I'm looking for some information on airfoils for 3D planes. As I understand, it all depends on the type of flying desired. The plan needs to transition easily into high alpha flight and hover easily, so an airfoil with moderate thickness and a somewhat sharp LE is best, right? Can anyone give some specific airfoil designations, ie NACA 00XX.

For elevator and rudder, what type of airfoil is typically used? Just a thin, symmetrical airfoil that looks about right, or is there more to it than that?

References to some literature or a good site with info would be great! Thanks

have you seen the Airfoilz profile planes. Like Yak 54.

Yes I have seen them...why?

thought it would be a good start.

Generally, thick airfoils and blunt leading edges will stall at a higher angle of attack than a thin airfoil or a sharp leading edge. A sharp leading edge will also cause the wing to "hunt" during level flight. I generally use something like an naca 0010.

How about empennage airfoils? Does it really matter? Is there a standard?
