Ken I have had them, and they are good 3'd 'ers. I'd beef up the lower fuse as it will get torn up. Some simple packing tape works wonders along that bottom edge.

I have move along to the other Yak...

And it seems to hold up just a tad better, but also is a bit heavier.
Either way, they are fun foamies 4 sure.

I originally bought two of them. When they went to $14 this past Monday, I ordered six more! Might even get me a few more. Same with the Esskay 400XT outrunner for $24.90, can't beat that price!

The Yaks are 6mm Depron, beautifully printed in bright colors and perfectly cut. They go together rather quickly and very nicely. Flies extremely well on low rates and it 3Ds like there was no tomorrow on high.

Being thicker walled, it doesn't suffer from the "tail twisting" some other ones are famous for. You know, doing a torque roll with the tail following the fuselage 1/8 of a turn behind schedule?

Just have to hope for another sale:rolleyes:
Was actually kind of wierd though. I was in the middle of ordering online when evidently the sale ended and my cart price changed lol.

Sorry Ken,

I was just in the process of getting to their sale page to "get another batch" when I found out the Esskay 400XTs are back up to $29.90 (still a bargain) and the Yaks were nowhere to be found there. Too bad!!!

HMMM! You are right.

They were not there on that page when I visited it 'round 4:35 this evening. Could it have been a cyber glitch? They didn't have as many items there at that time as they do now.

Anyway, at $19.90 they are still a bargain, though at $14 they were an absolute steal!!!

It's kewl. I will just transplant my Hacker 20/22L into the Super Zoom as far as motors go.
And the plane, bleh..at 20.00 I rather spend another 10.00 and grab another indistructable EPP 28" heheh and it's feather light and bash it around with my cheap cdrom motor.
If the plane goes on sale for 14.00 sometime, I may grab one, but right now I am way to abusive for anything besides EPP:p

The Hobby Lobby Yak even at $20.00 is the best bargain out there in it's class. The design is robust, goes together quick, and flys really well.

I'm with you.

I have four of them and love them all. Really well thought out and executed design. Once you have the parts "keyed" into their openings within the horizontal fuselage, you have as stiff and true an airframe as you could wish for. I had a heck of time trying to get the G/P FlatOuts properly squared. With the Yak-55 everything just fell in place, no sweat!

I didn't think I would like the looks of the Pink & Yellow one, heck! I like it better than the other ones. Somehow the website photo doesn't do it justice. It's much more visible that the other three and not hideous looking. All are powered by the Esskay 400XT motor.

The only step I did not follow as per the instructions was on the hinging. I used Blenderm medical tape (the same thing Dubro sells), only difference is that getting it through a medical supplier I paid less than half of what Dubro charges for the same amount. I like to have my moving surface gaps sealed, and didn't like the hinging method described in the manual. Tape does a better job than regualr and CA hinges. Some pharmacies in this area carry Blenderm @ $2.15 a roll.

I almost bought another one today. Hard to beat the price but I haven't put together the one I got from the Aug. sale yet that I got for $14.00

I now own six of them. Can't pass them up when they are so low in price. Same with the 400XT. I didn't get any more of them as I have as many as I can handle for the time being. Perhaps they may have them for sale after X-Mas?

The Yak-55 is a great flyer. Goes together quick, the 400XT is the perfect power plant for it, and is very durable. Nice and gentle with two cells and a 10X3.8SF propeller (6 amp draw WOT, 1.5 amps half throttle). A screamer with three cells and a 9X3.8SF, though the current draw goes above 9 Amps.

I put strapping tape along the bottom front half of the fuse to prevent it from rubbing itself against the grass. Somehow light colored planes don't look too swift with a "grass green" tinto to them. :D

Qban, your right. When they're that cheap, might as well get one! For the price, its not even worth getting your exacto out and making your own. I got a pink one coming as I thought it would be easy to see in the air. Yeah, I am gonna put strapping tape on the bottom. I have a Katana S shockie that I put tape on the bottom. Prevents skid marks plus, gives you a bit of strength on the fuse bottom. Nice thing is, indoor flying season is here and I should have this built for the 1st session on the first sunday in december.

Hi Dave.

You ordered the best looking one of the four. The photo in their catalog and web site don't do justice as to how colorful that one is. It is my preferred one. Really bright colors that stands out against all backgrounds!

You'll have it ready in a less than four hours, every part fits perfectly and truly square in relation to one another. That one is one of the few profile models I have ever seen that really goes together fast. I have yet to put a G/P Flat Out together in less than 14 hours, and I have built four of them! :o

You guys aren't the only ones who have been a bit miffed by great planes flat outs. I've heard other posts about them not having the pieces line up right amongst other maladies.
Qban, I thought the color would be easy to see in the air. Plus, nobody in either of the two clubs I belong to has one of these (as of a couple of weeks ago). They have been flying the ikarus shockies and a few of models from a guy in the club who has his own online hobby shop. Most of his stuff is from fff and depron. Wish I would have had it now because the next few days are gonna be in the 50's and 60's around here. That is before another cold rush comes in next week.

The highs were in the low 50's for the past few days where I am. This yak flies so well I just couldn't resist flying, even though it was a bit chilly. I use gloves so my fingers don't freeze.;)

Dave,

These Yak-55s put the Ikarus models to shame. These are made of two (2) laminated 3mm depron sheets for a total thickness of 6mm. The parts are sharply cut and beautifully printed. The only thing I wish they had done was to pre-bevel the surfaces, but at $20 with all the hardware and color manual that comes with it, what can more can we ask of them? BTW, these are made in Taiwan, not mainland China.

I like their rigidity, lightweight and the way the motor mounts to the F/W. Everything fits perfectly, truly and squared. More than I can say for the other road kills out there that take four times to put together and that may fall apart on their first landing. :D

YUP!

Did the same this afternoon after I came back from the field. At 43 degrees with the wind blowing steadily @ 10 MPH I had a nice H/L Yakety-Yak-55 flying session in a park .2 mile from my house.

These Yaks are very addictive!!! :D

I actually flew yesterday (I have a 50 acre horse farm). It was in the 50's and no wind. Today is gonna be mid 60's but supposed to get windy due to the cold front that is heading in from the west. Might be able to sneak a few flights in before the wind picks up.

Me neither, and I was stupid enough to buy two more after first one fluttered itself to death in flight!

You'll love these Yak-55s! They are stiff and very strong, the parts fit together in their cut outs (tongue and groove like) and align perfectly.

That Esskay motor is incredible. I use the $35 G/P SS-12 ESC with it, works like magic with that SK400XT. :)

$20 for the plane, $30 for the motor and $35 for the ESC. @ $85 you are 3/4 of the way to some fine flying fun with this set up! If you happen to get the plane and motor on sale, then you are in really good shape. :D
