I want to get an e-flight plane to take with me to the campgrounds and the local park, or even my front yard. I am an accomplished pilot and have been flying for a few years (including giant scale). I prefer scale aerobatics and warbirds over 3d type aircraft.

I't must be at least an ARF, but I would prefer RTF. I'll buy used to avoid building (have other projects on the table right now). I have no experience with electrics so I appreciate any help you can give.

So what do you guys recommend? Remember, I would like to be able to bring it to the campgrounds, so here are some things to consider:

1. Safe to fly in the vicinity of others (I will search out an acceptable place to fly, and if none can be located I won't put it up...safety first)

2. Easy to transport. I have a travel trailer and will travel with it on the bed.

Thanks all for any help you can give.

Paul

Look at the parkzone line. They are all suited for what you want to do. They are RTF. Hobbyzone and Parkzone are coming out with the RTR on 72 mhz like the BladeCP. Now the prices are reasonable and they all fly pretty well. Those are reports from our customers and from us. We fly a BladeCP and think the value is very good for what you get.

If you already have Tranmitters then consider getting into a park flyer of other sorts. Thundertiger has come out with a new 3D series. You have the Ikkarus Shock Flyers. (They are a blast) GWS has several parkflying series as well. JR has just introduced a sports line of radio's that really makes it affordable for a Transmitter outfitted with two servo's and receiver 4 Channel radio Jr Quality with a 3 year warranty $99.99 is the advertised price.

There are just a few idea's. I am sure there are others. Just happens to be what we stock in for folks.

There are literally tons of smaller park flyers out there that would meet your needs. I imagine that you have your own radio gear already, but you will need micro servos to power these smaller planes. You can either go with an ARF and add your radio and purchase some cheap micro servos, or get a RTF plane ready to go.

Most of these smaller planes will be foam so assembly is extremely easy.

Some examples would be:

There are tons more - but these are a few to start looking at.

Honestly - I would recommend the GWS Pico Tiger Moth. It can literally be flown so slow you can walk next to it - looks great in the air, and can be assembled in less than a day or two. Has a historic following as being one of the best flying electrics ever!

Thanks guys...that was fast!

Do you guys have any experience with or any comments on the Phase 3 (http://www.hobbypeople.net/mfr/PHASE301.asp) offerings? I like that they are on 72 MHz.

I need to look at the ParkZone planes again. I like the P51 but hear it doesn't fly so well.

Phase 3 offerings may be nice if and when they become available. Not sure if it's a new introduction or what.

The GWS Formosa is a nice plane. I take it you don't have the transmitter to add a micro flight pack to?

Yes, I do. I have a 9c.

I'll be honest, I'm looking for something I can get in the air quickly and to use to learn the nuances of electric flight. I'm used to large planes, with large engines and high-torque servos. This will be a learning experience for me.

Ahh shucks, You can do it. It's just a smaller airplane. The only nuances are, shhhhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone. They are quieter. :)

You'll enjoy a shock flyer get you some gws pico bb servo's. A good lipo and a CD Rom motor. More fun than you should be allowed to have. I got mine this weekend. Now if it will just quit raining I may even get to fly it. Hand me down you see.

I like the soarstar. Have it outfitted with some hs55's and a expert receiver flying a JR 652 radio. Love it and when I switched from the simple hitec tranmitter I was using to by 652 I did feel the difference.

I park fly all the time.

Thanks for the help Debbie, I appreciate it.

I'm seriously looking at the Formosa. I hear its a pretty good plane out of the box. I'd like one I can fly for a while "stock" before dumping money on upgrades.

PT - the parkzone P51 acutally flies very well. I have a Formosa and have to say that it is the best plane I have ever owned.

If you want to see more about it, here is a link to a build thread I did for it.

Hey there guys and gals, anyone fly one of these (http://www.parkflyers.com/html/body_cessna_182.html)? I'd like the fact a 4-channel is offered, and on 72mHz. What do you all think?

PT you are not listening .A campground or park is one thing a front yard is something else A shockey will fly at both and no it will not look as good as a scale plane but you may have to have a change of underwear because of the fun factor these little planes have. You do not need 3d to have fun .Try hanging it in the wind when no other model is flying because of the weather these things are great. 1st buy a shockey{ Edge 540 is nice}make a copy of your parts 2nd buy some 3 mil depron and foam ca .and a hot glue gun you will not need all your old model supplies. I have 5 shockies in my Van right now and a basement of scale planes with gas motors waiting their turn again.

Flying a Formosa in a campground? is that realistic? there's no way you're going to fly that thing in your front yard.

For close in flying you might want to look at a T-Ifo.

Yep, I agree! Unless you have a BIG front yard (Football Field?). Sounds like a Shockie would be the best option for you. Have a look at this http://www.hobby-lobby.com/shockflyer-nemesis.htm. Its on sale.

NO BS here I love the tbm foamy flat plate air planes, yes they are 3d but surprise surprise, low rate for mild settings including good areobatics and high rates for some extream snaps and rolls, any wau i fly patern with um mostly and hover on occation , but you can fly in an area 100x100 or even less and for 20$ air fram thats quick to build. i have tried more stupid stuf than i would if i had a 50$ airfram which in return means more fun and crazy video.... www.troybuiltmodels.com (http://www.troybuiltmodels.com)

hope this helps

You guys are right about Shock flyers being the best for the campgrounds or my front yard, I just can't get myself to buy one! I think I'm going to try the Cessna 4-channel for my local park (its huge...I'd have no problem flying my Funtana 90 there) then work my way into a shocky.
