I am thinking about returning to pattern flying and have just recently been bitten by the electric bug (after attending the Arizona Electric Festival.)

I am going to be outfitting the CA models Fantasy, 2meter 10.5 pound aircraft and being totally new to electric I was wondering if someone might sugest a good power plant set-up for this plane.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Guy.

Guy,
If you are going to compete or what better than glow power, here are the two options I personally would go with:
Outrunner:
Cyclon F3A, Castlecreations HV110, 10S2P (this is what I am putting in my pattern plane) (available from www.atlantahobby.com)

For an inrunner geared:
Hacker C50 15XL 6.7:1 and 10S2P and Hackermaster 90. (available from www.espritmodels.com or directly from www.hackerbrushless.com)

Guy, this will be a great project. Very nice model too, and your progress will make a great thread on this forum. Please keep us informed.

I think I will look at something like the Cyclon 160 F3A outrunner myself. I would expect this setup to be more quiet than the Hacker inrunner with gearbox. It should be like performing a schedule "dead stick" . . :D

I'd recommend [osting this question to the electric pattern forum on RCU. I'm sure you'll get a lot more opinions there.

From the January "Aviation Modeller International" (from MAP, England).

"Lazulite" from Probuild - who might be an UK based company, their location wasn't mentioned - assembled by Sam Wragg and flown in the British F3A Nats, 2005.

AXI 5330-18 Jeti Opto 75 ESC Kokam 6400 mA 10S2P pack into a 20 x 12 Engels CF prop. Allows for two rounds in competition before recharge needed.

They also mentioned that the motor, ESC and battery costs around 1200 UK pounds - say around $2100.00, but if you have to ask the price, stay in the spectators' enclosure ;)

Hope that helps

Dereck: that's just the start...you need chargers, balancers, and at least two more sets of lithiums. This whole setup IIRC comes to about $ 4300
cdn. dollars if you use TP 5300 mah cells. in 10S2P...just a little rich for this boy....but man does a 2Meter model fly super on this setup. Can you say BIIIIIIIIIG verticals??
