Help!!!!

I am in the process of building a Mountain Models P-38 as my first electric airplane. To this point it has been a challenging build. My problem is with the receiver/transmitter (i think?). Before covering the PODS, I wanted to test the receiver and servos. When I plug the receiver into the ESC, the servos don't work. They jump when I plug the ESC in, but the transmitter does not operate them. Here are the specs:

Transmitter - Futaba T6EXA
Receiver - Futaba R114F
Servos - Futaba 3008 (3)
ESC - Pixie 20P
Battery - Thunder Power Li Po 1900mAh 7.4v
2 GWS S1 MotorsI am currently using this same transmitter with my nitro plane and it works fine. I have tried by passing the ESC. My receiver operates on channel 41. I have a crystal in the receiver for channel 41.

What am I doing wrong? I am at my wits end!!!

Check and see if the ESC is pushing power to the receiver would be the first thing. Have you tried to power teh receiver up like a glow system to see if the servos respond. If they do the ESC is defective if they don't then the receiver may be toast.

I tried hooking it up with out the ESC, in other words, with the battery hooked directly to the receiver. That did not work. I thought the same thing about the receiver so I took it back and got a replacement. That did not work either.

I hope you mean you took a regular like you would use in a glow plane pack and plugged up to the receiver, cause if you hooked a lipo straight tot he receiver you toasted it... to muck for it the Esc controls that

but if you hooked everything up and it didn't work, are you sure you hooked it up right? I mean most the time the plugs on servos will plug into the receiver either way make sure the white is where it should be.and the black is where it should be.

I hooked it up with the nicad battery that came with the flight pack. As far as for hooking it up correctly, the plugs have a small fin on one side to ensure you plug them in correctly.

Here is another question. Is Channel 41 on the high band or low band. I thought I read it was on the high band so I purchased a high band receiver. Am using the correct band? Is the transmitter capable of using this receiver? I have tried to rule out everything I am aware of but it does not seem to be working.

Allright, just checking,I hooked up a ni-mi one time stright to the receiver I didnt know any better,(the hobby shop guy told me I could) anyways Now I know not to.

umm Dont hold me to it but I'm pretty sure 41 is High.I think its 11-30 low and 31-60 high.but dont hold me to that.let me look up your stuff again.forgot what kinda receiver and trans you got.

well you have a Futaba Recevier and Trans. so it should work. Now you work your othe rplanes with that TX right? where did the Rx come from?

The plug on the lipo does not match the receiver, or I probably would have tried that.

I think you are on the money about the bands. So, that leaves me still scratching my head. Are there any settings withing the xmitter that I need to modify?

The original receiver that is in my nitro plane came with the transmitter as a kit. The R114 I purchased seperately in a flight pack.

okay,so let me see if I have this right.

the Tx you are trying to use you use it on your glow planes on that same channel!(41)

but the receiver your trying to use now you got it from somewhere else and it was on a driffrent channel when you got it?

if this is correct what channel was the receiver on when you got it?

just trying to help you figure this out.

Oh and I know lipos dont have a reeceiver plug just thought you had a adapter or something .:D

Correct, I use this transmitter in my nitro with a different receiver. The original package came pre programmed for channel 41. I purchased the new receiver and a new channel 41 crystal for the receiver.

When it did not work, I took the crystal out of the receiver that does work and put it in the new receiver an it still did not work.

oh allright,so when you ordered the recevier did you tell them you wanted a lo band or high band? I would think since you ordered both the receiver and the crystal at the same time,I'm guessing they would give you the right one to match but maybe not.do you know for sure the servos work that your trying to use?

The servos jump when you attach the power, but I have not been able to get them to work so I don't know. The ESC beeps continously which means there is no signal.

unless there centered, even then sometimes Servos will jump when you put power to the RX.even w/o a TX being turned on...

 I really dont know what to say.I think I would take the Rx out of the nitro plane and hook it up to this other stuff to see if it works.I think you have a bad RX tho.but didnt you say it was a new one cause you took the other one back?

Try this . Lay all your stuff out on the table and plug your trans in its charger then plug the flight battery in its charger and (unless you are using a lipo battrey) go to bed and wait until tomorrow. Good Morning Now that you have a fully charged system 1 pull your throttle down then turn on your radio 2 Connect your servos to your rx. in the propper channels 2 If you have a manual make sure your throttle(esc.) is in the propper channel on your rx this is a servo plug .3 Plug in your power battery to the battery plugs on your esc.now you are HOT MAKE sure you hold the throttle down .Then wiggle your right stick up and down for elevator if ok wiggle the right stick left and right for ailerons. Now keep the throttle stick down and move it right and left for rudder If you have come this far that only leaves the throttle. While HOLDING your MOTOR or aircraft move the throttle stick part way up and the motor should respond If it will not remove your flight battery and reverse your throttle setting in the radio . one more time plug in your flight battery to the speed control . then carefully raise the throttle and that should be it. some controllers need to be programmed before use .This will be with papers for your speed control .Check back with more info if this will not work THE MOTOR IS LIVE WHEN THE BATTERY IS CONNECTED TO THE SPEED CONTROL I dont care how many switches or what ever you have been told this motor will not stall if it hits ANYTHING it will chew until the power is used up.Take Proper Care . Safest thing is to leave the prop off till you get things dialed in.

Guy's I think the crystal may be wrong. I ran into this same problem awhile back. I had a regular crystal and needed a short crystal. Just check to see if it's the proper crystal. Even without the proper crystal the servos will jump. Hope this helps.

I think mmmdowning might have the answer. I checked with futaba and they do make a short crystal for this receiver.

Thanks for everyones help. Foamiesrfun, thanks for spending so much time last night. I appreciate it. This is a great site!!!!!!

Or the possiblility exixts that you got an AM Rx, or one on the wrong band.
35 mgh vs 72 mgh

Yep...be sure you got a negative shift receiver and the proper crystal. That seems like the most likely answer to your difficulties.
