Hello Peter, Welcome to Wattflyer! The Model Airplane News plan service ("RC Store") has a listing for Bill Northrup's design here;
http://www.rcstore.com/rs/general/detail.asp?catnum=fsp11652&catego=PL
This is a big model, 70" wingspan, 45" length, .65 glow engine. Plan set, 2 sheets, $ 19.95, # FSP 11652.
I also found reference to a couple of Model Builder plan sets (Model Builder was the magazine Bill started after he left M.A.N.) in the July 1972 M/B and the Nov. 1978 M/B. I don't have a link to the plans from M/B but he sometimes advertises in Quiet Flyer. http://www.geocities.com/dmlivesay/modelbuilder.html Under both "R/C Scale" and "3-Views".
Here's an article on a giant scale (99" wingspan) D-4-D and reference to M/B plans. http://www.fly-imaa.org/imaa/hfarticles/plans/v4-1-8a.html.
If you google "Travel Air 2000 4000" you'll find lots of photos but very few plan sets. Good Luck!
Ron
