For a Hobbyzone Super Cub:

Aside from losing a steerable tail wheel, if one was to fix the rudder in place and use the servo for ailerons:

1. What do you lose in flying the plane?
2. What do you gain in flying the plane?
3. Considering the above, would you recommend this mod?

In short

1. Turns would be different: you'd have to bank the plane then pull up elevator

2. If you make the ailerons large enough you could do rolls

3. I would not do it: there are better planes to fly with ailerons

If you're going to go to the trouble to do an aileron mod on your SuperCub, don't bother trying to do it with the stock electronics.

Go buy yourself a decent 4+ channel radio and receiver, swap out the stock electronics and servos, and then go ahead and add your ailerons. Then you'll have full control of your aircraft, and you'll have made an investment in the hobby by buying electronics you'll be able to use on future planes.

There's plenty of threads out there on this and other boards now describing the aileron mod.

I was asking out of curiosity - I thought about doing an article on this for http://www.ampaviators.com (http://www.ampaviators.com/), but I hesitate to publish anything that may not be in the reader's best interests - after some further thought on this topic, this is one that I'm not comfortable with.

I ditched the stock gear - replaced with DX7.
