Looking for advice re: airbrushes. What have you all found to be useful for general modeling...I don't think I'll be doing exotic detailing like on "Orange Counter Chopper"...just want something that I can use for scale RC airplanes...add some detail and general painting...

thanks

Thanks for the quick replies....not as scary as I'd thought $$'wise!

On the compressor side of things, my preference would be for one with an attached tank:

With the tank, the pump won't be running all the time you're airbrushing, so less noise.

Unless you have a pretty good sized tank it'd still be running most of the time because of the volume of air going through an airbrush.

dox, you can spend about twenty bucks and get an airbrush that sprays some paints not so well and some so-so or you can spend about sixty five on an Iwata and and have a wonderful tool. I started out with a couple of Badger 150s which are relatively inexpensive and when a friend gave me an Iwata I found out just how nice an airbrush they truly are.

Where on Earth did you find an Iwata for about $65? I spent about $80 on my Badger 155 Anthem, after shopping around quite a bit. Unless, of course, you mean used. FWIW, the Anthem works well for me, it's kind of a "jack of all trades" airbrush; I'm sure there are others better for certain tasks, but I like the versatility to spray different mediums without changing needles, and it seems to work pretty well for my uses.

Here you go. $64.97 for the top feed, that's the one I have, and $59.97 for the bottom feed and that would be new.;)
I like the .5mm needle in this brush because of it's versatility.

Wow--not bad at all. Thanks! I'll keep that in mind if I ever wear out my Badger.

I think your Anthem is a far superior a/b than the 150s I had. I was totally unhappy with the way the 150 sprayed Createx acrylic paint so I went with the Iwata because I had read so many good reviews on them. It sprays Createx at 50 psi without thinning it if you want to and overall is a great little airbrush.

Since we're on the subject of airbrushes. I made this tool for holding my airbrush while painting. It's similar in basic design to most any other holder but where mine differs is that the black delrin cup at the top that holds the airbrush has a blind hole where it mounts to the aluminum rod that fits into the old lamp clamp. That allows me to fill it with cleaner/solvent so the tip of the airbrush always stays wet.
