I have the Dubro Propeller Balancer. What is the best way to remove the heavy end? They are the GWS EP1060 Props.
Would it be wise to use a prop that has a Nick in it. Thanks:)

Don't used damaged props. Add weight to the lighter end, instead of sanding or grinding the heavier end. Tape or paint work well for this.

Thanks John, excellant advice. I was told to sand off the trailing edge, that just did not make sense. I like the tape and paint idea. Thanks John.:) Armound:)

You can sand off the trailing edge if you don't need to remove too much.
As far as nicks, it just depends on what it is. A small dent won't hurt anything. A piece broken out of it is bad.:)

Hi Duster52, Thanks for the input. The nick in the prop is not to bad, no broken piece. Thanks again.:)

If you use the tape method, just use Scotch tape on the aft side of the prop as close to the hub as you can:D

Right, wrong, or otherwise, I always use scotch tape on the back of the prop and out towards the end, not the hub. The further out you place the tape, the less tape you need for it to ballance. Never had it come off yet.

Any inputs on how important prop balancing is for a SS?

I'm guessing the longer the propeller and/or the higher RPM, the more important balancing is.

Perhaps you bring a box of pre-balanced props when flying, so any prop damage can be replaced with a known good one. Or is it that critical?

I saw a nifty $20 magnetic balancer setup, but not sure if it's that important. I've also read to use the gear-shaft-setup for balancing, but I'm going with brushless outrunner. Just saying NO to gearboxes!

Thanks,
Jim Marconnet

Hi Jim, Thank you for your input. I purchased just the gear box for the SS balanced the SS prop as suggested here on the form. Both the Dubro and the gear box are very close. Thanks again Jim.:)
