Just finnished the Watage Crazy 8. Flew the maiden today. Flies nice on a mega 16/15/5, TP 3s 2100 gen 2 pack, phx 25. I'm running a 9x4.5 apc eprop. Too much for the esc/battery. Will go to a 8x4. As for the kit, it was good news, bad news. The build went well until it came time to mount the wing. I couldn't get the wing to sit square and secure at the same time. I finally decided to glue it in place. Worked great. Here are some pictures.

I've thought about this airplane in the past. The 6 turn Mega is probably really pushing that battery...do you know how much current you are drawing at WOT?

I never got to full throttle. The wattmeter was showing 24 amps at half throttle, so I just stopped there. My local hobby shop has gone down the tubes, so I'll have to mail order a different prop. Motocalc says that a 8x4 should pull about 22 amps at WOT. I've flown the plane two days in a row. It seems to fly nicely as a pattern plane. I'll continue to dial it in and let you folks know how it runs. By the way, I mistakenly Id'ed the motor as a 6 turn, its a 5 turn.

The five turn draws even more current than a 6-turn. Overall, you would be better off with a motor drawing less current and a larger prop. But, sometimes you got to go with what you have.

Remember your speed controller sees the full throttle amperage. The most I would go for on the 5 turn with 3s is a 7x5 apc-e. I have run one with that setup and it does great.
You are going to let the magic smoke out of your esc, battery and or motor! Prop it down, you will still be happy, and your equipment won't smoke.

I run a 7x5 on a Great Planes Slinger. I've found a 8x4. I'll try that and let you folks know what the numbers are. I just ordered a bunch of props from E Cubed RC. It sucks when you can't go down to the local shop from some props.

As I recall the 7x5 on 3s 2220 Tanics was about 18-19 amps. The 8x4 will likely be 20-21. That is all I would put in the 5 turn mega.....
Let us know...

Flew the Crazy 8 with the 8x4 prop. Flies like a champ. I don't know if my wing mounting problems were a one off deal or is a problem with the entire run of kits. Gluing the wing and belly pan on has worked great so far.

I doubt your wing fit problem was unique. I had the same problem with mine. The wing just would not fit properly, much less being able to bolt it down. I had to modified so much in order to get it to fit that I ended getting mad over that little quirk and put it aside for two weeks, then came back and finished the modification. It fits properly now.
I spent more time on that wing fit than assembling the rest of the plane including radio installation I don't think I'll eve get another one of their models.

How many amps is that pulling with 3s?

At full throttle, it was 25 amps but quickly dropped to 21 amps.

It least I have a couple of things to fall back on.
1. I don't fly full throttle often
2. 25 amps is within the burst spec for the battery (15C)
3. I'm breaking in the Prolites. They will be better suited for the plane.
4. I do have smaller props to go to, if I need to.
