take 3-4 weeks that is fine if the customer knows that. Thanks for keeping your site updated and replying to peoples questions! This costumer service will guarantee i will recommend you to anyone who is looking for a flyer!

the lipo that I bought from Jay that fits the Miss Hydro, has the standard 3 cell balance plug, I am not sure if you will need an adapter or not, check in the battery/charging threads, there are some smart people there that can tell you.

Hi Todd,

Sorry for the late reply, I am soooo busy and for some reason all your emails goto my spam box. Oh well.

The "RCV" hydro battery will not fit the Miss Hydro 1.5's (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) custom cut battery placement for correct COG. I would recomend you GIT the correct GIT Lite Pro 11.1v 1500mah 3S1P 10C/15C 102 gram Li-po battery with Deans Plug (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/git-light-pro-1500mah-1015c-l.asp) battery but it will still fly with yours if you (maybe) tape it under the nose as far forward as posible.

The Fishing line is held in place with small squares of Lexon with a little hole in the center where I threaded it through and tied a knot so it would not pull back through the hole. Look vary closely at the pics in my image gallery for my old Miss Hydroplane, you sill see it.

For strengthening with tape....Tape has HUGE tensle strength (from end to end) so place it in that orientation wherever you feel the Depron or EPS needs reinforcement. Such as the tail pieces, the outside side and bottom of the sponsons(use packing tape for the EPS and trim it for a nice fit). Basicaly, look at a piece and say to yourself...'in a crash...how would this be stressed'...and place a piece of tape there the long way.

The glue takes about an 2 hours to set up to the point you can manipulate the part. But give it 24 hours to cure fully in most cases.

The rudder servo is simply held on with the glue.

Glue the Standard Clip Control Horns in place...front and back.

The Z-bends are secured to the Carbon Fiber Control Links with the shrink tube and set using a drop of CA(super glue).

Hint: Glue only one end/Z-bend until you are calibrating the controls after the electronics are installed. That will allow you to make fine adustments. Then glue them up!

The drawing that I included with your kit lets you know where the COG should be.

Cut the motor mount poles' mount all the way through. This will allow room for the GIT Lite Pro 11.1v 1500mah 3S1P 10C/15C 102 gram Li-po battery with Deans Plug (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/git-light-pro-1500mah-1015c-l.asp) to be placed/slid in underneath it in the hot wire cut...cutout.

Every "HINGE" should be taped the long way and if you wish...place a piece of tape perpendicular to the hinge at each side/end of each hinge to provide a sigificant increase in hinge strength.

After you tape the hinges...pre-bend them to 45 degrees. This will free them up. You may have to apply pressure on the top side of the hinge point itself to help compress the Deprons core durring bending/pre-stressing.

Well, let me know if you have any more questions!

TTYL,
Jay

TTYL everyone,
Jay

I stopped down at Git-A-Hobby again and Jason hooked me up. We got our Miss Hydro (Jason has alot of faith in me and my students, he wants us to build it.) Hi Thor :) that battery protector cant hurt, its cheap insurance, normally you can feel the performance drop after about 8 to 10 mins then its time to stop, normally you wont drain the battery past the point of no return, but it never hurts to be safe, Take care and have fun, Chellie

How many watts is this 2408-21. I looked up the specs and says max current 14 amps. So that would be 155.4 watts. How many amps can you run on this motor continuous?

Hi Thor, the 2408-21 is a 1400kv motor with a max current of 13.8v, max rpm is 8200, 14 amps should be a safe continuous amp load, max load current is 16.2amps, ask Jay for the free towerpro motor chart with your hydro, take care and have fun, Chellie

Hi Bob, here is some info for you on your motor mount, Take care & have fun, Chellie

