I wish to build a brushless outrunner motor. Haven't done this before. Need help on what kit to buy and who sells it. Any comments/suggestions would be welcome.:red:

If your main goal is to get some experience in building a brushless motor, it's hard to beat the $9.99 GoBrushless GBv kit (http://www.gobrushless.com/shop/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=prodshow&ref=GBv). The instructions are good, and it's a useful motor as well. I use one in a 9 oz. foamie.

If you are hoping to use your homemade motor for a specific plane, give us the details!

Well, it is and it ain't. The principal isn't too hard, wind wire around a little stator. The physical part is exacting and fussy. Takes some practice. Counting winds while trying to make it neat takes concentration.

I just finished my GBv from GoBrushless (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=878258). I think that may be a very good way to start. Great customer service. I had some question and issues and they were not only resolved but Dan went out of the way to help me.

I did try re-winding a shot TowerPro before that. That was frustrating and didn't work. Not all motors are wound ABCABCABC I learned.
I think it's better to make a go of an easier and simpler motor and use that as a base to expand out from. The GBV is just that cheap ($10) and easy. The wire alone is worth it.

It is pretty exciting to spark off your own first brushless.

It's actually a bit beyond cool. You learn a lot about motors. Once thing you rapidly come to learn is that the cheap Chinese motors, are cheap. Most of the windings on them are poor to miserable with junk wire. It's amazing they work for people as well as they do.
You also learn about trouble shooting, wire shorts, and get significantly more into the theory about KV and how/why it works. That's just to start.

I got interested by have a TowerPro break a winding out of the package, then another while just flying, then another.....Arggh.
Then I bought a hand wound motor from Dave North (timocharis) and realized there was a world of difference. I've bought several of his now and his review of the GBv motor (and a growing stockpile of shot motors) put me over the edge.

My first wind was ABC on a motor that should have been dLRK (you'll learn if you stay with it). This was wrong > didn't run. Back to school.....
So I got the GBv, wound it, and found the can was not well fixed on the shaft. Contacted Dan at Gobrushless, he had me send it back, got a new one promptly AND, he sent a new GBx motor kit for my 'trouble'. Pretty outstanding!. That's over the top customer service.
The GBv runs beautifully. I'm still admiring it. Need to put it in a plane. It's small so I don't currently have anything to put it in.

I know the 3 most important Keys to winding from when I was studying electronics are:
#1 neat, clean windings.
#2 keeping the Wire snug to the Stator.
#3 making sure you have the EXACT same Number of turns on all Stators.

P.S. I know that after I get into this hobby and spend $80.00+ for a Motor and it burns up, I'll be delving into Motor Winding ALLOT more...;-)

Hi All, just looking around here and waiting on my Daughters Telemaster to show up. I decided to take a look at some power options for it, and ran across this string. COOL, I used to build small brushed DC motors in school for a science fair project not to mention the old Lindberg kits that had you build your own 2-pole Motor. Way Cool!!!!

Anyway, for the reason I quoted you, take a look at my LaStick. I believe your motor will work very well on this airframe. Right now I have a E-Flite Park 180 Outrunner.

Here's a larger GoBrushless.com motor kit, a GBx double I built a couple of years ago. It's good for a bit over 100 watts. It's currently in a 20 oz. Cub with a 47" wingspan, using 3S lipo and a GWS 10x4.7 RS prop.
