So you like the idea of an "Old Timer" but the 80" Lanzo Bomber" didn't fit into your plans...or your car?
Never fear, there's a bunch of scaled-down classic designs available, both in kit and plan form. Many of these are SAM-eligible or can be flown in the popular Texaco event. They are teriffic sport or park flyers, either with inexpensive brushed motors and NiMh batteries, or for the more competitive types, brushless and LiPos. Either way, Old Timers are FUN!
Spirit Of Yesteryear http://www.soy.on.ca/Plane2.html (http://www.soy.on.ca/Plane2.html)has some great designs in the "Speed 400" size, laser-cut kits. The Viking (50" ws) Playboy (50.5"), Dallaire Sportster (52"), Buzzard Bombshell (46.5") Satin Doll (41-3/8") Airborne + Atomizer (no wingspan provided for these two, but recommended power is a 1/2A or "400" electric).
Want something a bit smaller? Well Peck-Polymers is selling the hard-to-find R/N Models line of 5/8th scale O/T's, these will fly very well on a GWS IPS brushed motor or one of the micro brushless motors. http://www.peck-polymers.com/html/kits/rnotkits.htm
These include the Playboy Sr. (36" w.s.), Strato Streak (33"), So Long (32"), Clipper MK II (32"), Brooklyn Dodger (32") and several rubber-powered O/Ts that could easily be converted.
There's many more plan and kit sources on the sticky, or go here;

Join the fun!
