Well except for the guy digging out his wedgie right at the beginning it was rather entertaining!:Q

What a tight field though for jets. Road right at the end of the Runway, corn 20 ft or so if that off the runway.

Makes for difficult landings under the best of circumstnaces.

Enjoyed the vid, thanks for sharing. Just goes to show even with big bucks in your plane you can still stink up the landings!:Q

Wow i loved that video with the Pipercub! Even with a clipped wing she still wanted to float around. Ahh man i love those gliders! Especially the ones with the semi gull wings. Pretty sweet man! That slope flying one, where the guy threw it over a cliff, that one had no motor? That was great! Can gliders fly without hills? Like long as you have a tiny motor that can pull it up there, can you fly without hills?

IFlyTailies
08-30-2008, 03:14 PM
yes, gliders can fly without hills=slope. You will then need thermals, which requires more skills to find these and use them to gain altitude

Sorry to hear that the lanch did not go well, just a suggestion, do you think that some skids, under the wing, where it bends, on both sides, will help to keep the wing from touching the ground, and prevent that from happening again, just my 2 cents worth, Take care, Chellie

I made a video of the Nitroplane Salto at our local slope. According to the pilot, the CG is 1/4" in front of the wing rod, spoilers are not effective for landing. This Salto flies great as long as you keep up the speed. Be easy on the elevator stick! This glider flew in 14-20mph wind.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXueAWYZk3A

On a separate note: My Aerofever Salto lost its left wing last weekend at another slope. I was just flying straight from left to right when the wing rod broke (I guess). I flew a nice knife edge for another 300 feet or so before I landed :(

Another 96" wingspan Salto (from Nitroplanes) flying at the slope. Minimal paint scheme is based on German airshow pilot Manfred Radius' full scale Salto. CG is 1/4" in front of the wing rod, which has been reinforced with a steel rod inside the carbon tube. Wind was around 15mph. At the end you will also see what is left after the landing of my LS-4:

It is unbelievable how much fun you can have on a low wind day trying to fly around a 16' pole! The Easyglider needed several repairs at the field. But CA and kicker will do it. It took several hits of the pole or crashes into the trees around before the pilot managed to fly around the pole.

Thanks... Yes, I have no problem feeling the sticks with my gloves. The 4m is a thermal plane anyway, so only little stick input is needed. But I also fly my aerobatic planes with gloves when it's cold.

Windrider Fox in 20-35mph Wind. This Fox has been modified: Covering is a mix of Ultracote and Monokote. There's zero wing flex other than in the middle where the two halves join. The carbon mods were mostly ribbon spars buried into the wings, the rear of the fuse, and on the trailing edges of all control surfaces. There's also a carbon rod buried in the fuse from nose to tail. All surfaces but the rudder were replaced with balsa tapered stock (stock was all EPP foam surfaces). All up weight is 28.7 ounces, which is about 13 ounces more than a stock built one. The builder added about 3 ounces to the nose to get it to balance.

This video features a fast and agile homebuilt slope glider in the beginning. The second half of the video features a Baudis Salto. After the first pilot had landed in the tree, the other pilot took over for another try. This Salto is a great slope glider. It is very fast and agile with no wing flex. Wind was 20-35mph. After the successful second launch, the first pilot took over again. Watch the "hard landing" in the end.

After many hours of editing, I have finally finished the 2010 SKSS Aerotow Event movie (trailer is below).

If you would like a copy, it is $15 shipped for US customers and $20 to Canada. If you live outside Northern America, please PM me your address so I can send you a shipping quote. Please PM me for payment info (Paypal, MO, check, cash). After buying this movie from me, you may make your own copies for your buddies. But I would kindly ask you to consider donating $5 to me for every copy you make. Again, I put a lot of time, effort, and resources into this movie.

Content:
- gliders from 2m to 7.2m wingspan
- vintage and modern composite gliders
- gas and electric tugs
- interviews with pilots presenting their models such as two SG-38's, SZD-16, Schweizer, Reiher, Nimbus, ASG-29, ASK-18, Duo Discus, and more
- full scale ASG-29
- runtime ca. 46 minutes
