I currently fly a Sig 1/4 scale clipped wing Cub. I am considering building another 1/4 scale Cub with a full wing and going electric power. The plane will weigh approx 16 lbs(my clipped wing weighs 14.5 with 120 4-stroke) and will be detailed out. I would want to turn a 18" prop for scale appearance. What would be the best motor/battery/speed controller combination to use on this plane. I am wanting15+ minute flight times.

How about an AXI 5330/24 or AXI 5330/F3A with 90 amp speed controller.

A 5330/18 can turn an APCE 20X10 at about 170W on 8S ~3500 LiPo
You can install an 18" prop for scale and still have plenty of power. Probably 10+ min flight time.

A friend of mine fly his 1/4-scale SuperCub with appr 2600 Watt in. With this power he tows gliders at 2,5kilo with VS at 2,6 meters...
He use a Cyklon160-motor on 10S FlightPower.
So (if feathermerchant meant 1700W, not 170...) this is enough for normal flying.

We converted a Hangar9 SuperCub 96" wingspan with:
Hacker C50 12XL acro geared 6.7:1
Jeti 90 ESC
Thunderpower 10s 10,000 mAh lipos hooked up in series
17 lbs AUW
19" APC Prop
She flies with authority. Not a lot of vertical. We're replacing the stock aluminum bar stock gear with the custom Robart hinged shock absorbing type undercarriage and that should help. We might repower with a new AXI 5345/16 with its 4000 watt spec...to the MOON Alice!
