View Full Version : IPS gearbox on 10mm stick?

I've got a Medusa brushless motor that I've been running on a small wing and I love it. I'd like to stick it in a gearbox and put it in my Mountain Models Cessna 180. I hate brushed motors so I modified the Cessna when I built it with a 10mm stick and I run a Himax 2015-3600 in it. It flies great but I'd like to drop the weight and go with the geared Medusa. Is there an IPS gearbox that has a 10mm mounting or are they all the smaller stick size?

All 5x8MM I'm afraid.

All 5x8MM I'm afraid.

Shoot! I guess I'll have to make some sort of adapter plate to mount it in the EPS gearbox then. Thanks for the info.

Why not go with an EPS-100 (280) geared set? They are often cheap on sale at places like Todd's Models. I think I paid less than $6 each for the last three I got there. Only weighs 9/10 of an ounce more than the IPS.

I'm not interested in using a brushed motor. I want to use the Medusa 12mm motor.

Just shave down the last inch the present stick to 5mm x 8mm?

Phil,

I considered that but it's inside the cowl on the C-180. Pretty fragile airframe and with my fumble fingers I'd crush the whole thing. I may try soaking the stick with de-bonder a few times. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll come out.
It's not a must do but it would be nice to see how much better she'd fly after shaving about 3 ounces off it. I've been using a 2S 450mah pack with the Medusa and get 13 minutes direct drive in the wing. In a gearbox it should fly for a couple of days! I was flying the 2015-3600 with 2S TP 900's.
