Was perusing a few hobby web sites in order to find a half decently priced all balsa/full fuse plane to throw a park 400 with gearbox into. Something in the neighborhood of 19 to 25 oz. Sorta like the mini funtana. I found a few that I liked but came upon a site (I forget now, have it written down somewheres) that had some wings. I believe it to be thunder tiger as manufacturer and they had a nice little 32 inch span which was called the Velocity. This wing has sort of a pod looking fuse and the motor mounts a little like the Unicorn. Speed 400 powered and the model includes the motor. Nice thing about this wing is that there is an area underneath to make launching easy. I always launch all my pushers at full throttle. Been doing it this way for years and have never had any problems.
Anyone have this Velocity?

Dave,
I have a velocity. As you have probably found out, it's a bit of a projeti clone with the winglets moved to the wing tips. The rest of the wing and fuselage are almost identical. I put a mega 16-15-3 in mine and it goes very fast, well did go very fast. I only put a piece of carbon fiber in the bottom of the wing to beef up the the wing in the tensile direction. BUT, if you put enough stress on the wing, the top of the wing which goes into compression during high 'G' manuvers eventually will fail. I needed to put a carbon reinforcement into the top of the wing. It folded at probably 100mph+ the other day after several months of ripping up the skies. I never used the stock motor, (400 can), but have used them in 48 wings and they actually flew quite well. With the brushless motor mentioned and 3cell LiPo power, the velocity is fast, and hyper!! It was the only plane I had that would go straight up while gaining speed. If you pointed it straight up for 5 sec. it became very small very fast. At $55.00 shipped, it's a bargin. I may just order a new one instead of rebuilding this one again. Pick one up, It will put the adrenaline rush into your flying session. Good luck.

Thanx for the info Rick. I plan on just keeping the 400 brushed motor in it.
If the velocity flies like a projeti, that will be just fine. I have reversed timed 400's in a Razor and Zag Nutz and they fly well with the setup. For my major adrenalin and pucker factor, I fly my Diamond Dust. It has a tuned pipe OS .46 on the front and has been clocked at 207 mph. I have a 50 acre farm that I fly all my electrics in. The Velocity just looked really cool to me and the price point of the model hits a home run every time!
For brushless, I'm saving it for a Unicorn. A man can't have too many wings!!! :D Also have a Sylair 20 inch wing. Little johnson 250 with 4x4 prop and a 2S lipo on it with the elevons set at major travel, this little guy will roll over like a 2 bit hooker on a saturday nite!!! :D It really is a handful!! Heck for the price, you might as well buy another velocity and add in the carbon fiber reinforcements. A fellow club member has a Twin Jet. He took off both 480 motors, configged a mount a dumped in a jeti 30/3 brushless. PHew!!! Hehehe....you gotta love overpowered models!!!

Dave, do you have a link handy on the plane?

Why thankee Dave. Newcreations is a great vendor, don't know about ace, never bought from them.

Just purchased the velocity from New Creations yesterday. I'm gonna leave it stock for the time being as I don't have any 400 sized brushless motors laying around. I have a bunch of 8 cell kans and CBP 1150 nimh's to throw in. I may try some 1800 3S lipos but am a bit concerned that I may have to add weight to the nose in order to balance it.

Just finished up the Velocity. Man, theres alot of plastic cutting for the canopy, deck and the servo covers. With an 8 cell kans pack, weighs 18 oz. The model is setup for the flat pack style of batteries. There are 8 foam vertical ribs inside the pod. I don't use these style packs so I cut the ribs out and applied velcro to the bottom. Had to cut foam from the servo area because they are setup for smaller servos. I am using HS-81's.
Another thing I don't like is how they want you to run the antenna. They give you a tube thats glued to the bottom and extends past the back of the plane. The prop seemed close to that tube. I decided not to use the tube and will route the antenna out right wing bottom. Haven't maidened yet. Maybe saturday as long as the wind aint too strong.

Good luck on the maiden. Looks like you kept you weight within the limit that you initially set.

Yeah Don, according to the manual, plane weighs 19 oz. So, I saved about an ounce. Probably because the kans pack could be close to an ounce lighter. Will try the stock motor. I also have a zagi motor thats handy. I could eventually try one of the justgofly brushless motors.
Use a 3S pack of lipo. More power and probably be 2 ounces less in the weight department. Currently, 26 degrees here and wind at 15 mph.
Just a bit on the cold side.
Starting my build of a pitts special. Unfortunately, don't see any time soon to maiden the thing. Weather supposed to be really crummy the next week.

Maidened today at temp in the mid 20's and 10 mph winds. Flew 4 packs.
Its a little faster than I had thought with the stock setup. AUW is 18 oz.
Flies nice! I had 50% expo dialed in with full elevon throws. Glad I did because with no expo, this wing could be a bit twitchy. Doesn't roll too bad. With a brushless, this thing would be a nuclear rocket!

Sounds great Dave! You plan on posting a photo of the finished plane?? I can't remember if you do the digital photo thing or not!!

Hi Don. Yeah, I have a digital camera. Heres a pic of the Velocity.
This was taken after the 4 flights in my shop. Dang thing looks like a projeti...only the two tails moved out to be winglets instead of by the fuse. She flew good considering the cold temp. I ran the first flight on an 8 cell CBP 1150 pack. I love these packs!!! About a $1.60 per cell and they can handle around 20 amps. Fresh charged pack and full throttle yields 11 amps draw on the 5x5 prop. If ya put on one of those 400 hx or ht brushless motors from justgofly, and a 3S lipo pack, bring extra "fruit of the looms"!!! On the bottom of my Velocity, I put on some fiber strapping tape for a little extra strength. The fun and exitement is well worth the $57 for the plane.
