Hey All.

Special project...and

I just bought an GWS EDF 55 and have a cache of Park 5400Kv motors....

is this a good marriage with a 3s lipo? Anyone have any specs?

Much thanks,

It runs 20 amps on the bench (right at the motor's threshold) at WOT with heatsink.

It is giving a boatload of thrust on the bench...but should I be leery of any 'tendencies'? (aka) throwing a blade?

Hey Chuck.
It's me Shelby1 from the Stryker site.
What, did you give up on the wings?
I never did get to them. I went here. http://www.warbirds-rc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=W&Product_Code=HETF20-G
I'm in the middle of the build on it.

As for your Puke 5400's, I've not had much luck with them, I tried the 4200 and the 5400's.
A had a run of 7 of them in 6 months time. Shafts fell out, lock ups, stutters. Horizon graciously replaced every one. Till the last one, I got them to replace it with the Hacker E43 4900 Kv motor. Been running like a dream ever since. I put it in my Cub, it will run with a stock Stryker. LOL

Shelby....WHOS GLACIER GIRL??!!!

GIVE UP ON WINGS? BLASHPHEMY!!!! :D

THIS IS FOR A WING!!! SHAME ON YOU! ;)

No wings are still my 100 percent favorite...actually, any craft with a delta or double-delta is sure to be a favorite. And the quest for speed continues with them. My fastest wing was nailed the other day at 148 in a 20-30 degree dive...120-130 all day long.

This is actually a 'journey of necessity'; the local hobby shop here is nothing short of an action-show. They have nationally sponsored drivers and jumpers in the glow/electric world working there (they 'get it'...employ some 'stars')...anyway...they do arena shows several times a month.

A bunch of the guys were watching me demo a proto-type wing the other day (a 30 incher with a pitchspeed of 157)...and the owner said...

"man, if we could just get one of those with the prop 'contained' to fly around the arena while we were jumping the buggies...that would be crazy"....for time and money...anything can be done. ;)

So...the quest is on to get them a few wings with DF setups to zip around the arena. I ordered a few Superfly delta-dfs...but I want one crazy bird that I will fly (yes they are insured for like 3 million..the promoter picks up any other indemnity) zooming around the arenas while the film-crew does some shooting.

I hooked the setup to a 2100 20C just to test...had enough umph to lift the motor, esc, rx, and lipo...but I would only use 'that' power outdoors.

Park400's are good motors...they just don't like to go above 20 amps.....ever. Horizon has replaced every one I have ever sent back... (2 in 2 years)...(fieago...not so much) however...ya can never kill a mega!

Ps...I have been "stryker-free" for 4+ months now...I checked in to the thread about a month ago as I was emailed some of the activity...the same folks are still there...the same questions...ahhhhhh the old days.

Keep in touch...I miss our crazy-mind-meld-idea sessions! We got to get together on a sick project sometime...you are one of the guys who I always enjoyed...when the consensus said 'no'...shelby said "well, here it is...and it works!"

ps...keep me apprised of that Tigershark...I have an 18 coming.

With the 20A Eflite motor limit, I think the blades will hold up fine. The EDF55 seems to hold up with the Himax 2025-5300 motor at around 25A peak. Can put out about 23oz thrust, as I know firsthand. Seems to be a motor of choice for the EDF55.

Bill,

A million thanks! I am extremely new to EDF...but not high performance.

The whole 'newtons of thrust' thing is a learning curve...thanks or putting it in terms I can understand.

Yer tops!

C,
Glacier Girl is the WWII P38 retrieved from a glacier and rebuilt to flight status. www.thelostsquadron.com (http://www.thelostsquadron.com)

I'm new to the EDF's myself, the T/S is running a WeMoTec mini 480, bolt on impeller. I'm not sure of the set up on the 55, is it a press on impeller?
I've been reading about those types having a motor heat problem, where the motor shaft gets hot and loosens the bond and the impeller goes awol. From what I understand temp fix is to CA the fan on or for a more permanant way, is to use a prop adapter.

Hey Shelby (aka Glacier)

Ya know what? I get the dumb-:D award. I actually met the pilot of the Glacier Girl at a show last year before he flew her out at Langley AFB. Great story on that one...and even cooler to see er loft by after hearing the story.

The EDF 55:

It is a 2mm pinion with 050 set screws...its a 15 dollar unit so the expectations are not too much...just enough so the guys can buzz them around the arena and get some 'ooooohhhhs' and 'ahhhhhhhhs'....

Personally I do not like the idea (a slow wing worries me! LOL) but they need something cheap that can be destroyed by a truck (they will prolly go through 5 or so a month)...

Thanks again, brother.

ps...I have a Mini and Midi fan I am looking at for a few EDF apps...and talking with Randy from Dynamoelectrics (he's an EDF nut) and is telling me of a 1.2KW setup.... I hav enough lipos to power a house...so I need to put some BIG multi-S apps to work.

Just hooked it up...gooped the EDF to the back of the little 25 wing...got airborne in my hall...

Set it on the hardwood...throttle up...it got 'light' really quick...this is by far the goofiest thing I have tried.

Thanks, all.

Out...

Randy...just when I try to jump out...you pull me back in to a thread! :D

You should see this thing...it is a 'flying poop'; ratty and frankenstein-ish....I will fly it at their show with a mask on....

beware, though...this was my first 'real' DF app...and there is a 'nibble' to learn more....I have been reading research and such all last night....I can see it now...long nites trying to put three DFs on the back of a pretty-wing.

Off topic...here is the latest wing with CF control rods and that HET I scammed off of you...we got it at 141 with that trimmed down graupner (in a 20-30 degree dive, of course)... 113 level (all pitch, no thrust)...with the 2100 20C

"Cayenne"

Guess who's wing coloring technique I cannot get away from using? LOL!
It does show up the best of any coloring technique I have seen yet.

buy more fans :) HET-Rc (Which Randy carries) is going to introduce some Twin EDF's next year, a F-4 and F-18 to name just a few...

For now, The F-100 is a Midifan Kit I beleive.
