Two things Monkey DIDN'T point out, mostly because he's not from around here (who do I say thank you to?? lol) First, in Monezuma, just east of town on Rt. 27 is the Mennonite Restaurant, a really, really good "take" for food. I know it's not open one day a week, and I believe its on a Monday, but I'd check first. This is a very short drive from Hodge's.
The second is the fact (or it used to be so anyway) that you can check your family name at Andersonville, in the main building, in order to see if any of your family were actually there as a POW. I don't know if this feature is still there, but when I visited several years ago, it was....

One of the things I checked out during SEFF 2007, was Plains, Ga. a 11 mile trip. The Birthplace of Former President Jimmy Carter. There are several attractions around the small town, including a Gift shop featuring Political memorbelia dating back to the turn of the Century.

Ahem.... You could thank me for all my hard work, you nay sayer!
I didn't see any of the "locals" writing these types or reports, Mr. "Lives Around There"!
OK, thank you.... I've never seen a report on the area such as yours. Well done...!!
(BTW, the Georgia Board of Tourism wants to talk to you about employment... AND, take a look at the very first sentence in your opening post....)

Oh well, I forgot you could go back and "modify" your post.... He who laughs last, laughs best.... VERY good one FM....:D
(BTW, yes, I'd fly with FM also. He reminds me of myself with his enthusiasm when I first started flying. You can't "teach" that to anyone, it's just there or not is all. Now, if we can only teach him how to cut the tails off the combat planes in the air.... LOL)

Next stop would be the town of Montezuma. We travelled north by way of a couple small towns, Drayton and Byromville. I wouldn't have known that Drayton existed, except that there is a listing on the map for the intersection we went through. Byromville looks like a town that is centered around it's cotton trade. There is a cotten gin at one side of town, a small main street with some somewhat run down shops, and that is about it from what we saw. The scenery before and after these towns was worth the drive though. Acres and acres of pecan groves. Beautiful farm land and old barns like something from a painting. Plenty to see as you drive along.
Montezuma is another small town on the circuit. The focal point of this town would have to be it's fountain. There are several little parks, which would make great places to stop and eat a lunch. It also has an interesting looking little museum, and an assortment of small town, main street shops. All of which seemed to be closed on Sundays. So, if you plan to make this tour, try for a weekday. Or at least a Saturday.
FM, very nice job of picture posting of local sights. It's a great primer for those who are interested in going to Hodges (love that B-29/Bell X-1 combo; my wife does too) but have friends/relatives/spouses/SOs not interested in RC that are coming along. B&Bs are a natural draw for vacationers as well, I think. Keep up the good work. I may just attend an event yet!:) Your minion and pal.

I have to admit that Mack Hodges B-29 is quite an incentive. I might have to work on Mrs. Voyager to see how she feels about it. The fact it (SEFF) is electric is really cool. And there really are some nice local sights as well.

08 is going to be a completely different event for me.
07 was amazing, 08 promises to be even better....This was the same for me for the Arizona Electric Festival. In 2006 I was just a spectator, having just gotten into the hobby. In 2007 I was a registered pilot with 10 flyable planes. :D
The AEF is the southwest equivalent of SEFF. On Saturday this year we had 200 pilots on the flightline (it would have been more but they had a cap on registrations). Man what a huge draw, and this was only the 3rd year. About 50 vendors were on hand too.
And next April we will get an RC Expo that will rival LA and Toledo. It's going to be held at the new Cardinal Stadium (it's got to be put to good use, the Cardinals aren't using it for much :p). The stadium has a retractable roof, there will be indoor flying activities as well as outdoor in surrounding soccer fields, and more vendors than you can shake a monkey whuppin' stick at. :D

Doubt it. This is my daughter's first year of school. It will be hard planning vacation at the end of April, start of May. I'd rather not take her out of school at all if possible.

Dave,
Funny you should mention this, but I asked my wife if she'd be willing to "gather the troops" (meaning those who follow those of us who fly, but don't actually fly anything...:{) and help with a "tour" of all or some of the sights over the SEFF weekend or for a day anyway. She said "sure" (I don't think she realizes the ramifications of that statement yet...;-)). But of course, WeaZilla also knows some of the sights now too, due to FM's great tour guide skills...::o
Anyway, let's see how this all develops.... My wife grew up here in Georgia, and no one knows this state any better than she does.
