Finally killed my Formosa Sunday, flew right into the boom on a backhoe and not only broke the fuselage in two (been repaired a number of times) but I put a nice sized dent in the leading edge of the wing where it hit the ram so I figured it's time for a new one.
Found a LHS within 30 miles Sunday night that has them so I figured I'd take a drive up there this Saturday and pick one up along with a few other items. Went to get directions tonight from thier site and noticed they are out of stock on the slope glider.
Found another LHS a bit further away and they too are out of the slope glider.
Checked Tower and THEY TOO are out of the slope glider!!

Seems like the only places that has the Formosa slope glider in stock are on or near the left coast and I was trying to avoid the high shipping cost for a kit.

I would be surprised if the things were not out of stock due to the soon to be released Formosa II.

HMMM!

If it looks like a DUCK, walks like a DUCK & quacks like a DUCK, then it must be a DUCK!

Many R/Cers are going the slope glider version with most GWS's planes. They save money on that stupid gearbox, which is where I have been told GWS makes their money (replacement parts). That $15 - $20 savings are put toward a nice B/L motor that turns the lowly, humble looking Formosa into a roaring tiger and every one is going after them. Spectacular performer when so modified.

I saw a GWS E-Starter after its original motor/gearbox had been replaced by a B/L type. Not the same plane in the least. Quite a nice performer.

Can you talk your LHS into ordering you one? Most of them will do so and have it in stock for you in a few days.

I can order (well backorder that is) one on their site but what fun would that be?
Was looking forward to actualy being able to walk around an honest to goodness hobby shop for a change and even though the price of gas is coming down I'm not going to make the trip if they don't have what I want.:(

I can't blame you.

No longer do I measure distance in miles. My new measurement method is: "how much gas will it cost me to get there and back?"

I used to go my favorite LHS daily, then cut back to four times a week. Now I go there on Saturday afternoons, and that is if they have in stock what I need.

I call them to see if they have something I want, if they have it, I'll drive there. If not they order it and I get it three days later (if I want it bad), or get it the following Saturday.

Formosa slope glider, has been backordered to us since last August. Formosa II has been back order almost as long.

Why the long delay, GWS moved or was trying to move thier plant to Mainland China. Mainland China had some requirements that would stop the formosa. They couldn't take thier already prepared molds to Mainland China.

Not sure if the problem ever got worked out. Should, I hope, have the slope glider and the II's in stock shortly after they hit the shore. We'll give them a little time to unpack. 8 hours or so:)
