Great to see this forum thread!!!

Just finished a Spirit of Yesteryear's 55" "Dallaire Sportster" using a Robbe PowerPlus 410/12 brushed motor with a 1500 mah Lithium-Poly 3s1p battery.
Direct drive swinging a 8x4 folding prop. AUW is 18 ounces, wing loading at 6.7 ounces. 96 watts of power and estimated flight time of 15 minutes at half-power.

This model was started by a gas-jockey who did all the construction but never built an electric before and asked me to do the electric install.

Motor is mounted to a Sintra plastic firewall, 2 servos are Hitec Feather HS-55's, covering Ultralite transparent.

Plane has not maidened, can't wait to relive the past!!!

Looks great Donjiskra, I am guessing it may be way too much power though if you open it up full.
You should get much more than 15 minutes flight time too.
Keep us posted on how she flies - Mark

Hey Mark,
You are absolutely right and I don't plan on full power at all. It's just the way it worked out. 96 watts is way overkill for such a light plane.
I'm NOT interested in burning up the sky at all. I used what I had available on the bench.

The original battery Wally had was a 7cell 8.25 volt SR500 MAX (which actually weighs 1 ounce more than the 11.1 volt 1500 mah li-po). The watts would now be reduced to 41.

The SR MAX battery will provide 5 minutes at full power with a smaller 6.5 x 4 prop. This battery would keep it legal for 1/2A Texaco competition in case I would enter such an event.

The rules are:
½ A Electric Texaco
Airplanes are ½ A Texaco planes as defined by SAM. Motor is limited to ½ A and seven NiCd cells of no more than 600mah capacity. The goal is to achieve a total flight time of fifteen (15) minutes in each of two (2) rounds. The motor may be run at any time during the flight.

Here's an e-calc chart with the 500 SRMAX (as close as they have).
Thanks again for your concern,
Don

Everyone needs one of these in the hanger. Just to bring back orignal flight. This does look like a free flight. NICE job. K
