Then what? are you going to pour a latex mold?

I've carved a few out of blue foam; it doesn't have to be that great once it's painted, and it ain't particulary fragile.

Personally, I haunt the 2nd hand stores looking for toys with the "right" look, and many of them can be repainted to look better. However, I prefer to give any spectators a giggle, even though the rivetcounters hate it! I'll see if I can post a couple of examples.

I picked up the entire 18 man crew for a 1/10 scale boat at a big flea market . All were poseable. $1.00 each.

Answer: practice, practice, and practice. I picked up a book on sketching from the library, and it was VERY helpful in understanding basic outlines. Once you get the idea of dimensions, grab a chunk of blue/white/pink foam and try what you learned.

Flea markets are a great source for Stuff: power tools, toys, even models, same for garage sales. I spend saturday and/or sunday mornings looking around, and ya just never know what you may find...

Or you could just do a simple profile. Here's a certain cartoon character that will pilot my watt age sopwith camel.

I have used premium "silk flower foam" its used for the base of silk flower arrangements .Its gray or greenn very solid and light (no pores ) you can cut it , sand it paint its very very light -great for jet pilots .
Hey wifey shops in Michales so I had to find something in there for the RC hobby lol

Hmmm, I'll look into that foam, sounds really good...

I mentioned "alternative" pilots, I'll try to send a pic; this is in a GWS P51. I showed it to a guy, and he said, "I flew with him!!"
