The thing across the wing is an EPP strip with strapping tape across the top.
There is one on the bottom too.

The wing used no spar and hovered fine. But the strip slowed it down too much.

What is funny is if you put a strip farther up near the front it acts a bit like an airfoil and smooths the pitch. There may be as much drag though.

Steve, great to see you here on wattflyer. Are you not still pushing the EPP? Hey guys I have several of Steve's panes, great flyers and the only thing durable enough for me to fly 3D on :)

Steve, I love my 32" mini3DEPP. Fly it all the time, i think it will never die. Wishful thinking, i know, but it is unreal how tough it has been. Outlasted my 'unbreakable' Southern X2 by several orders of magnitude.

Since you don't cut 'em anymore (32 inch span that is), i guess i'll have to just buy a few sheets from you and cut my own. Thanks for a great design and excellent support...
