Well the title says it all.

The victim is my E-Flite P38. I flew two batteries through it just this morning with AnglerHi. She was on top form. Untill....

76162 + 76161 =
76163

He was just running around being a kitten. It happened about 1 1/2 feet away. For about 30 seconds I was so mad I couldn't articulate a non curse word. After that, all I could do was laugh.

Here are some pics of my attempted repair. I used two skewers to act as a physical brace. I made a third hole but left it empty to allow for the glue to expand on the inside of the repair.
761637616476165
I have it sitting on top of that beer glass so that its own weight is keeping the booms pressed flat as the glue cures.

I sure hope it Flies as good as it used to!

What the HELL MAN!!!??? That's just CRAZY dude! That cat would have been dog food bro:(. I pride myself on being somewhat of an animal lover....but SOMETIMES.

I'm reall sorry to hear that John:<:! I'm glad you got a laugh out of it though. I think your many more years in the Army have allowed you alot more patience than me friend:p>. I think if I were in your shoes, the dogs would have gotten a new chew toy:D. I'm confident you'll get her back together and she'll fly just fine, if not better. Keep me posted man.

Yeah Mike at one point, you realize "you can't control what you can't control."

Don't get me wrong, I was plenty mad. The laugh wasn't from a "funny ha-ha" point of view. It was from a "funny -Good God I need to choke-throw somebody!!" frame of mind.

Once the gorilla glue expanded for about 20 minutes I took to the tape off. So now hopefully it will cure nice and strong.
It seems straight to the naked eye.

Yeah, tp12 you're right.

After 10 minutes or so I was more mad at myself than Scout (the feline destroyer).

The planes were wet from the dew at the park this morning. They were getting put up as soon as they dried off.

Glad you got her back together man. I'm sure she'll fly fine. I know it's not exactly the look you were going for, but you just have to roll with it sometimes...trust me, I KNOW:roll:.

Back on topic somewhat.

It didn't dry 100% straight, but I can hold her up by the horizontal stabilizer, so I think it should fly OK.
We'll find out tomorrow morning!!

Flight report to follow... :)

My cat has chomped several of my planes. Several wing tips have teeth marks. I keep the water spray bottle handy.
But...

The other day my dog, who loves chasing planes, finally caught one. Felt like choking him but I did encourage the behavior.

They are all part of the family so I can't stay mad them for very long and laugh about it later.

"Yeah Mike at one point, you realize "you can't control what you can't control.""

Let's just hope that never becomes your plane!

Sorry about your loss. I like the skewer trick, though on my friends SC, CA worked just fine w/o any type of brace

Every plane I own is thoroughly preflighted by the cat before it leaves the house. All air vents need a paw inside for some reason that's beyond me, If its big enough to fit two paws in all the better I guess. I don't have a clue what he looking for and a few times I got to the field only to find he unplugged all the wires from the RX. Theirs really never any damage to the planes but it makes me wonder about him when I catch him with a paw up to his shoulder inside one.

Spinning the prop is mandatory and so is leaving plenty of pawprints on each plane.

Thanks for the kind words guys. That's cool Kosh. This wasn't a case of curiosity, though. He was just playing tag with the dog and the plane got in the way of his escape path.

Well.... I'll put it like this; she still flies, but it's a lot more work than it used to be!:(

When I took off this morning it was in a paved parking lot. The plane rolled out fine and shot STRAIGHT UP!! by the time my thumb caught up with what I was seeing the P38 was in a vertical climb and VERY close to stalling. I mashed full down elevator and slowly nursed her back to level flight with decent air speed. After applying full down trim I immediately landed. I didn't want to spend any more time in the air than I had to. The landing was ugly and rough.:o
I centered the trim and made the appropriate sub trim adjustments.
The 2nd Flight was ROGrass and she flew better. It still took significant trim inputs to get her to fly level. Landing was better but a lot more work than last week.

