Would it be possible to post the instructions on how to animate your avatar? I've tried saving it as a .gif file but it always comes out static.

Thanks.

What program are you using Tom? Many programs on export have a button that says X static or X animate. Usually the animate button has to be checked and it will give you other options about looping forever or specific number of rotations etc.

Now thats different. If you save an animated gif file, then it should remain intact. If your using windows XP and you click on the gif...if it is animated it should show it.

Can you upload it here or link me too it? Ill take a look at it.

Here is an example of one I have on my HD.

Beating a dead horse..lol..I always did love this one.

There are two ways I know of..
1. Upload the image fropm your PC. I get most of mine by doing an image search on Google or Yahoo!. Just right click and save, be sure it saves as GIF.
2. You can copy the link to the image and paste it in the box on the avatar page.
If you need to resize your image and don't have Animation Shop or other software, you can use this site....GIF Online Tool (http://www.gifworks.com/image_editor.html)
If you need anymore help just ask.

08-31-2007, 01:52 AM
ok now it's working with that one...what's the difference?

Mike Parsons
08-31-2007, 01:54 AM
On the one I was originally trying..I had to open it up with fireworks and resave as an animated gif for it to work. Second upload to as my avatar worked. Beats me.

Water Boy
08-31-2007, 01:54 AM
I think it may be the size. The max size is 80 x 80 or 19.5kb. The one you have now is 59 x 80 @ 13.1kb. I tried some with a little larger dimensions and they became stills same with too high of a kb. Thats the only thing I can think of.

xuzme720

Water Boy
08-31-2007, 03:55 AM
Yup, its working. If you want it ot work with out clicking on it. Just copy the url and use the inset image button. Then just paste the url into the box.

Tom if you want that for your avatar, make sure its with the perimeters of the file size. See my post above for info.

Grasshopper
08-31-2007, 03:57 AM
But how do I get it to work in the avatar?

xuzme720
08-31-2007, 03:57 AM
wait, why does it only work when you enlarge it?

Water Boy
08-31-2007, 04:09 AM
But how do I get it to work in the avatar?
Tom, it appears that the file size is to large. Try this one, just right click, save as is. Then use the edit avatar option and use the browse button to upload it.

Hey Frank. Was it an animated gif file to begin with or just a still shot?

It was a still. It would probably take some photo shop work to remove the "plane" and replace it with a moving one I'm afraid. Now that I think about it, it'll be too much trouble.

how do you anamate a gif file?

Grasshopper
08-31-2007, 07:35 PM
Typically the file is already animated. If you want to use either of the two above, just right click on the picture, save as, and save it to what ever file you want on your PC. Then go to User CP, edit avatar, browse, and select that file.

Not BLACK magic, it gray magic. Gray is neither good or bad, neutral....like Sweeden.
Seriously, its just like a cartoon, there are severel frames of the image performing the action.

Taint really difficult, I am by no means good at it but as far as tutorials most all I have learned is from Gimptalk.com (http://gimptalk.com/) These people have good ideas and another good place is The computer Graphics Society (http://www.cgsociety.org/) . These are good places to learn Gimp at. Good luck with it.

Just did this one with Gimp:
