What is the best / max current rate that I can set my fast charger to for charging a Electrifly 8 cell 9.6 volts 4/5SC 2000mAh NiMH. I currently set it at 1.0 A and it takes an hour or more.

At 1amp it will take 2+ hours to charge that pack.

You are very safe at 2amps (1c) and that is where I charge most NiMh cells. In a rush at the field I do 2c on most larger cells (like yours). That should charge them in 30 minutes.

If your charger supports and "auto" charge function you can try that and see if it will go faster at the first part of the charge, they typically ramp down after that.

Yep, I'd have no problem charging that pack at 2C. I'd probably keep it at 1C when I'm at home just to be easy on the cells.

Not to sound to stupid but what does a "C" stand for?

C = capacity

So if you have a 1000 mAh pack 1c (one times capacity) is 1000 mAh or 1 amp.

C is for "cookie"!!!

And yes C is for cookie as well.

But please don't eat your batteries they look good but taste funny.
