Computerized Battery Analyzer
produced by West Mountain Radio. It requires a PC to operate it. An excellent tool for the elctric flyer or anyone that wants to get more data on their battery packs.

i wonder, can we have another sticky that shows the ''best'' packs in terms of the cba graph, and their cost, weight and dimensions next to them?...i.e. have it as a kind of ''live'' reference so that when new graphs come aboard it gets updated?

Very impressive graphs and charts, though my experience with Thunder Power since this was posted has been less than exemplary.

Too many failures with their products makes them too expensive for my wallet. They have not lived up to their claims, especially the "Made in U.S.A." (when the cells are made in Asia), and safe discharge rates (both continuous & burst) as printed on their labels. I hate to speculate as to what other claims made by them are less than truthful.

Longevity with that product is non existent as three other additional T/P packs are following tin the footsteps fo the failed ones. Three of the failed packs had less than 50 cycles on them, they refuse to take a charge. They were discharged at less than 40% their safe C rated manufacturer specifications, and charged at 70% of 1C. It's the same routine I follow with all my Li-Pos.

On the other hand, Kokam, TPEs and others are still performing nicely even though they are much older than my failed Thunder Powers.

A thread that gives a synopsis of any lipo submitted by a vendor or manufacturer at it's advertised maximum continuous rating is under advisement. It is also under advisement to give the thread owner moderating authority for restricting the thread to graphs and other cell data only, with a separate, non-stickied thread for discussion. Personally, I wouldn't be in favor of a ranking system, since applications are so diverse. For example, I liked my old Kokam 3270s and now like my TrueRC 4000s, because I can fly them "all day" in a 48" foamy wing- Astroflight 010-gearbox combo with a huge prop. So, my "best" surely wouldn't be a helicopter guy's best.
Cost (price) also would be problematical, since there is no manufacturer's list price for most eflight LiPos.

With respect to my own graphs here in this thread, most contain dimension and weight data. The list is current as of today, and I will update it as I finish each graph I publish.

ok...fair enough....but i was thinking more along the lines of comparing same with same...i.e. where the mah's were identical.

but your rationale is fine by me...please join me in utopia...its nice here...lol.

A lot of illuminating data in the last post - Thanks, Rod.

The temperature data is the most conprehensive and authoritative I know of, documenting the temperature difference between the inside and the outer surface of a LiPo pack.

The new little Impulse Powers look like progress. As I unferstand it from your posting elsewhere, they appeared at a LHS in the U.K. and are relatively low-priced. Hope they show up elsewhere in the world.

if i ever get the time id like to see a tabular version of these graphs so all can be seen on one spreadsheet..

i.e. manufacturer, capacity, v under load, discharge rating for 3.3V in a column with ''yes/no'' respectively to the various rates of 10C,12C,15C,20C, and temp.

then a column with price perhaps.

kinda like a go no go chart for easy reference and a bit easier to view than every graph superimposed over each other.

maybe i can do a quick one and get everyone's opinion of it?

(do we have a volunteer for tabulating Tim?)

errr...yeah!...lol...

send me the tables and ill import them into msaccess and do some queries n stuff...

i am mindful to not compare apples to oranges....its more of an at a glance comparison as opposed to the graphs which are far more accurate but more difficult to assess all at once.

This tabulation presents the data which is of interest to the battery user [rather than to the tester].

Months to a year. Although it is not the best idea to store ones lipos with a full charge, I had a pack that I had charged a year ago (oops!) and it was reading fully charged still so I used it when I found out. Always nice to be in the air. :)

The attachment below shows how the performance of many packs can be presented for comparison in a compact format.

To be of value, such tables would have to include most available packs, and new products should be added with little delay.

For this example I extracted the scource data from reports published by RC-Tester and by elektromodellflug. It's not comprehensive, and it's probably well out-of-date already.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of the headings in the table may look unfamiliar. They are chosen to provide the most-effective comparison between packs.

Only simple arithmetic is required to convert the listed values into more-familiar parameters, such as..... current.....capacity....power per pack....energy per pack....[at the stated run times].

i think peter, if you can sort the batteries into groups of similar sizes, then that would help alot also.

This project will succeed only if it is supported by at least one of our prolific testers.

Many questions in the forums indicate the need for something like this, but I get the impression that few recognise the solution when it is placed before them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Much tedious handwork went into my small table. The process needs to be computerised.

If the CBA software were developed to output these numbers we might see lots of postings.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
How to present it in WattFlyer? .........My suggestions......
