View Full Version : Problems with Importing DXF into Alibre Design

I traced a Earl Stahl plan, the ME 109 plan, using QCad which saves the drawing to DXF format. I also have Alibre Design which I acquired through their give away earlier this year.

What I want to do now is import the DXF plan into Alibre and true it into a 3D plan. It's a learning experience for me.

I imported the DXF file into Alibre and copy and pasted a former into a new part. I run the Feature -> Analyze... on the part and it gave me a list of problems. Some were easy to cleanup but then there are a ton of 'No Intersection' problems. It seems like it's at each corner or arc joint. I zoom in very close and I seen no problem. This is a little frustrating because the only way it seems like I can fix this is to delete one of the segments and recreate it. This would be very time consuming and I might as well just retrace it in Alibre, I'm hoping to avoid that...

When I did the initial tracing of the plan I made sure to either continue drawing lines from the last coordinate or make sure that the new starting position snapped to the endpoint of the segment I was continueing.

Does anyone have any ideas or hints on how to resolve these issues? Alibre seems to want these issues resolved before it will let you 'emboss' or extrude the part.

BTW, with the last upgrade the banner advertising is gone and it (Alibre) seems to run faster.

I tried a quick attempt at importing an images and trying to trace over it in Alibre but it seemed as though it would not let me draw over the image. Has anyone done this with Alibre? Any tips?

Thanks,
Mike
