That is a nice kit. It inspired me to scratch build one. Are those wheels in the photo a takeoff dolly?

actually they are just a transport stand for this one, and a dolly for another plane.

its a cool plane eh?

ive been looking for a microfan scale version for a long time....nudda thing..

please fire me an email if you find something like that.

I think you should tell him you want it back now ;). That is one sweet looking bird!

Definitely a cool plane Watt. I stumbled across thed RBC website, saw the photo, and had to build one. Scratch built sheeted foam. The under wing ducting and making the EDF servicable were interesting challenges. I made sure the rotor adapter had a nice slip fit, as the EDF housing is glued in place. The rotor is tapped out from behind, all the way through the front duct. A nice long screwdriver accesses the motor mount screws from the other end.
Now if someone better than me would just test pilot this thing. I guess it would be a bit much for you to come to the States just for that. 23oz thrust in a 22oz AUW plane, EDF55 with Himax 2025-5300. With my new ProLite 3s-2100, cont max will actually be achievable.

wow i missed this post Bill!!!

thats great....do you have build pics?...coz i want to build one smaller than the rbc version running on a 55-60mm fan...

23oz thrust!!!...awesome...what current draw?

Tim.

This was an interesting project, with the thrust tube integrated with the wing saddle. Sculpted form a foam block, well really 2 blocks glued together. Built it with the EDF servicable, and actually did use the feature, to change the motor. Made a nice slip fit on the rotor adapter, as the EDF housing is glued in place. The allen screws are accessed through a small hole in the fuse.
Really enjoyed this scratch build. The Himax 2025-5300 is a little powerhouse, but likes current. If I remember correctly, it is at 25A. With the 3s-2100 ProLite I now have, It may be feasible to maintain it in flight. Its the only plane I have that will try to pull vertical from your hand, at full throttle.
You can see the RBC pic in my pics. Their site was what gave me the initial inspiration and idea to build it. I had never seen one before that.

Tim, here's some trivia for you. I found a pic of your buddys ME262 saved on my computer. Its the same plane shown in your photo in the gallery. I used the photo of that exact plane to inspire this scheme:

Bill- are you sure that's his?...ooops...edit: i see that that is yours!..sorry, i thought you were posting pics of his.

the guy's name is Mani Reiderich, it was featured here in RCM News a while back.

I'll see if i can find some pics to compare.

I have his pic saved, but it is too large to post here. I saved it from one of the forums.

Erik- the RBC guru! welcome to WF! please hang around.

Actually i asked Rob some time ago about a smaller plan of the 23. So you know of any in existence? im wanting micro/gws55 or alfa 60 size version...

Hi Tim,

I do not know if the yak is planned to scale down, What I do know is that Rob was planning to scale the yak-15 up for 90mm and even considered larger for 120mm or turbine but due to the large fuse shipping costs is too expensive. I'd like a glass version of is with retracts (and larger as the minifan version)

due to some other projects which are still laying around (Jepe A10 now on the bench, stevejets Huck and Me p1101) I have not planned building an rbc kit by now but I am in favour of this jsf:cool:

That would be pretty slick, if anyone has seen Rainer from Switzerland's incredible, personally CAD designed, scratch built version on RCG. Looks real good standing next to him, at the same height. A must see thread.
RBC, you're an inspiration. Your site's Yak23 inspired me to scratch build mine. Not surprising, it was the first I ever saw of the plane.

Finally got some decent flight pics taken by an flying buddy. I need to put the GWS 4600kv back in the plane. I stole it from it, and replaced it with an Eflite 400-4200. Not as much power, but very close to the same. Still can use the extra power. Don't ever overclimb and stall this plane, as it will get stuck in the most stable flat stall I've ever seen. Lands like a Harrier then, and barely spins either. Actually okay if it does it on soft ground. One time it found the tiny paved path (Murphy's Law) when it did it, and I had to repair the ducting.

hey Erik- i want to convert mine to use retracts....can you give me some advice perhaps?

yours is gorgeous!

Hey Tim!

I ave not received an e-mail notification of a post on this thread for a while!????. Something is wrong in the system.

Personally, I do not think it is wise to add retracts in this wing. The construction in this wing is not designed for this job. In fact, there is only a balsa main wing spar and some balsa ribs inside this wing!
However, if you insist on retracts, I'd recommend a foam cored wing with ply wing spars.
The plane does not need retracts. You might reconsider to scale up this plane for a really nice edf jet! I like to plug this plane for a long time for 90mm , but as I am into twin 90mm edf I have noticed the Cuttlass too:roll:.

the VX350 is a joy to plug too. too many great classic jets to build in future!

good luck! Erik

hi Erik

mate if you have a 90mm huck or that 70mm huck molded i'd be interested in getting a kit asap...ive got my hand on the "add to cart" button from rbc for the huck right now but Rob thinks that the 70mm retract set will be too small..

what do you think?

The rbc Huck is almost identical in size as the Alfa Huck, But the fuse is much nicer as the Alfa version. The RBC Huck might even be faster as the Jepe Piranha too!! I have seen this plane fly about 4 years ago and I was very impressed. For retracts this plane is too small.
I do like the Huck and many other 1945-1950 jets. regarding the Stevejets Huck I think I'd like an bigger version of this beta kit myself. In fact, I like every classic rbc 70mm edf to be enlarged for 90mm or twin 90mm edf.

As for now I am still benching my twin 90mm/A123 project. A new Lift-off edf+A123 is waiting to be build next. After this I'd like a BIG classic jet! I like a safe plane design for now. The Huck has some small problems to take into account;-). I do not think this is a best choice for my experimental setups. An other great model might be the VX350. Would you be happy with this one too?