Hello All.
This is just a quick WARNING NOTE FOR THE NEWBIES OF FLYING BOATS..
I have been into RC cars & trucks pretty much since I was born. My uncle was a RC & slot car distributor (wholesale) I never got into flying because I had plenty of car & truck stuff. He did not deal in planes.
So now that I'm older I decided to give it a try.
The flying boat grabbed my attention, so I ordered a storm launcher.
It is great ! I played with it in front of my house.
Many nose dives into the asphalt. Its still in one piece! Getting a little beat now but I have run through many batteries & many crashes.
Its amazing how durable the foam is.
So I had to go 1 step further, I wanted the real thing.. not the wal-mart style. So I ordered a flight simulator with a like real remote. (Its still hard)
Then I ordered a RCV RTF.
I was so excited when it arrived. So I charged it all up & went to the park, (not on the asphalt) it was great on the ground , so I tried to fly.
It went up and was cool (I had a little more trouble controlling it than I thought I would)
I bring it down to land and the rear wings break away. wow not even 3 Min's of fun. The landing was a little hard but not terrible.
So back home I went to repair it. I can't believe how easy it came apart.
Next time the same thing (another 3 Min's )
Next time a light nose dive.....Broke a pontoon!!!! Back home again Maby 4 Min's that time.
Next time the motor did not have enough power to move it across the grass...Back home again.
I checked the batt & every thing?????????? Every thing was OK
went to the hobby store OOPS no help the radio was 35 MHZ ILLEGAL here. ( so no help there ) So I went back home to try to figure it out.
I Found that the ESC had a problem. Bought a new one & fixed it.
Any how it seems like every time you have a landing other than perfect THE REAR WINGS BREAK....
I have never been able to enjoy a full charge. My wal-mart storm launcher is way cheaper, more enjoyable & I don't know why?????
I have even let my 8 yr old God son play with the storm launcher & its still in 1 piece. (thats amazing he had some wicked crashes that I thought did it in & it was in front of my house in the street)
So I guess I am asking for some great advise!!!!!!!!!!! Please
I have spent way too much money on 2 RC Vs mass parts new radio
& once i put my GIT Miss Hydro together I don't want to smash it to bits in 3 Min's.... 3 mins of fun & 3 hrs of repair!
I am ready do drive over the whole bunch.
I DON'T RECOMMEND ANYONE NEW TO THIS START OUT WITH ONE OF THESE.....

Yes I'm crying, boo hoo hoo...... I never wasted so much money on any of my RC trucks or cars.

Any great advise??????? Other than investing in foam stocks

Thanks, crying, frustrated, and ready to give it up

Hi Ratrod, like a lot of people, you got off to a bad start, bad hydros with bad electronics, motor, etc. Thank goodness Jay at GITech is trying to resolve that a little, even the Miss Hydro is not indestructable, I know that for a fact, but it held up , and only took 1 Miss Hydro to teach me how to fly these hydros with some advice from Jay at GITech, well I am on my second hydro now, my first one taught me well, held in there, untill I had so much glue on it, it was getting a little heavy, infact i bought my Miss Hydro before Jay opened his store, i bought mine on e bay, and was not having to much luck, because I did not know where the CG was suppose to be at, and did not know that you are only suppose to have a small amount of control surface movement on the elevons or it will stall and fall out of the sky, thats where Jay told me what i was doing wrong, and where the CG is suppose to be at, most sellers of these hydros dont have a clue, as to how they are suppose to be set up, and they are hard enough to fly anyway, the lucky people are the ones that have bought a hydro from a seller that knows his product inside and out, and that has flown them, this is the seller that can insure the greatest success to the buyer, most of my crashes were before Jay started his buisness, and I did not have a clue on how to set up my hydro right, the people that have purchased their hydros from Jay @ GITech, have a big head start, on being successful with there hydros, but it is still up to the individual, and there skills. Take care and have fun, Chellie

Chellie,
I have been talking with jay, But at this point Ive been waiting 2 days for reply. I wish some one local had a clue.
Thats the bad thing about hobby shops, they come & go I have watched this all of my life.
The one guy that can help me does not work too many hours at the hobby shop & when he does I cant get there to see him.
So I just keep waiting for help over the net.
Thanks for taking the time to help me.
Oh yea I found a good deal on a radio ( I think) I got an Airtronics RD6000 Super 6 new for $135.00 Its got lots of nice features.
Thanks again

Hi everyone!!! :D

Sorry for the late reply!!! My internet has been down for three days and coupled with the move to my new store this week I haven't had the time to do anything else for several days now.

I have 35 emails to respond to and many threads to catch up on tonight!

I will be working my way down the list of questions here in my thread and in emails all night tonight.

I am almost mooved in to my new store and I hopw to be open on moday! I was supposed to be open January 15th... then a week latter...then Feb. 1st...now hopfully monday!