It was my own poor repair skills that introduced the following: The entire rear horizontal stabilizer is angled up. One side is about a 16th ' lower than the other, so I had to compensate with aeleron trim.

Oh well, she still flies and that's what really counts!
(at least that's what I keep telling myself!:{)

A lot of times when I'm setting incidence angles I block the plane up on my bench.
Then I block the tail in place.
When everything measures OK, I add the glue.
All you need is some weight on the plane to hold it steady.... now where did that cat go?

When my Pom was little, I had one of my first Guillows conversions on the bench. Couldn't find the clear canopy and it didn't take long to come up with a theory. "You can't find it becuase it probably got taken upstairs and its all chewed up." Well it was.

On those toothpicks, they're more hassle that they're worth. I tried that once or twice and the alignment was lousy. I put a cf rod in after aligning and gluing those surfaces together.

Paul & Bill,
I think your advice is dead on the money. If I am ever in a similar repair situation I will definitely do it with your methods.

Well gang, I got her sorted out. Me and Angler Hi flew this morning and I was able to put two batteries through the Lightning.

I know that I have a problem that I'm covering up but not fixing, but without re-breaking the plane there's not much else I can do.

So, with my crooked tail and even crookeder (:p> hey I'm from the South, it's a word) elevator giving me very twitchy elevation controls, I programmed in 25% exponential into the elevator channel. It worked pretty good.

I had 2 spot on landings this morning with several touch and go's thrown in for good measure. Now that she flys like she used to, I can clean up those booms and make them look good again.

I kind of know how ya feel man. My cat took a chunk out of my Slow Stick's wing when i left it unattended for a while. Thankfully it wasn't bad. Alli had to do was put some packing tape over it to cover up the holes.

Although the 2nd time was my fault for leaving it out since i knew he'd do it. i was pissed cause i crashed my bip (didnt get it off of the ground. needed more runway so it rolled over into a tractor wheel ditch. ripped the bottom wing struts). Put it on the piano and went upstairs for a little bit.my mom yelled at me to come downstairs and to my 'surprise'. the cat took a chunk out of my rudder.

Hi John, I know how to break your cat from breaking your planes, show him a picture of your Planes, then Give him a Bath, Like this :D bath instructions from Larry 3215 :Q

http://www.wattflyer.com/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif How to clean the toilet
This is the last one for today.

How To Clean Your Toilet
1. Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the water in the bowl.

2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom.

3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close both lids.

3A)You may need to stand on the lid.

4. The cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises
that come from the toilet. Trust me, the cat is actually enjoying this.

5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a "power-wash" and rinse".

6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure that there are no people between the bathroom and the front door.

7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift both lids.

8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom, and run outside where he will dry himself off.

9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean.

Sincerely,

The Dog

My little buddy Jack just about drew his last breath this afternoon...

I had just finished washing my truck and was standing on the running board cleaning the windshield when he comes around the corner and sees me. He figures it would be cool to jump up on the hood and get up there with me!

He "almost" made it and then started to slide back down with all fours spread and claws fully extended truing to stop himself... scratch marks from the middle of the hood all the way down to the top of the fender well.

Good thing I had a good coat of wax on it... put a little more on it and they buffed right out, if not, the kids may have been holding a memorial service tonight instead of the traditional Christmas eve celebrations!

Yesterday afternoon ,Xmas day I watched a young cat ( still a kitten almost) looking up at an ornament on the tree. Then he leaps up 4' at the ornament and in slow motion, TIMBER!!! over the tree goes. That darned cat :D

I've had three different dogs, all three of which chewed on models whenever they got the chance. I think they were jealous of the attention the models got. Of the six cats, only one did anything to a model. He got on top of a cabinet and shoved a drafting board onto a balsa delta design I was building. The he just sat on top of the cabinet looking at me with an "Did I do that?" expression on his face. He ran away from home a couple days later.

Cats just are too reserved and self controlled to show the emotional instability dogs do.
