I have a scratch built balsa Mig-15, that was supposed to be edf, but flopped. I want to convert it to a pusher, but I'm not sure what motor to go with. The plane has a 26 inch wing span, and weighs 8.5 oz's with servo's and receiver installed. I'm not sure on what the wing area is, but it's your typical small area Mig wings. I've already tried to put a Mega 16/15/3 and large 3 cell lipo in it, but couldn't get it to balance without adding 6 oz's of lead to the nose. It ended up weighing in at a hugely overweight 25 oz's. Obviously, that is not gonna work out. I can only imagine what the wing loading on that would have been like. It's a shame, cause holy smokes did it have power, and I'm sure it would've went like a rocket!!
So, my question here is do you guys have any suggestions on what to use as a motor/prop combo? I guess I'm going for something lightweight. I have 3 cell 1500 Kokam, and a 2 cell Apogee 1650 lipo that I thought might work out with something. How about the IPS sized motors? Feigao has a 5800 rpm/volt version. Is this too light weight of a motor?Perhaps a Himaxx 2015-5400? I don't know, what do you guys think here?

Have you considered modifying it to accept the motor up front? May not look as cool on the ground but once in the air no one will ever notice the motor on the nose. It will also certainly be properly balanced in addition to being lighter.

I appreciate the advice. I've allready cut the rudder to clear the prop on the back, and was pretty much wanted to stick with the "pusher" style on this one. I suspect the Himaxx 2015-5400 is gonna be a good choice on this project.

HiJZ.

The 5400 is far too high a kv for a pusher, unless you can find a motor thatll handle 40A +.

Go for something in the 2500-2500kv range and capable of at least 20A.

I suspect your prop size will be around 4.5 x 4 or so.