I can't wait to post pics of my new store!!!

NOTICE: Caps just so people will notice it....Everything has been delayed/stretched...my store moving/opening...orders...emails...an even Miss Hydro 1.5 builds!

I want everyone to know! I am not falling off.....I am falling behind!!!

I am still working ~20 hour work days....I just have sooooo many responsabilities. :)

So...Please understand I am trying my best to work at catching up...and I will after the move settles down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I promise!

In all........after this EVERYTHING will suffer about a two week back up!!!

Small orders....about a week...
Miss Hydro 1.5 orders.....about two weeks(maybe more, it's hard to catch back up on these with the time it takes to make each one perfect)...
Emails and thread questions.....about four days now...

But here I am now...just a sign that things will be getting back to normal very soon...about another week or so!!! OK?

OK, on to answering emails and thread questions!

See you in my next post! :D ;)

TTYL,
Jay

 Oh...one more announcement here...I am now including a Carbon Fiber upper tail spar reinforcement, custom modified forward sponson contact point/fulcrum so she doesn't 'lean' forward badly upon take off, and full sponson bottom/skid protection recomended to me by you guys here in our thread at no extra charge for all current and future Miss Hydro 1.5's!!!!!!!!!!!! It is just part of the ongoing R&D and improvement/perfection of the best flying hydro in the world!!!! The Miss Hydro 1.5!!! (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp);) :D

Hi ratrod,

I would have to say that purchasing the body/parts kit (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/pC/1-hydrofoam-packages.asp)is the best way to go at only $40.00 for it all!!! Man I need to update my site with pics!!!!! Soon...soon!;)

I think I might have already replied to this post but ....I am working my way down the thread so I do not miss anyone!!!

Check out my first post I made tonight to see I am now including full sponson bottom coverage...yeah I have replied to this with my story of my old Miss Hydroplane getting stuck in a tree and having the fire department come to GIT it out!!! It was soooo funny! :D :D :D

hi Jay, I see the pictures of the fishing line, but how are they conected? thanks...

I used to use small Lexon squares with little wholes in them and tied off after threading through the hole...but now I use a completely different method that saves time and works GREAT! It is an improvement!

I use Lexon triangles and fiber reiforced tape to capture and guide the fishing line. I would like to remind every one why 20lbs fishing line is the best for the use...it stretches! This absorbes impact enery and saves other things from breaking. I also use two additional peices of Carbon Fiber to guide and reinforce the Fishing Line Tail Reinforcement mod (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/fishing-line-tail-reinforcemen.asp).

Hi Shane,

Sorry for the late reply. Read up the thread...back a page now I think...to my first post of tonight....(look at the posting date/time)

I have been OOC as far as the net goes and have been in the middle of 'the big move' to my new store.

That post will explain it all...

You Miss Hydro 1.5 build is still not 'on the table'...I want you to know that...so you know what is going on and what to expect...I would have to say another two weeks...I hope less but...I can only speculate at this point as the move has kicked me in the ass...I hope you can understand and can stand putting up with my abitity to over burden myself. ;) :D

I have had to sand-mud-sand-mud-sand-paint-paint-paint-paint...and that is just the walls...then came the race track...plan-think-plan-cut-screw-cut-screw-cut-screw...you GIT the picture....And I had too!!!!!! It was all a part of the agreement I made with the mall...to remodel and have the track up before opening in the new store space!!! I didn't think it would be so hard and time consuming...live and learn and work till it's done...

Again...sorry for any inconvenience....and thank you for the compliments!!!!!!!!!

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hi Tbergma1, Welcome to wattflyer, Glad to have you here, in this thread there is nothing but a bunch of party animals :) that love to fly these unstable lifting bodys :) they are a blast to fly, they take some getting use to, after you get the hang of it, they are pure fun, also I wanted to say Hi neighbor, I live in Azusa calif, I go out that way to go to the pechanga casino, i think i spelled that right, if not Oh Well :) that cell pro is a nice charger, I am looking into the cell pros big brother the balance pro, or the astro 109 lipo charger, as I am getting into 30 size electric helis with 6 cell lipos and 22.2 volts, my little triton charger wont charge this bigger battery, here is some more info on the cell pro if you need it,
the lipo that I bought from Jay that fits the Miss Hydro, has the standard 3 cell balance plug, I am not sure if you will need an adapter or not, check in the battery/charging threads, there are some smart people there that can tell you.

