I am experimenting with getting some more urban video footage from my plane. I think every video I've seen from a plane has been in a relatively remote area, or at least one with wide open spaces. So I think it might be interesting to trade park fields with parking lots. This video is the first attempt.

Found a park just north of downtown Dallas which included a baseball infield, with a football field doubling as the baseball outfield. Because it was surrounded by large trees, light poles, and midrise buildings, I kind of had to spiral out and then back in. Was a bit windy today too, so it made for rather stressful flying. Almost didn't make it, as I found taking off in soft infield dirt really slowed down my takeoff, not to mention the extra room I needed for the extra weight of the camera, and then I practically had to crash land it--but it worked.

I think the result is pretty interesting--lots of stuff to look at. I need to find a place that will host the video at a higher resoution than you-tube, as it compresses a lot of details out of the video.

Anyone else done any urban flying? Anybody want to give it a try with me? http://image.rcuniverse.com/forum/image/s45.gif

I pretty much shy away from flying anywhere that I can't afford a full throttle crash. A few months back I was shooting some property for someone and experienced a full throttle "death dive" from about 200 feet. When a fresh Tanic 3S 2150 pack is driving a PJS800 and 12 inch APC prop at full throttle straight down, it can do some damage. Lucky for me (and innocent bystanders), at that moment I happened to not be over a road, parking lot, or people. Smashed the plane and camera to smithereens.

Urban flying? Not for me any more.

I've done a lot of aerial photography but no video (for now) I heard that the Museum of Science wants me to do more demo flights!

 Sorry to hear that Steve, I know the feeling. :(

Was that Central you were flying by? A little hard to get the perspective of where in Dallas you were, but that's my guess, Northeast of downtown?
