We just sailed through the 15,000 registered member milestone here at Wattflyer.com! There are now 15,000 WattHeadZ here that have come one and come all for the joy of rc electric flight.

Thanks everyone for spreading the word about our little place in cyberspace here and for your support.

Wattflyer is the largest website dedicated ONLY to eflight and nothing else.

Many members have been inquiring about getting hats and t-shirts with the new wattflyer logo on it to show their support. We are in the process of getting the schwag embroidered and printed. Once they are ready to ship in another week or so we'll post the info.

100% of Wattflyer's share of the profits for all schwag sold will be going to several animal rights and rescue charities (all 501c3 registered) to help pets/animals that are in much more need of the money then we are.

Hello, my name is Stinkweed007 and Im a Wattaholic...

(Hi Stinkweed)

My addiction is now so deep that I told my gal last night that we couldnt watch a movie together because I had WattFlyer stuff to do...

She enables me.. and is a bad influence on my addiction because she made me small sandwiches with little bratwursts and a cold beer and brought them on a little TV dinner tray and put it next to my desk.

Then gave me a back rub when I was done..

I am not Watt-sober.. and dont think I ever will be.

Way to go Stinkweed!

Thats outstanding.

My better half is starting to dislike wattflyer. She got a hold of the credit card statment the other day and saw all the items listed under "pay pal"

gulp

Oh well, beter take her shooping or something...

Silly guy, letting her get ahold of those important documents.....

Also, what is "shooping"? ;)

Last night, I figured out a way to get around her looks regarding purchases for my addiction....I just tell the wife I am getting something for her dad to play with. She caught on rather quickly though, and even suggested her dad may do the same with his wife. "Oh, I am just getting this for Kev......." LOL

THAT is smart thinking Kev. Get the father in law in the action! Well done.

I told her once that these "planes" will be good for our daughter to get into aviation and it's a thing we can both share together. It didn't go over so well cause my daughter is only 6 months old but I tried.

Another one of my favorites is (honey, this airplane only costs 18 bucks!) She doesn't know the motor/ESC was 30, the receiver was 50, Lipos was another 50 and the charger was 75)

When you get a good computer radio Aviator Dave had a great line. It may be $200.00 but really its just 10 cents a day for the next 10 years or so. AND it can be reused.

And my favorite of all is get another plane, hide it from the wife/girlfriend for a while..... then take it out one day. When she asks about it, tell her its the same plane you've been flying, you just made a few "mods" to it and painted it hehe I think Gary said that one.

It used to work out good when I told my wife that the latest plane I bought was for Kyle (my son). The trouble started when she wanted to know why Kyle's planes are always in my garage and Kyle never plays with them. Then she talked to Kyle and he told her "I don't want to play with any of Daddy's planes".

Busted! :red:

By the way, the best investment I ever made was to buy a shredder and shred all the receipts. If she only knew how much I spent! ::o

I haven't actually tried that one - yet. Fortunately my wife doesn't pay that much attention to my planes to notice a new one.

Yeah, he's good at that. I have to be very careful what I say around him. He repeats everything to my wife!

The Spit looks great! I told myself I have to wait to put it together until after I build the Hyperion 24e Cub I bought last March so of course I'm scrambling to get the Cub together. The spit does have a steerable tail wheel as well as the retracts. About the only thing I can think of that it lacks is flaps but I hear it really doesn't need them. I think it would help the scale looks part though. It also lacks things like the radiator and supercharger scoops underneath, cannons and gun ports, but I'll make something for those. I really like the Hyperion 25e warbirds. I want to get the P-51, P-40, BF109 (when they come out) and the Japanese Hayate eventually. Doubt I will get them all though. I have to remind myself what they each cost!

My next plane ios going to be a Hyperion, from what i've read they are great.

Can you build those warbirds without the retracts? And just have the gear on?

I need a steerable tailwheel. Call me crazy but I LOVE to just taxi my SuperCub around a parking lot. I think its a lot of fun. Plus there is nothing like landing and taxing the plane to yourself.

I think ill probably go with the 25e Sukhoi. I heard its better to spend the extra money and go 25 size instead of 10 :)

what do you think?

gsk11740

I've heard from several people who have been in R/C for many years that the 25e size is going to be the "next big thing". If the cost of larger Li-Po batteries ever comes down to a resonable price, I think the larger scale planes will really take off (no pun intended  ). Really, the batteries aren't a problem since I can just hook up two of my existing 3s 2100's in parallel and go that way.

As for the landing gear, I have to cut out the covering over the LG holes to install the retracts, so it can be built minus the gear or I can install the gear and just lock it in place so it stays down all the time or of course, add a retract servo and have them operational.

I know I've been saying this for ages now but I really do need to find another place to fly. It just seems silly to have the retracts and I can't use them in the field I fly in. I can only hand launch and belly land. They are about to cut the hay in the field behind me so I'm about to get run out anyway but also it annoys me to no end that I have never learned to taxi, take off and land on the wheels! I have a neighbor who is a teacher at the local High School and he says he's sure I can fly behind the school on weekends. It's a huge area with really short cut grass and a running track. Sounds perfect!

Well, I know I'm way off topic but just to follow up on my posts about the Spitfire, the maiden was a disaster and I'm looking at a pile of busted up fiberglass and balsa that I'm going to attempt to patch back together.

The CG was WAY off. It's supposed to be 75-80mm back from the leading edge. I checked it using that CG Machine I foolishly bought last Winter. I've found it to be very inaccurate twice before now. I forgot that it's already almost cost me one plane and used it in the Spitfire. Most others that have this plane have their battery packs almost right up against the motor. Mine was 3 1/2 to 4 inches back! If I had to guess, my true CG was probably closer to 120-140mm. The plane flew like it had a brick tied to it's tail and by the time I figured out what was going on, it had already stalled and went into a spin that I couldn't recover from. I heard it solidly hit the ground in the adjoining field, 300 yards away. It hit that hard!

I've been looking over the damage and thought I might be able to fix it but I just looked again in much better light and there are so many cracks and breaks in the fiberglass fuse that now I'm not so sure. Even if I could patch the damage, I don't think I could match the paint so it would look like hell. Might be better off to just get another kit and save the remaining parts for spares.

By the way, the "CG Machine" is now in the Prince William County landfill!

Well at least we got that many.

http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28122

I suspect we won't see more than 100-150 total votes. That's why it is hard to glean good info from polls. But still worth the effort I suppose.

Maybe the poll is 100% accurate - I'm not an AMA member and neither are ANY of the several dozen guys I fly with.

He's talking about the entire 16,528 WF membership. Only 48 so far have even voted. That's only .002% of WattFlyer members. Hard to get a consensus vote of the majority like that.