Hi Thor , so you are a mind reader huh :) I think that Thor is a cool name,
By the way if you have a controler something like this
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=11,CONTENTID=6951
you can down load the sim here on this thread, its free, and practice flying your Hydro, untill it comes in, by then you will be a pro at hydros, well almost :) take care and have fun, Chellie

Yup, Thor is cool! I said to myself "cool name"! I talked to him on the phone the other day.

And yup...that is the right controller! Look on the first page of this thread for pics of the controller settings so you can practice corectly. It will do you double harm to practice wrong as you will then have to unlearn the incorect automatic muscle reflexes you would be practicing with....FMS comes set up as 'Mode 1' and is backwards for us here in the US who use Mode 2...what the Miss Hydro 1.5 is.

Let me know if you know what I am talking about...

Hey guys and gals,
I stopped down at Git-A-Hobby again and Jason hooked me up. We got our Miss Hydro (Jason has alot of faith in me and my students, he wants us to build it.) He also hooked us up with a second hydroplane (obviously an inferior German knock off of his) and a foamie with a brushless to build. can anyone say "This guy is great!" Jason we will keep you up to date with how the build is going (wether it is through phone calls or just your ears ringing) and try to keep every one else up to date with the club. Thank you Jason and Watt Flyer for all the help

what a bummer for this guy, i wonder what kind of craft this one is, obviously cheap
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pmtuQqWLUA&mode=related&search=

Hey........what a coincidence!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the German Hydro I gave to Chris here!!!!!!!!!

The EPP Hydro...I ordered some in my search for the best flying hydro. I still had two left so I gave one to Criss for his students after school flying club. Man it is a hard build and the tail is simple uncoated foam!

It was funny....Chris said...we can build it if the insrtuctions are in english...I looked at him and said...nope...their in German!...We laughed!!!

Criss is a good guy!

Let all wish them better luck with their "Flugboat" :) ;) :D

Hey guys and gals,
I stopped down at Git-A-Hobby again and Jason hooked me up. We got our Miss Hydro (Jason has alot of faith in me and my students, he wants us to build it.) He also hooked us up with a second hydroplane (obviously an inferior German knock off of his) and a foamie with a brushless to build. can anyone say "This guy is great!" Jason we will keep you up to date with how the build is going (wether it is through phone calls or just your ears ringing) and try to keep every one else up to date with the club. Thank you Jason and Watt Flyer for all the help

Mr. Clean

Yes, keep us up to date and we want to see pics!!!! Right guys and gals. Give the teacher home work...I love this!!!

Haha, I can't resist! Last time I knew a high school teacher was in high school...so this is cool!!!

Stop by again soon!

Jay

Heres another question, would we benefit from having one of these installed on our miss hydro's?
http://www.fmadirect.com/detail.htm?item=2117&section=45

Hi Thor :) that battery protector cant hurt, its cheap insurance, normally you can feel the performance drop after about 8 to 10 mins then its time to stop, normally you wont drain the battery past the point of no return, but it never hurts to be safe, Take care and have fun, Chellie

Yep, Chellie is right! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D :D :D :D

Isn't Chellie awsome everyone? I can't wiat for you to visit Pam and I someday! Dinner will be our treat!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D

Hi Jay, Hi Everybody, Jay I got a Question for you, You are good at Crunching numbers, see if you can figure out what the wattage, wing load, thrust to weight ratio would be, I posted the specks on this page, thank you, Your friend Chellie, CANNCEL Got these questions answered already :)
Thank you anyway, Chellie

TTYL,
Jay

Chellie, and any one who can help this disaster waiting to happen
It get into the S here at night. I only keep my thermostat at 67 or 68 degrees. When it's in the S I am dying......I don't miss California.
When I first moved here people thought I was strange, Because it would be 70 & I would be wearing a jacket! 70 around here is weather for shorts.

Anyhow, I wanted to ask you a question????? Should I buy a trainer airplane?????
I am so sick of only getting less than 5 Min's before smashing my hydro.
Everyone says they are harder to fly than a plane, is that true???
This is no fun & I have invested way too much to quit right now.

