Just got the new yak54f its brittel on the fuse but 1-2 layers of clear packing tape stiffens it up and only adds 8grams of weight
not built yet just got it sunday the 7th of augest in a iomac raffel only 20.00 dollers i put in the can hoping to win but ther was only 9 pilots including me so odds where verry good that i could win it and i did

Welcome to Wattflyer Danny! You'll love the E-flite Yak. I have had two of them and both were great flyers. Good idea on the packing tape!

The packing tape down the fuse helps and you really do need long servo arms to make the pull-pull give full throws... other than that its the easiest building and straightest plane I've done.

Oh, I did have to use two aileron servos hot glued under the wings because I couldn't get the CG right. I put the 1320 3 cell where the aileron servo is supposed to go and it all works well.

Dont let Mike fool you,he is a awesome pilot I seen him fly that thing in about 10-20 mph winds like it was nothing.doing harrier rolls right on the deck:D It does look like a nice looking plane though I'ld like to fly one.I wish they was more electric flyer's around in my clubs so I could fly driffrent planes but my clubs still like glow for the most part.

Has anyone come up with a better way to mount the battery? Taking it in and out of the front has broken pieces of the foam off. I like the idea of 2 aileron servos and putting the battery in the compartment. I just put a set of night lites on mine, LOTS OF FUN!!!!!!!:D

You can also use fiberglass tape, instead of packing tape. It will adhere better, is narrower, lightweight, and is extremely strong.

I am waiting for another new Yak now. I plan to build a platform near where the aileron servo goes (I like the idea of two wing servos, BTW) to hold the battery pack, so that no foam needs to be moved, or is in the way, when changing packs. I will cut away the fuse sides under the wing to a depth equal to the thickness of the battery packs. Then glue in a small 1/8" thick balsa sheet platform which the battery pack can attach to, so the pack will sit flush with the bottom of the fuse, and can simply be pulled away to be exchanged. The option of using rubber bands instead of velcro exists too.
