View Full Version : How hot is too hot?

I have a Thunderbird 18 which is hot to the touch not enough to burn, but hot.
When the battery in my Emeter gets charged I will see how many amps I am drawing. Unfortunately I don't have an easy way to provide cooling to the ESC.

Definitely check the amp draw at full throttle. If you're using 3s lipo pack the BEC is dissipating the excess voltage to power your servos and receiver (12.6v fully charged 3s lipo down to 5v output)...that would add a bit of heat.

how many servos are you running?

Thanks for your reply. My E-Meter has gone bonkers, so I will need to get it repaired or buy another watt meter. I am only running two micro servos, so I don't think the hottness is due to servo overload.

Have a temp gauge? It's going to get hot dealing with the current...especially if at/over the 18A limit of the ESC...not to mention the BEC dissipating 7v or so.

No, unfortunately I do not have a temp gauge, and to further complicate my problem, it looks like I need to get my Emeter repaired. It wont take a charge and there is no display. Grrr...
