Hello everyone,
I am in need of a new logo for my welding company and thought that someone here might like to draw something up for us. I for the life of me cant seem to draw anything worth keeping. I have seen some unreal avatars and sigs here, and this would be a million times more simple than those. Heres the concept I'd like to go with, some sort of cartoon skull wearing a welding helmet turned up. The skull should be smiling and the overall logo should be very simple with no detail. This is so I can shrink it for business cards. Here are some pictures I found on Google, I really like these skulls but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to use them legally. I couldnt find any good helmet pictuers, these ones are ok. I'm not sure what to offer for this service, but I'm sure we could come up with something. Thanks in advance and if you have any questions, just ask. :)

Skulls happen to be something I draw alot of along with dragons, if there is money involved for the service, I'm game. I've done logo's for businesses in the past so know what I'm up against here.
I'll hand draw it until you are happy with the layout, scan and convert it to "flash" vector graphics, clean it up in that format so you get those nice sharp lines as shown in one of your examples. Then export it as a fla, swf, and jpg file. The SWF file allows you to resize it from your browser, the fla allows me, and any other potential designers to import and use it with their software and the jpg is for your own personal use if you just want a static image. The advantage of using flash is that you can scale it up or down and it won't lose resolution, which will be good for signage as well as business cards. The added bonus, every time you copy and send a static image, jpg, gif, etc. it loses a little bit of resolution in the cloning process, flash never loses it. Also, your logo will never be copied because you own the rights to it, you don't want someone else to be able to just download it from google and use it for their own, it reflects negatively upon your company image should a client see the same logo elsewhere.

Thanks Chellie, appreciate that. That painting with the welding hat turned up is kinda what I'm looking for. Only much simpler. :)
Sounds like you know what your talking about SaucerGuy. I was going to head into town in a few weeks ( I live in the boonies) and stop by the tattoo shop or graphics shop and get this taken care of, but thought I should try my luck here first. Maybe someone might feel like working for some used gear or something. God knows I have enough of it laying around lol. So I'll leave this post up for a week or so and if nobody else wants to do it then I'll send you a PM and we'll negotiate :) Thanks again.

Heres one someone from another forum drew up for me. Its pretty much what I had in mind but can still be better. I'd like to have more depth as well as some shading with color too if possible. Sort of like the picture of the twin skulls I posted already. Is this something you would be able to do SaucerGuy? I tried to move the helmet forward a little on this picture with photshop but ended up looking stupid lol. I cant draw to save my life, but I can fabricate from aluminum the nicest drawing desk on the planet. :) G'night.

Weird, I was just thinking of you literally just before I got back to the PC.
It looks good, a little too much along the evil side for your application, I can literally create one in 3d graphics if you want to talk depth, of course though, can shade it by hand to look realistic as well in pencil, charcoal, pastels, pen and ink, etc. At the same time, if you are happy with it how it is, adding those elements onto this one, not a big deal if you just want me to do it by hand, I'd be rebuilding it from scratch in 3d land. The helmet is not a big deal to cover at all on my end.
I agree, it takes more work to modify it after the fact in photoshop, might as well start over from scratch.
Here is something else I should throw on the plate, how about a terminator style skull to give you a greater feel for the context of the logo and what you do, keeping the helmet of course and holding up a torch next to it with him gripping it, I think it would suite your vision and be most appropriate as well as fitting into what you do better.
Let me know what you think., Brian

Yeah the terminator type head sounds good. I agree this picture is a little too evil looking. I'm not sure how the torch would work out, truth is we dont use torches alot anymore, at least not in our shop. Its all plasma cutters now, but they look similar. I'll send you a PM tomorrow and we can talk cost. Thanks.

I just wanted to point you towards the gallery shown off with the software I use in 3d land to give you a good idea as to what output it can produce: http://hof.povray.org/
