Can the horizontial stabilizer of the Tower Hobbies --Lifoam 4.5' glider be cut in 1/2 to form ?? flying elevons ?? Left and right powered by a 2 servo mixer setup to give, up-down and a banking turn ?
It would simplify, for me, a lot of things with pull-pull control.
I cut and tube bearinged it so they can move seperately. Is there a bad side to this type of control form?
Thanks
Hello Cyclops,
you could of course do this. Just make your linkages slop free and use some good servos ;)
It probably won't bank very quickly but controll should be possible, you'll just have to try...

I think some jet fighters (the real ones) have full flying split elevators.

Pilot.
Does the full elevators give enough control for simple control ? Sport type ?

When I said "full flying elevator" that means there is no stabilizer and elevator. The entire horizontal tail surface moves. It gives you incredible control authority which is a big bonus at slow speed and high angles of attack. It may provide too much control authority at higher speeds.

Like the F4 Phantom tail ? That is what I want to copy.

Be careful with a full flying stab. The only thing that holds the stab in a stable attitude is the bell crank that actuates it. Any slop in the control linkages can be very bad. With the increased size of the control surface, any slop will more easily lead to flutter, which can cost you a plane.
If you are careful, these can be really cool.
