View Full Version : What am I doing wrong?

I've got quite a few maxamps lipos. My older 1500 3s are still going strong. My older 3s 2100 15C is still very strong. Both my 2100HV 3s batteries have fewer cycles and are toast. As a matter of fact, the 15C 2100s put out more juice! I ran them in parallel on a 3s2p configuration in a single 75mm ducted fan that draws 32 amps and each pack still puffed a
cell. This setup should be good for up to 84 amps continuous discharge. ?? When I ran them in my twin 75mm fan F-22, they got pretty warm really quick. Funny that I ran a pair of 2100 15C and the results were about the same, which to me sounds right for the 15C lipos but not the 20s.

All my lipos are charged conservatively at 1 amp.
All are balanced after each cycle.
All are used in applications that draw less amps than the constant discharge rating of the lipos.
All applications have a 3V per cell LVC and even then, I don't fly to LVC... I land early.

Am I expecting too much from the 2100HV cells? What am I missing? These latest lipos just don't seem any better than the older ones. By contrast, I have a 1550HV 3s that is stronger than the older 1500 15Cs that I still use, it's the 2100s that seem weak.

Am I doing something wrong?

Let see if this is right.....you puffed a cell in each of your 2100HV's......correct? Can you tell me when you purchased them? And just to clarify you parralleled two 2100HV's and not a 2100 15C with a 2100HV. Also did you purchase the 3yr/300cycle warranty? Also what brand charger are you using?

Yes, each 2100HV pack now is a puffer. :blah:
I can't tell you exactly when I purchased them, I cannot find the info. What I can tell you is that I purchased them not long after their intro, they still had the old labels. I questioned Austin about the lack of designation identifying them as the 20C cells, the labels were changed right after that. I was really paranoid about mixing them up so I marked them personally before use. I didn't purchase the additional warranty, I didn't think I would need them based on the previous performance of the maxamps cells that I was already using. My charger is a Multiplex LN-2010. It has performed perfectly on all my other maxamps and polyquest lipos, only the 2100HV batteries are affected. My 1550HV 3s is still going like a champ. I suspect a bad batch of cells. I originally purchased two 2100 packs, one went "pop" in mid flight on a fast f-16 that crashed out of sight in a swamp. The other one that wasn't on board that flight was already splitting on the tab end. I was not a happy camper and Austin stepped up and replaced them both. Even though he came though initially, I still don't think the batch was that great from the start. I was getting better performance from the 15C 2100s that I already had. ?? I looked into getting the older 15c packs but evidently the newer cells have replaced those. :{ it's bittersweet. Some have been great, some have been ...... well...... pfft.

Are they 2 yrs old? 1 yr old? six months? If you can get me close to a time of purchase it will help to determine if there may have been some issues at that time. Seeing that you had dealt with Austin in the past I will forward this to him on Monday also.

Best guess is less than 6 months.

Hold on a second you last replied on 5-19-07 and I then asked if you could call the shop and talk with Austin or Clint number is toll free 888-654-4450. You never replied back until now. As far as e-mail goes the company gets hundreds of e-mails a day and this is not an excuse but some get overlooked. That is why I wanted you to call them directly. It's up to you Joe1320 if you don't want to call then I can't make you. The ball is in your hand, I'm here to help. If you feel you can only do this thru e-mail then send it to austin@maxamps.com I will send him an e-mail to keep an eye out for an e-mail from Joe1320.

The reason I sent an e-mail was to provide detailed information spelled out in black and white rather than: What charger? What rate of Charge? What power systems are you running? What flight time? When did you buy them? What cooling provided to the batteries?...... and so on. Evidently calling is required and requested, I will do so on Thursday.
