Hi Danny,
Having owned/Own Both they are completely different. The E-flite is heavier than the Shocky Yak by an average of 5-6 oz and therefor takes a step up in motor and battery requirements. Both fly great and are loads of fun. The Ikarus is a good no wind flyer as at 7oz, it can get knocked around pretty quickly. The Eflite at 12-14 oz, handles wind better, but again fly's a bit heavier.
Here is my equipment:
Ikarus Shocky Yak:
Torque 34T Outrunner
Pheonix 10 ESC
2S 730 Thunderpower
8X3.8 APC E
Eflite Yak-54
Torque 26T
Eflite 20a ESC
3S 830 and 900 pack
9x3.8 APC

hey
i know that glow and gasoline engines are effected by the low density air of altitude by how could an electric motor be affected by this besides mabey the prop not making as much thrust
i have a ikarus yak 54
eflight 370 outrunner 1080
Castle creations phoenix 10
thunder power 3 cell 900mAh
this setup is extremely powerful but is slightly overweight but flies fine.

Danny,
You will simply need to swing a bigger prop. I would say a 11x3.8 (plenty of clearance for up to a 13" prop).

I estemated about 12.7 oz rtf weight I would like an inexpensive motor and esc the coule produce about 24oz of thrust Himax 2808-0950 is a combo for norh est sailplane products is 90.00 and has 24oz of thrust power
I use the Eflite 370 outrunner 1080kv...cc 10 controller....2S 750 lithiums...10X4.7 prop APC slowfly.......7.5 ounces....lots of power, and not a bad flier.....

I have the Shock Flyer Yak-54, my setup is...
Esskay 400XT motor
E-Flight 20 amp speed control
Fma M5 Rx
Hitec HS-55 servos
Kokam 900mah 3 cell and 640mah 3 cell
I never installed the wheel pants and I put 2 inch microlite wheels on it.
I fly outdoors and takeoffs from grass take about 3 feet. So far the wind has never stopped me from flying.

Hi,
I just received the Ikarus Yak 54 Shock flyer and I think the instructions leave a lot to be desired. On the T/E of the wing, there is an angular notch but I cannot see anything in the instructions showing the detail. I'm sure the CF rod goes there but how??
Thanks,
Larry D
