i have 2 lear jets. tried using astroflight 020's got a couple of flights, then busted all the fans. can't get parts for it anymore. has anyone found a motor and fan setup that will work? i would like to use the 020's if that's possible.

The Astro 20's should work well with WeMoTec Minifans, amd a huge 4S Lipo Power Supply. I'm not sure if the Lear had Vasa 55 or 65's as stock fans. If there 65's the Minifan should be a perfect fit.

Its critical to balance the fan before adding more watts than stock.

My T-33 still (5th season) uses its original stock fan at almost 500W!

Hi jrb,

I'm new to electrics. Couldn't help noticing your T-33 picture. Is that some kind of catapult?

Regards from Portugal,
Sorry for my English...:o

What IS the origional Fan? His fans blew up and he needs new ones, or something compatable.

thx

kyosho USA has part for the EDF unit in the Lear Jet. Contact them.

It’s a bungee launch system and is used for most high performance EDFs.

Here’s a similar system: http://www.geocities.com/lucchev/bungee.htm

Thanks for the link! Scarrry:eek: Did you have any kind of problems with the structure of the plane? Does it support the forces easily or have you done some kind of mods?

Isn’t scary at all; it’s a rush!!

Note the bungee is pulled to a tension of 5g – 5 times the weight of the model.

Nothing too special; here’s shot of the mod I made.

thanks for the reply. i'm not sure i want to use the original fans. i would still like the hop up with the astro 020's i need more than fans, the webbing inside that the motor connects to has also broken out.

The MF480 isn’t considered an upgrade for the T-33 – draggy airframe.

Probably even more true with the LearJet.

I’d prefer the larger diameter fan for the Lear so as to get more static thrust for ROG – don’t think its gonna break the sound barrier.

Also, the nacelle(s) will need some work/modification if using a different EDF unit.

I know of several folks with Aveox and Astros being used in their Lears with the stock rotors.

Had same prob with fans using mega 15/16/2 blades let go on one fan. These fans are not safe on brushless high Kv motors.
Mini fans fit remove stat blades and motor housing of koyso fan,the fan body is molded into the pod so would be hard to remove,IE leave fan body in place. The mini fans fit inside just cut the mounting lugs down untill a snug fit.Fit the fan ring to the mini fan which is suppled with fan(cyno)I then tapped the mini fan in.Have supply sum pics I used red profilm as tape u can see in pics.Hope this helps.
Power train as Follows:
Mega 15/16/2 motors Wemotec Mini fans Hacker 40amp controllers Thunder power 4000 3 cell li-Ploy all x 2.

I use Kamdax glow fans in the Kyosho fan. You have to ream the center hole slightly and cut it down about .060". Works great wont blow apart also the Kamdax fan has a small fan in the center that blows cooling air thru the motor. Vern

Nice tip Vern; I'm looking into that after this post.

Several years ago I read a post on E-Zone about putting the MF480's in the Lear. It was a very succesfull mod. There was a video as well. Search the EDF section for that post.
