Fellow fliers,

Aside from the big Cessna, I'm also planning to convert to EP a .60 Katana from UltraRC http://ultra-rc.com/katana50/

Plane specs:
Wingspan: 53”
Wing Area: 500 sq. in.
Ready-to-fly weight: 4.75 – 5.5 lbs. (engine-powered)
Length: 51”

This bird can do good 3d on a YS .63 engine as shown in the videos, I am planning to use AXIs on it.

Any of these a good combo to do 3D?

AXI 2826/08 with Jeti 70amp -
For 8 to 12 NiCad/NiMh cells, 2-4 LiPoly cells. RPM/V 1130, Resistance: 30 mOhms, I Zero 2.8A, Max. current allowable: 50A/60 sec., Max. efficiency current is 25-37A.

OR

AXI 2826/10 with Jeti 40amp - For 10 to 16 cells, 3 to 5 LiPoly. RPM/V: 870, Resistance: 42 mOhms, I Zero: 1.7A, Max. current allowable: 42A/60 sec., Max. efficiency current is 20 to 30A.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Shaun

Shuan a 2826 won't give you enough power...

I would go for a 4120/18 on 5s lipo. With a APC-E 16x8 you have 3,7kg of thrust @ 55 amps. That is about 1,5/1 thrust/weight. I have this setup on my H9 Funtana S40. Power is very good for 3D.

Lipos are kokam 3200HD, ESC is a CC Phönix 60.

Hi

Thanks for the tip. I looked at the 4120/18 on the hobbylobby site and it's rated to give out 511 watts only on 16 cells. I thought I would be needing around 150 watts per pound to do 3D so that would mean around 830-850 watts total.

My Katana is about the same size as your Funtana, I also have read the thread about it, was actually going to PM you :) I'm figuring the AUW on mine will be around 5.5lbs which is also around your Funtana.

Are you able to do 3D on your setup? All maneuvers? How's the power and recovery? Coz if you are, I won't have to think anymore and just copy yours if that's alright with you (imitation is the best form of flattery) :)

Cheers,
Shaun

Power is acutally more than enough! With the APC-E 16x8 you have a bit more than 900w power in. Even with a APC-E 15x8 on 5s you still have 3,45Kg of thrust and 770w power in. Looking at the thrust figure the 15x8 would be good for about 1,4/1 thrust/weight.
But you know... if you can have more for the same weight why not?:D

At the moment I'm working on the SFG's and a sturdier carbon landing gear. Hope to test next weekend.

Cool, looks like this setup is a winner. Do you happen to have any videos of your plane on this setup doing some 3D?

Btw, where online did you get the 4120/18 and your ESC? (looking for a bargain)

Found the 4120/18 and Jeti 70plus combo for $245 - know any site that offers them lower?

Thanks!

I got the equipment from http://www.eflight.ch (http://www.eflight.ch/) I doubt you'll get a better deal from them because you would have all the shipping from Switzerland ;)

The problem is I don't have a video camera... I could make a video with the photo camera but quality won't be much... Anyway it should give the idea :D

yeah that would indeed cost more if it came from switzerland :)

any video will do, just want to see the power setup in 3d action!
:)

thanks in advance,