So please give me some good avice... I have a simulator & I can fly it OK for a while.....I JUST CANT FLY MY HYDRO FOR MORE THAN 1 LIFT OFF.
It breaks tooo easy.
I have been into trucks all of my life. I am disappointed in myself for destroying so much so quick. It is defiantly 2 different worlds.
LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.
I don't want to get my Miss Hydro all assembled & smash it in 5 Min's.

Hi Ratrod :) The answer is YES YES YES get your self a trainer, a nice one, that you can teach yourself on would be the Easy Star, put a brushless motor on it, and you will have hours of fun flying this plane, the hydros are like learning to fly a heli, you want to have some rc airplane flying time under your belt as they say, Take care, Chellie

I am going to make a quick reply tonight so I can spend time with Pam...

Yep, a trainer is a good idea...I would have to say I would sugest training on a beginer 3D Depron plane like the eflight tribute. It is durable and has 4 channel control so you can practice all the controls like the Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) has. I fly one and with my upgraded carbon fiber (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/5mm-carbon-fiber-flex-tube.asp) used at the front to mount the motor on...I have nose dived it 10 times and it is still in one piece and flies perfect.

I would look up links for you but I have to GIT back to Pam...so, google eflight tribute. :) and you will find it.

as for your Miss Hydro build..If you don't want to destroy it... like ever...do the fishing line tail and carbon fiber reiforcement and cover your the entire hydro(sponsons and Depron parts) in packing tape and regular clear plastic(scotch) tape!!!! Tape is indestructable if used correctly!!!

You may still be better off saving your parts and ordering a Miss Hydro 1.5 (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/p/complete-miss-hydro-v15.asp) and waiting a month to GIT it. Just a suggestion...you may save money in the long run....;) :)

Hi Thor :) have you flown rc airplanes before, if not the best trainer would be the easy star, dont worry about ailerons right now, just get the eye hand cordination , depth perception, speed perception, learning first, the easy star will almost fly its self, its slow so it will allow you time to think, its a combination glider / plane, and it will take a beating, if your a first time pilot, this would be the first plane to start with, the planes you have listed, are nice, but you have to be right on top of them, very little time to think and react & recover, where the easy star will self right its self, if you take your hands of the controls, the plane that Jay was talking about would be a great second plane after you got the basic in, and would be a great aileron trainer, I am thinking about getting one myself,
hope this helps, Chellie

So I talked with the guy @ the hobby shop & he said fine.
The plane came with a EP-1080 prop which is about 3/4 of an inch longer on each side than the prop that came with my RCV hydro.
There are no #s on the RCV prop.

When I put it on it only sticks past the front of ths nose about 1 inch.
The other prop sticks past a lot farther. do you think it will fly????

Hi ratrod,

I think the motor on the "RCV" is a tower pro BM2410-12D.

Here is some great info on this motor courtesy of Jeff at heads up RC:

Recommended props for 3 cell Lipo batteries (11.1 volt):
GWS props fit the 3mm shaft on this motor perfectly - no adapter needed.
The GWS EP9050 prop produces about 23 ounces of thrust at 12 amps with a pitch speed of 41 mph.
The APC 8x3.8SF prop produces about 21 ounces of thrust at 10.5 amps with a pitch speed of 29 mph. You will need a prop adapter or prop saver to use this prop.
Recommended props for 2 cell Lipo batteries (7.4 volt):
The GWS EP1170 prop produces about 18 ounces of thrust at 10.5 amps with a pitch speed of 33 mph.
The GWS EP1047 prop produces about 17 ounces of thrust at 10 amps with a pitch speed of 23 mph
The above data is a result of my own testing using fully charged Lipo batteries.

2410-12D Specifications:
Weight = 2.1 ounces (59 grams)
Diameter = 1.2 inch (31mm)
Total Length = 2.4 inch (62mm)
Shaft Length = 1.1 inch (28mm)
Shaft Diameter = 3mm (GWS Props fit nicely)
Voltage = 7.2 to 12 KV=1530
Current = 12 amp max.

As for your other questions, I will post again so this post isn't too long. :D

Jay,
Chellie said you would be the one to ask.

