Hi guys,

Iam building from the scratch P-47 about 1 m wingspan Since I have only small Futaba radio with 2 servos and ESC and AXI motor Iam contemplating to hook the aileron servo proportionally to rudder ae 25% of movement of the ailerons. (may be also incorporate a tail wheel steering)After flying for 40 years big aeroplanes and fighters I thing that it will produce a nice Rate one turn. Any comments will sure help.:D
Thanks,
Jan

Hi Jan,

The best way would be to remove the rudder control altogether. It isnt really needed except for ground steering perhaps.

I know that for the actual flight it will be ok, but what is really concerning me is that I will be using a 4 bladed prop and even with reduced power on the take off there is going to be a tremendous torque and I estimate quiet large P factor. So I was thinkig if the rudder can a little help to contra act the previous. What do you think?

sorry mate, iddnt mean to sound condescending.

i think that the amount of rudder movement youll need on the ground will be much more than in the air, so no single coupling will suit both scenarios.

perhaps go for a rudder/elevator design (no ailerons) and you'll be fine. just increase the wing dihedral a bit so that she is stable enough...even raise the wing root a little also.

Other than that, you'll need an extra channel.

Jan if your transmitter can mix the function you can add another servo and mix the aileron to rudder. Most modern trasmitters allow this.

You will ahve to have a 4ch receiver as well. Works great and I use this mix on 3 planes.

If you dont want to do that, you can get a "Y" cable and connect both the airleron and rudder servos to the same control. Then use the mechanical linkage to give you the correct amount of rudder throw.

Jan,

Several planes have successfully used that design (most commonly lightweight indoor flyers). Though it does somewhat coordinate turns, it messes with rolls. Just depends on what kind of flying you're going to do.
