Hi i need some advice as to how big my ailerons should be?

I have a wing that spans 36in with a cord of 5in

The area of the wing is 180in/sq

Keep in mind that the 3 1/2in mid section of the wing is taken by the fusulage

That leaves a 16.5in wing on each side.

The wing is intended to be used for a trainer type aircraft.

How big my ailerons should in terms of lenth and width any advice?

Thank you Tom

3/4" chord might be all you need.

That's the easiest way to do them and works very well.

will thanks for the link
it says the aileron area should be at 12percent of the wing area. I think i will go with that one.

If you can get yourself a copy of Andy Lennon's book Basics of R/C Model Aircraft Design, it would be well worth it to spend the money on it. Lot's of great info, especially if you plan on designing your own planes.

you are right Frank i always keep puting it off. I always wanted to buy it from the first time i saw it in the AMA magazine. But it turnes out the 3/4in ailerons worked fine can be a little bigger ofcourse
