I finally finished the new heli my wife bought me for Christmas. I was out of town for a week and dying to build it. The weather stunk yesterday and today so I had plenty of quality time in the garage .:Q

Anyway, I finally finished the build tonight. I built it using the stock motor, an Align 75A esc, Dimension Engineering Sport BEC, Futaba S9650s on the Cyclic, a Spartan DS760 gyro with a Futaba S9257 on the tail, AR6100 receiver, using Outrage 6S 25C 2500mah packs. Setup like this it weighed in at 1570g. That is 290g lighter than my T-Rex 500. I can't wait to see how well this thing flies! Hopefully, I will get to maiden it in the next day or so.

I will report back on how well it flies in comparison to my other helis.

Here are a couple of pics of it alone and with my other helis. I added an additional pic with the canopy off so you can see the unique single belt drive system.

Looks like a nice sized ship. Right between that 'Rex 500 and 450 in size.

What's the rotor span?

It actually uses the same 425mm blades as the T-Rex 500. The power system is comperable in power to the 500 as well. The largest difference is the weight. My Protos is 270g lighter than my 500 using the same 6s 2500mah packs.

The Protos is also unique in is single belt drive design. If you have not seen pics of this heli check out the MSH website.

I am happy to report that my Protos had its maiden voyage on Saturday. It flew flawless! I used the first flight to get the gain on my gyro setup properly then flew it around a did a couple of loops, flips, and rolls.

For the second through sixth pack I pulled out the weights in the paddles and threw everything at it that I am capable of. This thing is super quick and I am very happy.:ws: I never even flew my T-Rex 500 today.

I took it out again on Sunday and flew 6 more packs through it. It flies very different than the T-Rex 500. I would compare the T-Rex to the larger 600. While I would compare the Protos more to the 450. It has the stability of the 500 in a hover but rolls and flips super fast like the 450.

All in all, I am very pleased with how it flies.

Now on to the next project. I am going to convert my 450 over to a 4S setup using a Scorpion HK-2221-10 3000kv motor. I have the motor and esc but still need to buy a couple of packs and a bec. One of my flying buddies has this setup and it is almost unbogable!
