I just got a deal I couldnt refuse on the G3 today, my computer is about 2GHz but after installation a box came up and said my graphix card is not good enough so some things wont work, I played around with it a lot today and it seems like in some attitudes it gets very hard to see the plane it's like it pixelates:confused: pretty bad, do any of you computer guru types think it is worth getting a faster video card?

I'm not a guru but you can try by turning off some of the effects I had some trouble with mine running slow all I had to do was turn off the shadows. Then turn up your resolution.

sounds like an anti alias issue... i'm with mike though...what card?

you can purchase a card very cheap to get G3 running fine.

im assuming it is not a laptop?...

You can also download the photo real backdrops to replace the 3D fields. I know it sounds bad but I think it looks better and it runs a little faster.

Right, not a laptop, the cards they recommend on the box are like 200 bucks.

its at least $200 you are not going to spend on your helli due to a crash other that the inevitable. IE (Disorientation)

you are lucky. most find that they need a CPU Mo/Bo Ram and then a Vidio graphics processing unit GPU, however 2ghs is fine . provided your board is 333mhs or more. and the ram 500+mb.

in the end it is worth it and they are much cheeper now than before. (And faster.) and if you wait another year they will only get faster, the cheeper ones in a year will not be the whole hog. IE spend less than 150 and you may be disapointed.

Just think of the sore eyes you will have after hours and hours at night day hail rain snow and strong gusty days. Endless hours of refles training at your fingers.

dude the asus 7700 is a 5 year old card...time to get a new one.

pickup a new generation 6 gfx card from the pc shop for minimum around $60 and they can go up to $450 or so...

in fact you could even pick up a geforce 4 or 5 via ebay or as old stock for cheap.

if i were you i'd get the best i can for around the $100 mark...post what you come up with and i'll recommend one from a selection if you need help.

if you cant, check the anti alias settings on the card via screen properties.

chances are that as your card was designed for direct x 5 or 6, then it could be the extra features in dx9 that are causing problems.

i would bet that your card has ''only'' a max of 64mb onboard memory also...most cards these days come with 128mb and 256mb....so you will gain there also.

Let us know how you go mate.

Tim.

A guy at work has a geforce 5200 he is not using, so I'm gonna plug it in and see how it works.:)

Hi Fabricator

It is definitely your video card. G3 won't run on my laptop at all.
Try their site - they have a list of video cards that are supported.

The selection of 3D foamies is pretty bleak for G3. Has anyone found any good user uploads? The ones on the G3 site are only ok. Hovering is much easier to learn in the virtual world...

I run a Geforce 5700 and I still like to turn off some of the backgound scenary/images to just concentrate on not flying into the ground.

btw - There is no doubt the cost of the graphics card is totally negated by the thou$ands I have saved by being able to just hit the rest button. ;)

Fabricator:

G3 can be fussy. It runs poorly on my older laptop but great on my 1-year old Dell. On the laptop, the responses (inputs) are delayed to the point of not being realistic. If anyone just tried G3 on an older PC they might think it is poor software. A modern video card, with at least 128mb RAM, and a fast CPU will make this program much more useable. In the latter case it works really well.

make sure you turn off all the eye candy also if you are experiencing slow frame rates.

then if still slow turn off antialias and anisotropic filtering and set mipmap detail to low on your graphics card.

experiment with vsync also, this effectively synchronises the refresh rate of your card to the same as your screen. So set your screen up at the lowest rate with v sync off first. vsync on gives better image quality. vsync off gives higher frame rates, but can give greater fluctuations in frames.

Also turn down all windows native graphics settings such as transparent menus etc...also get rid of your desktop image if you have one.

yeah you can but why do you want to do that? you havent even tried yet. a Stick of tnt should do the trick it if you decide to go that way. lol

I turned off sound, particles (smoke) and shadows. Now the heli's respond quickly to the sticks. Before this, they just took off in any direction and would not respond before crashing. I also turned off the crash sound so my wife won't hear it in the next room. If I ever improve, I'll start turning things back on, except the smoke - through which I can't see. I use the Impala on the sim, but I'm all electric on my models.

Also, thanks to whoever for the tip to increase the resolution. I'll try that because I can't tell if the heli is flying backwards or my head's on backwards.