Can you help me again. I am building my trainer plane. I put the motor from my hydrofoam in it.. It a RCV hydro.
They give me no info on the motor at all (its from china)
It looks like a tower motor, it has 12 doo hickies on the motor.
I am running a eflight 20 amp speed control.
So here is the deal, It came with a brush motor & I didnyt want to buy a new speed control.
So I talked with the guy @ the hobby shop & he said fine.
The plane came with a EP-1080 prop which is about 3/4 of an inch longer on each side than the prop that came with my RCV hydro.
There are no #s on the RCV prop.
He said the plane would fly with my prop.
When I put it on it only sticks past the front of ths nose about 1 inch.
The other prop sticks past a lot farther. do you think it will fly?
He said it would. If It wont & I put on this bigger prop will I smoke my speed control?
Im lost can you help?
Thanks

The prop that came with your "RCV" is a 8x4.3.

Your EP-1080 prop will smoke your motor.

The 12 doo hickies on the motor are called stator polls. More poles usualy means a lower KV (RPM's per Volt). Less poles usualy means a higher KV rating. This is a factor of how many poles the motor bell(magnets) has to pass in one revolution.

You can use your 8x4.3 "RCV" prop and GIT very good performance out of your motor and trainer.

Follow the guide above and if you have any more questions...Let me know!!!

Well, except mine right? :D Just kidding, I know what it's like to make something that is so involved/unique. It becomes something else when you say to yourself "this is the only one I will ever make". It becomes priceless to you!

You know?!

I have done a few of these things in my life like the coffee table you see in my old Miss Hydroplane pics HERE (http://www.bizingo.com/m/GITech/images.asp?globalTrigger=view&categoryID={DB383D1A-09EA-4789-91E7-5FBE9A5CAD07}&imageID={A6A3BB86-E42D-4994-979A-D0FC363FE8CD}). I had never painted before and will never paint something like that again. It is priceless to me. It has been my coffee table for 5 years now and has so many memories. I always say I will hang it on the wall someday soon but I can never GIT myself to do it. So, it just keeps getting more good memories. It has held up to the worst abuse and daily use. I would sell it but not for less than $50k because I could do so much with that kind of money. Change peoples lives! I would spend the rest of my life to make it worth more than that with what I would do with the money. I have a few inventions I would like to make a reality that could change peoples lives for the better. I have done three of these one-of-a-kind things that will remain one-of-a-kind (each one of a different discipline) and would sell anyone of them to someone who would help me help others like that. That person would deserve it! Their is nothing I want more than to make a difference in this world anyway I can. I want to be an inspiration to others for generations to come. :)

Well, my PC is back up, just some file moving from the backup file left to do. I still need to GIT Office 2007 running as the beta ran out without warning. Thanks Microsoft:rolleyes: :( !!! You could offer me the chance to buy it...that would make sense...:p  !!! Dumb!

Take care everyone,
Jay

Jay,
Thanks for taking the time to help with this:) . I just wanted to make sure it would fly this GWS Beaver. Th prop looks so small on the plane.
I can get the prop on w/ no adapters. How far infront of the nose should the prop be?
Its all built now except for that:)
I have been spending a lot of time on my simulator, I can fly over 10 mins now. It seems to make me go to sleep while on the simulator? I cant figur that one out.
I would also like to buy a replacement motor mount, pole,&plastic block X2
I only see the motor mount. Could you give me a price on all 3 parts & I will GIT it ordered:D
Do you have any tips on the flying for a terrible newbie???
Like you I only did RC car & truck Bla Bla Bla:cool: This is a totally different world & I have destroyed more in 1 month than in 35 yrs of trucks:mad:
What should I pratice on the simulator.
Anyhow thanks again & sorry to bore you.
Let me know about the mounts
Take care

Hi Ratrod :) on your plane, make it a little nose heavy, that will help to recover if you get in trouble, also, if you know someone that flies rc, have them trim out your plane for you, and show you how to fly it, you will be mors successful that way, also if there is a local flying club in your area join it, it will help you to learn rc flying quicker, Take care,Chellie

Chellie,
I dont quite know how to balance the plane:confused: The instructions dont tell me how to do it, they just give me a hunk of clay:confused:
They say the COG is 45-55 mm behind the leading edge of the main wing.
I assuming that is the front of the wing:confused:
So do I try to balance it from that point? What do I set it on & how wide will that be?
Thanks ,
