Has anyone tried the brand new Thunder Power Balancer for LiPo Batt.

It does two thru 5 cells and limits the voltage to 4.2 V per cell and balances all of the cells in your pack.

I was wondering if you can use it with a pulse charger for LiPo cells such as an Astro 109?

It looks really great and is not to expensive. If it works it will certainly help with keeping our third generation pacs in top shape.
Of course the packs will need a center tap lead for this unit to work, and many third generation Packs do have this feature.

I use the TP 205 balancer with my Astro 109 and it has no problem with it. A very worthwhile addition IMNSHO.

This is a great piece of equipment and the beauty is that you do not need to have any specific charger to use it. Astually you don't need a charger at all as the battery plugs into the balancer and has nothing to do with the charger. In the future TP will offer a charger to charge up the pack through the balancer but for now it works by draining the high cells to match the low cells.

And BTW it works great! YOu can see more here

Hope this helps?

It sounds like a nifty invention for making sure your packs don't go out-of-balance. I do not look forward to the day that my expensive Lipo packs turn into expensive Pillow Packs...

But if you have a Lipo pack which lacks the "balance connector", is this something you can buy and solder on in order to use the balancer?

We use a number 11 blade and cut into the top of the older generation lipos and added taps for balanceing. two 1 1/2 " wires with a bead of solder on the bare end for the three cell type. Piece of tape around the pack. After reading/balancing slide the bare ends into the crack/opening created by the cells and tape for storage.

I was taught this method by the RCBattery Cinic.

With the newer ones that have the circuit boards on top look like a different ball game, they usualy have their own charge lead, Electrify comes to mind right off, can't think of the others at the moment.

With that thought, if it doesn't have the mentioned board, I would definetly cut into the covering and explore it. Balance is the word, for sure.

Thanks cliff for covering the bases on this new piece of gear.
It sounds like a must have for protecting the packs we use both old and new that will extend their life and utility.

I was able to see one at the field yesterday here in Florida and it is tiny.

Your info is appreciated and will help all of us from making a mistake as we all have in the past.

Cliff...........Do you happen to have the 4 pin "female" conector for TP packs?

Fred..............I use the 205 balancer with AF 109, Triton, Ice, GP four port and TP 425 chargers with no problems.
I also use it on TP, Tanic. PQ and Apogee packs. IMHO a REALLY good product. I use it during or after charging about every 10 cycles. All my packs seem to stay well balanced now. Keeps my packs balanced for longer life, better performance and safer charging. :D

I also have a triton and a 109 astro.

Is once every 10 charges enough?

About how much is the difference in voltage after 10 charges?

Thanks again.

To be honest, I could go longer on most of my packs. Many times I hook up the balancer and it tells me the balance is OK. The first few times I used the balancer, my packs needed balanced but now with occasional use everything is staying balanced. It wasn't that long ago that we did not balance packs at all and they still stayed pretty balanced as long as they weren't abused (over discharged, discharged too far or charged to high). IMHO.........The newer generation of cells seem to hold their balance very well as long as they are used correctly.

Depends on the pack as some of my packs stay balanced better then others. A couple of my packs are still balanced after over 50 cycles!

That is great.
The TP 205 seems to yet another tool we have to keep things in order.
I am all for knowing the facts and being an informed consumer on all matters.
You have been a big help to myself and everyone who reads this thread as the TP 205 is fairly new.

Ps I am also from the keystone State and was a member of the Valley Forge Signal Seekers. Florida is great for flying as that white stuff never gets this far south. But those Hurricanes can cut my flying time a bit when they come.

Has anyone used the THUNDER POWER TP 210V.

I'm new to LIPO packs and I just won one in auction. I'll probably use it with an Astro 109D Charger.

Any recommendations for the proper use of this balancer?

Read the above posts. This thread and both the 205 and 210 are both 4 years old nowmand yes I still use my 210V along with my TP 1010C.

My thread over on RC Groups on the 1010c and 210
