Awesome. I got to sit in the cockpit of one if the Glorious Aircraft in 1983 while stationed at Eglin AFB in Florida. One of the many things I'll never forget from my Air Force career.

I believe the quoted text is from "Sled Driver" by Brian Shul. I'd own a copy if they weren't $400

that plane always gives me chills, and the ground speed check story always amazes me.

Yeah they got that just as I was shipping out of Eglin back in the 90's.

The one I got to sit in was while they were still operational back in 84. Made an emergency landing, throttle problems I think, and was at our base for a few days for repairs. Being the FD, we needed to "train" in case something happened and we needed to get the Aircrew out if something were to happen...

I agree, it was a neat movie. The Blackbird is one of my favorite planes. I was fortunate enough to see a U-2 in flight back in the early 60's at the same air show I got to see the B-70.

Someday I hope to see a static SR-71 since it is too late to see one in flight.
